Love In the Material World
Regarding love affairs in the material world: they are only shadows or reflections of the real love with Krishna. If you love Krishna in any capacity, you shall never be frustrated because everything in Krishna is perfect, eternal, blissful, and full of knowledge.

Please accept my blessings. I have duly received your letter (undated), and noted the contents very gladly. My sincere blessings are for you for your nice prosecution of Krishna Consciousness. Whatever you are doing at the present moment is approved by me and I think on account of your becoming a sincere soul, Krishna is dictating from within and you are doing things so nicely. There are two gurus–one internal and the other external. The internal Guru is Krishna Himself seated in everyone’s heart, and the external Guru is the Spiritual Master. So a sincere devotee is helped both externally and internally. To the sincere devotee the internal Guru Krishna dictates, but the thing has to be conformed by the external Guru then it is all right. I am very glad that you don’t go out, and keep indoors engaging yourself in Krishna Consciousness activities.
Regarding love affairs in the material world: they are only shadows or reflections of the real love with Krishna. If you love Krishna in any capacity, you shall never be frustrated because everything in Krishna is perfect, eternal, blissful, and full of knowledge. So continue your present activities and chant your beads; whenever there is some difficulty consult Brahmananda or write to me; and Krishna will help you more and more on the path of perfection. Hare Krishna! We become attached to someone in the material world, and then we feel the agonizing pain of separation from them which is inevitable. So we should only ever become attached to Krishna.

i realise that this world is full of sufferings such as disease , old age , death , temporary happiness , no true love , no peace in the world etc.
but still , naturally, i feel attraction toward woman and wealth instead of Krishna.

That is the material disease, attraction to wealth and women, the cure is Krishna consciousness. So you just have to become Krishna conscious and you will be cured. And Prabhupada has described the science of Krishna consciousness in so many books. You need to read Prabhupada’s books and apply the things he teaches you as you read his books in your life. There is a process, it is a science but you have to follow the process.

You need some material qualification so you can get a job and support your family. So just do it, and at the same time chant at least 16 rounds of the Hare Krishna mantra every day, strictly follow the four regulative principles: no illicit sex, no meat eating, no gambling and no intoxication and read Srila Prabhupada’s books at least 1-2 hours a day. So get out of bed before 4:00 AM and spend the morning hours chanting Hare Krishna and reading Prabhupada’s books and during the day you can do your studies and in the evening again chant Hare Krishna and read Prabhupada’s books.
How I will get out of bed before 4 am ..it’s too tough because I sleep at 12 am after doing studying I am preparing for government exam .
Studying in day time I very sleepy .
My parents don’t like if I am chanting they say I am mad they say nothing you r going to et by doing hare Krishna and hare Rama..you must get job then your value is there or else it’s zero ..so I do chanting when they r not there or when I am outside and while Traveling for class.
I am suffering from health issue also which is not being resolved since 1 year even my parents are not cared about this,I used to go to hospital alone by travelling far. 😥 due migraine my eyes problem started I feel while reading textbook flashing or I am not able to focus on particular line of text …even doctor don’t understand what is happening ..I left everything on lord .
Yes. Of course. Material world is a difficult place. I can only tell you the way out, the way you can go back home back to Godhead, you have to work out how you can do it yourself in your life. It is not easy for anyone, to become Krishna conscious, as soon as you try maya will try to stop you. So you have to become determined. So chant Hare Krishna as much as you can and read Srila Prabhupada’s books as much as you can. Try to understand Krishna consciousness, try to understand the importance of it, and then, when you understand how important it is, become determined to do it.
I married a devotee but we are far from a temple. I seek guidance from a matiji to assist me with my spiritual development, can you help me?
Ask your husband to guide you. That is what the husband is for, to give protection and spiritual guidance to his wife. For the wife husband is guru.
If love for another entity especially opposite sex be because of Sri Krishna can it be shadow?
In the material world our relationships are not real because they are based only on the body. So you are not ‘in love’ with the person of the other sex you have in mind. We are lusting after their bodies, that’s all. We are thinking if our body and their body is combined that will be a nice situation. This is not love. It is bodily lust only.
You can not see that person, you can only see her external body. So this is a relationship based on skin only. And that skin is very temporary and always changing. A beautiful young girl will be a hangared old witch in a few years only. And you will not love that old witch. But she is the same person, only her body has changed. So you were not in love with the person, you were lusting after the beautiful young girls body.
So there is no love in the material world. Real love only exists between us and Krishna, the thing we accept as love in the material world is a perverted reflection only… As I tried to explain in the article.

