My new film: Giri Govardhana Bathes in the River Yamuna

As some of you know I have been living in Vrindavan for the last few months. Vrindavan is a holy city in India not far from New Delhi and quite close to the Taj Mahal in Agra.
Vrindavan is the place where Lord Krishna spent His childhood when He appeared on this planet 5,000 years ago. It is not an ordinary place. Here the only activity is really worshipping Krishna. That is why people come to Vrindavan, either to live here or to visit.
Therefore Vrindavan is a town full of Krishna temples and places for the pilgrims to stay. It is a rather unique and hard to describe place. So rather than trying to describe it to you I have made a film.
On the Ekadasi days, which happen twice a month, my friend Krsnadas das and I have been going on Vrindavan parikram. There is a path going all the way around the circumference of the Vrindavan town which is about 12 miles long and if one walks around this path he will circumnabulate the whole Vrindavan area which includes so many important Krishna temples. And this is a very auspicious thing to do. And it is particularly auspicious on the Ekadasi days.
So last Ekadasi Krsnadas and I decided to take a video camera with us on this little adventure and the result is this film: “Giri Govardhana Bathes in the River Yamuna.”
Krshnadas has an ashram here in Vrindavan and in his ashram he has a temple where he worships “Giri Govardhana.” There is a hill not far from Vrindavan called Govardhana. This is the mountain that Lord Krishna lifted up with the little finger of His left hand and used as an umbrella to protect all the residents of Vrindavan from the wrath of Lord Indra. Krishna said that this hill, Govardhana, is not differnet from Himself. So since that time devotees of Krishna have worshipped small rocks from the Govardhana hill as Govardhana silas.
So, to make a long story short, Giri Govardhana came with us on the Vrindavana parikrama and ended up being the star of the film.
It is not a very professional film, please forgive me for that. But I think it does somewhat capture the mood of Vrindavan and if you have been here before you can remember it and if you have not been here then you can have some idea what it is like…

Thank you very much for capturing the Vrindavan mood with you first film. It certainly brought me right back “home”.
I was also very happy seeing my good dear friend Krsnadas lead us on parikrama, which he has done hundreds (maybe thousands) of times by now. He has become a real first-class Braja-vasis and I take his dust from his feet onto my head.
I thought the flute playing sadhu was a bit long. Though the flute can remind us of Krsna, but again, many sadhus love the attention being in front of a camera. The ending of him playing was very appropriate.
Also, there could of been a little more pastime narrations since every step of Vraja is enriched with unlimited pastimes.
Once again, thank you very much for bringing my home as I forwarded the link to several devotee friends.

Hare Krsna, PAMHO. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. Just watched the entire film. I would say that your film rates as excellent. The audio is remarkably good. What is very effective is the long distant shots of you and the camera picking up the overall outward sounds, but at the same time, while seeing you off in the distance, still your conversation is clear and close up …although as I say, you are at good distance away from the camera. So I suppose you have two mics recording at the same time. Whatever formula you are using, the end result is very professional and makes watching the film all that more interesting.

What a beautiful video. As a aspiring devotee looking for initiation it has shown me that KC is interwoven into the fabric of everyday life. I liked Krishnadas’s comment “Krisnha is everything”, and “We are never alone”,We always Have Krishna. I loved looking at life in Vrindavan, the monkeys, peacocks, the sounds. Wish I could go there.

Tnanks for the video. It brought back memories of my visit to Vrindavan in September 2007. I spent about two hours on the outskirts of the town and also on a boat on the Yamuna. Beautiful, serene, and extremely inspirational. I will be returning to Vrindavan, as well as Mathura, Varanasi, Haridwar, and Rishikesh.

I may visit to Vrindavan again…..such a lholy place, lovely, beautiful. extremely inspirational and peaceful place. “Lord Krishna is my life & everthing”.

It is you Sir or Krishnadas who has shot the film?
Whatever it may be it is a beautiful First attempt.
following are my observations
1. The film could have been shorter as it has so many unnecessary shots of pig and donkeys and ordinary people with not an iota of bhakti on their face.
2. It depicts how government of India and local administration has kept such immensely holy place in a dire state. What to expect from demonical Congresswhich is about to destroy Ramsetu!
3.I personally feel only Bhaktas like you have got sole right to teach Krishna bhakti to even local Vrundavan people who just appear millions of years away from bhakti.
4. What a spiritual emotion you have! i would have thought twice before drinking the Yamuna river water on its periphery but you drank it with such a bhav that it brought me tears of bhav!
5. The way you were explaining the presence of Krishna in Govardhan stone was just out of this world.
6 Your attention never altered despite whatever was happening around you were firmly fixed in krishna consciousness. It was firmly embeded inside me.
7. Sadhu with a flute appears to be misfit, his flute irritating and takes off sattvikta from the film. Appears to be fake( I do not know , i felt so)

Thank you so much for sending me this video recorded in Vrindravan. Somehow I am only able to watch the video when Krishnadas Das is taking goverdhan Nath to parikrama and then I see the the bullock cart and the video ends. I am not sure why this happens. Can you help me on this.

Hare Krsna Madhuvisa, I tried to look the video, but the picture on the screen is totally unclear, I can’t see recognize any details, I hear the voices but the picture is totally distorted. I don’t know why.
I think you must either have a slow computer that is not powerful enough to decode the video which uses something called the H264 codec which requires a moderately powerful computer to play back or you do not have at least version 9 of the Adobe flash plugin for your web browser. You can update your flash plugin at http://www.adobe.com. Current version is V10.0 but V9.0 will also work.