True thing about Krishna is that when I was 9 yrs ago I fell in love with Krishna now 4 yrs later I am mad with love only with him he guides me every time and comes in my mother’s dreams n tells that I m his beloved devotee n what I have to correct in my charectar…now I realise I m mad with love my sister calls me insane but no prob… I WANT TO SEE HIM AND I DONOT KNOW IF ITS RIGHT OR WRONG BUT I WANT TO MARRY HIM..ÀM I THINKING RIGHT? Yes. It is all-right to think like this. Wanting to marry Krishna. That is how the gopis felt and they are recognized as the greatest devotees of Krishna. But there is a danger of taking it sentimentally and considering that Krishna is like an ordinary person in the material world. So you need to read Srila Prabhupada’s books to understand Krishna in more detail.

These are highly elevated topics and can not be conceived in the beginning.
In the beginning we have to follow the regulative principles [no illicit sex life, no meat eating, no gambling and no intoxication] and chant at least 16 rounds of the Hare Krishna mantra every day and read Srila Prabhupada’s books at least 1-2 hours a day. Otherwise we can have no actual idea of Krishna and no real spiritual life at all.
There are many different relationships with Krishna and as we advance in Krishna consciousness what our relationship with Krishna is will be revealed in due course of time.
We are not these material bodies, we are spirit souls. So we are not, as spirit souls, male or female. That is the body. You are in an man’s body this life, you can be in a woman’s body in your next life. So the male and female is the body, not the soul.
So you can not understand any of these things without first becoming Krishna conscious. Otherwise you are just mistakenly applying your materialistic concepts of so-called love in the material world to Krishna. But it is a totally different thing.
So first you have to become Krishna consciousness. When you understand Krishna then love for Krishna will naturally develop.
You have to find a bonafide spiritual master, surrender and serve. That is the process. Surrender and service. You can not jump up artificially and pretend to be loving Krishna without even knowing Krishna. You can only know Krishna by the mercy of a pure devotee of Krishna. So it is a process and if you want to come to the platform of love of Krishna you have to follow the process.

I have a few questions that I would be grateful if answered.
1 – What is marriage, if there is no love other than love for Krishna?
2 – It is the responsibility for Parents to bring up their children Krishna conscious, does this mean that inter-racial marriages are forbidden? ( I live in US ).
3- A man wanting to marry while being Krishna Conscious should look for what type of woman? ( As I live in US ), there are many non-Indian and non-veg woman here. What must the woman be like for marriage? ( Please explain in detail, such as what ideals the woman should have ).
4- Is dating permissible ( such as boyfriend and girlfriend ) with no sex enjoyment involved? What would be allowed, for instance, hugs, holding hands, kissing?

Hare Krsna Madhudvisa dasa. I have a sister who is three years younger than me. I once in a while touch her in a loving way on her head. And i think i should not agitate her be touching and all if she does not want. But i feel and felt so bad today. I was just going near her and she coursed me real bad. And plus in general i don’t feel any love from her. And this angers me a lot. She is not loving to me in any way. She treats me like garbage. I just feel like touching and she says that. And plus she does not talk to me. I feel so bad.
What can i do? Is there no love from anyone including my sister in this world.

You are seeing the material world as it is. Everyone comes here to the material world for his own personal benefit. Everyone is interested in their own pleasure only. Sometimes this selfish desire for pleasure is extended to family for example because a man is thinking if his family members are happy then he will also be happy. But the real point of this extended selfishness and concern for the happiness of the family is really not born out of a desire to see the family members happy. He wants to see the family members happy because he thinks if the family is happy he will be happy.
Everyone is trying to place themselves in the center of the world. So actually this selfish mentality of practically everyone here in the material world has created a hellish situation. No one really loves anyone else or cares about anyone else. The only time they act lovingly towards others there is some selfish motive involved. The ‘love’ is ultimately born out of a desire for personal sense gratification, not out of any real feeling for the other person at all.
This is the way of the material world. There is no actual love in the material world, only lust.
So it is very fortunate that you have come to see this. Now you need to simply concentrate on reestablishing your original eternal loving relationship with Krishna by chanting Hare Krishna and reading Srila Prabhupada’s books. This is real love. Between us and Krishna. That is the only relationship that we can have that the word love can be factually used to describe.

Hare Krsna Madhudvisa dasa prabhuji. Yest true. But at times i see people helping me out just out of goodness and kindness or really feels like it. And my parents want me to be successful in life by being able to support myself. And they say they don’t want anything else but they say if i am then they will only feel good. So is this pleasure also a type of selfishness. Doing good to me just to feel good that what they did worked on me.

Prabhuji about this you are right. But it is still very frustrating. And there is one thing i want to share in regards to doing devotional service. They are times when i need help of any sort in terms of devotional service either directly for devotional service or indirectly for things that support devotional service. But i don’t get it from people around me most of the times. And i feel so frustrated and angry. What to do? What is the solution to the problem of getting help for devotional service.
We don’t need any help for performing devotional service from anyone.
Krishna consciousness is so nice that there are no material impediments to practicing Krishna consciousness. So you do not need any help from anyone, except from Srila Prabhupada and Krishna of course, for practicing devotional service. If you think you need help then you are not yet Krishna consciousness. There are no material impediments, no matter what is our material condition we can continue with our Krishna consciousness undisturbed.

Yes. A wife can help her husband advance in spiritual life by being a very good devotee of Krishna herself. You can cook everything for Srila Prabhupada and Krishna and offer the bhoga to Krishna and feed your husband Krishna prasadam. He will like it very much because it is prasadam and also by honoring the prasadam he will make spiritual advancement.
The thing is we have to become devotees of Krishna ourselves and then Krishna who is in our hearts will guide us what to do.

You are a fool. There is no love in the material world. Only lust. Love only has any meaning in connection with Krishna.
Of course while we are in maya, in forgetfulness of our loving relationship with Krishna we become bewildered by the so-called love of the material world and distracted by that. But it is not real love, it is only a reflection of the original love that exists in the spiritual world between Krishna and His devotees. So love is real, it is there in the spiritual world in relationship with Krishna, but what we see here in the material world is only an perverted reflection, a shadow, of that real love. So you can understand this if you think of a mango tree reflected in a lake. In the reflection you can see the tree and the mangos. It looks like there are mangos in the reflection on the water. But really there are no mango in the reflection, they are in the tree. So if foolishly you accept the reflection as reaSlity and try to taste the mangoes reflected in the lake all your attempts will be futile. You will not be able to ever taste the mangoes in this way. You will just get wet…
Similarly we can never experience love in the material world. We see the reflection of love, we have the idea of love, basically we know what love is, but like you are experiencing, we can never actually experience that love in the material world. So the solution is to reestablish our eternal loving relationship with Krishna by chanting:

Then you will be able to experience real love and you will be able to forget this girl as she has already long ago forgotten you…

if in material world there is no love then how hus wife relation going on
It is all based on lust. There is the idea of love in the material world. Material world is a perverted reflection of the spiritual world. So in the spiritual world there is real love, so in this material world we have the perverted reflection of that real love.
So, just as you can look into a mirror and get an idea what your face looks like, from the material world’s perverted reflection of the real love from the spiritual world, we can get an idea of the feelings of love, etc. But it is superficial, it is not real, we can not experience the real thing.
Like in the reflection of the mirror you can see your face, and your girlfriend, she can also see your face in the mirror, but she can not experience your face actually in the mirror. Girlfriend might want to kiss your face, so she can try to kiss the reflection of your face in the mirror, but the experience she is looking for, it is not possible to experience it with the reflection of your face in the mirror. She can see you have a very nice face, beautiful lips, etc, but she can not actually experience your face in the reflection of your face in the mirror.
So that is exactly the situation of love in the material world, the real thing, the real experience, it is not here. The real love, that is in the spiritual world, all we have here is the idea, the reflection of that real love. The actual substance, love, it does not exist here in the material world.

it’s so wonderful for me to go through each and every comments here…i personally feel so happy to hear that everyone here is in a deep relation and has true love for Sri Krsna…i don’t say that i wasn’t attracted to anyone..i do,but i knew that it’s all because of Sri Krsna’s energy.So,i don’t get into material relationship…i love everyone around me,animals and plants…i personally feel that material love is not good,where it can cause someone to forget his/her duty to think of Sri Krsna all the time,forgets the time for devotional practice and it also pains your parent’s…whenever the taught of love comes into my mind,i go stand right before Sri Krsna and say”OH KANHA,do u think i would leave you and go???well,i don’t feel anyone here is so much attractive than you…so,please take my heart which beats for you only..by this,i feel really great….i know im very young to indulge in material love…im just 21 years old girl,studing in a institute and i do receive lots of love proposes from my place…but i can’t do anything for that…because i Love Krsna to the core of my heart…and i believe that He knows what is good for me and when to give me the best….i sincerely wish that Sri Krsna showers His love upon all the souls here…and please bless me that my love towards Sri Krsna increase more and more……and has no end for it….im happy to share my thoughts here..

I don’t understand my attraction to the personality of krishna..it’s really something different ( i love him a lot…)
i am confused.i am 23yrs of age.iam well groomed and have moral values and traditional/cultural sense.
yet at times i flet lonely.
as i was never friends with the males ..it sort of became hard.
so i started puuring out my love for everything to krsna and now i can say that iam in love with krishna..
he is the only maha-purusha who is my love, my life, my soul.
i bow down to my loving krishna.
now when ever i hang out with the boys i think of krishna and temptations goes out of the window.
no more temptation.
just pure love for krishna.
this material world is a miserable place.
so much pain, fake people, faces, anger, violence, hatred, destruction, pollution, crime, slaughterhouses, illicit sexual activities, and betrayal on every step.

I have come to a point in my life where I do not know where to turn to.
I am 19 now and have been in relationship with a young man for the past year. He is a devotee of Krishna but now says that he no longer feels close to Krishna any more. I have understanding of why he feels this way- we are trapped in material lust. My boyfriend is the one who opened my eyes to krishna conciousness, but now that our relationship is coming to an end I feel hurt, upset and lost.
Inside, I know I want to love Krishna and experience this happiness that devotees of Krishna experience. I want to be Krishna conscious but I am having trouble. I am non veg trying to give up meat, I stopped drinking and I do not smoke. Where do I start? can anyone please help me find my way in life so that I can take shelter of God.

The answer to all your worries is in surrender to Krishna. What Krishna is doing let him do. Always be his sincere servant. Being devoted to the Lord is no game. He examines everyone before extending His special mercy to them.
You can increase your boyfriend’s love for Krishna by talking to him about Krishna….about how beautifully he saved millions by holding Govardhan on his little finger( not even by using entire hand…thats how stylish he is!). Ask him to surrender to Krishna and tell him that Krishna will help him always.
Non-vegetarian food is a dead-body wrapped in spices. If you keep that in mind, you wont be able to consume it anymore. And to begin with, first try to read about Krishna’s life – how He was born, circumstances, His pastimes and mischeif atleast till he kills Kamsa. You can even find videos on the same. Try to know his earthly pastimes first. This will give u foundation and help you surrender to him, fix faith in him. Beware, He will examine ur faith multiple times…but never give up ur love for Him.
Then read about Prabhupad’s 4 regulative principles and try following them…they lead to Bhakti.Purchase a Photo of Krishna and Radharani and worship them. Chant His name attentively on neem mala to start with ( Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna Hare Hare)…atleast once a day. Worship can be simple offering of flower to him with a candle or a lamp and tulasi and see in Him ur best friend. :)Cook vegetarian food without onion,garlic and mushrooms and offer to lord by keeping tulasi on it…you can read on this issue later. Everything is his wish…even that Im writing to you and whatever u do afterwards. Hope u progress as His devotee.

whn i was 12 i fell in “atrraction” with a boy. I never talked him since i passed my twelth. He was my classmate. Suddenly he realized my atrraction for him. Though i love krishna but i m attracted towards him, even till this day. {I m sorry kannu, bt dont know y he atrracts me a lot}
