Prabhupada And Nehru’s Incarnation

The incident that we are going to recount took place in mid-sixties. It took place soon after Nehru’s death when Prabhupada was still alive. I was then working in an office in downtown Broadway in New York City, not too far from Brooklyn.

There at Brooklyn, in Henry Street, Prabhupada used to preach in a small house, which served, at the time, as some kind of a head-quarters of the Hare Krishna people. I used to go and attend their services, now and then, mostly after office and before returning to my apartment in Flushing, Queens.

Prabhupada, whenever he visited New York at the time, put up there and his sermons were attended in the evenings by a big crowd. Not only were there the usual chantings and eventual prasadam but there was a serious question and answer period. And the subjects varied from Varnashram Dharma to Reincarnation and many other similar topics. They were naturally of great interest to the local boys and girls, men and women of America but for us Hindus of India too, the question & answer period was of extreme interest and enlightenment. Those who have had the good fortune of hearing, first hand, Prabhupada’s sermons could easily imagine how charged the discussions were.

Nehru had died only a few weeks ago in India. Ashes from his funeral pyre had been strewn from airplanes, all over India. Every-where in India, the dead man’s eulogy was being sung and this was the man who was at the root of India’s unpreparedness when China attacked, the Kashmir imbroglio, the minority (or Mohammedan) problems in India and so on. It was amazing that many of the American disciples of Prabhupada were better informed of problems in India, generated by Nehru and his incompetence. However, the man had died only recently and out of a sense of propriety, no one spoke ill of Nehru in that congregation at the time.

Then a youngman asked Prabhupada a question on re-imcarnation. Was it true that most dead were reborn and passed through the cycle of life and death once again, except those few good men who attained nirvaana and were not born again but blended with Brahman or the Almighty? If so, could Prabhupada (who was considered to be a reincarnation of the sage Vyasa, the writer of the Mahabharatam) throw some light on the current status of Nehru. Did he obtain nirvaana or was he reborn; if so what kind of a body did he receive on his next birth?

The question was a loaded one, I thought. In fact, I had the misgiving that Prabhupada might refuse to answer. But then, I was wrong. I had not yet known Prabhupada so well. He was undaunted by any question and his reply came forth instantly. Quite clearly Prabhupada knew Nehru like the palm of his hand; it was us who knew so little of the man, thanks to all the well executed suppression of details of Nehru’s private and personal life by the GoI and the Indian media. For instance, even today, some half a century after Nehru and his family took over the reins of Indian government, we do not know who indeed was Indira’s father-in-law!

Prabhupada started his discourse. He said that Nehru was re-born almost immediately after his death, a thing that happens only to the most sinful people. He did not even have a short-lived taste of heaven before he was born again. What was worse, is that Nehru was born this time in the form of a dog. He was a dog in a small town of Sweden. His master had another dog before the dog-Nehru was acquired by him and so the dog-Nehru had to share the love of his master with another dog.

Prabhupada explained that to be born as a dog, after having been born as a Kashmiri Brahmin in India, is a big fall. It indicated that Nehru had led a vile life, a very vile life, during his existence as a man in India. Also, Nehru’s hatred for anything vaishnava did not make things any easier for him.

That Nehru was a meat-eater, specially beef-eater, a regular wine-drinker, made things even worse for him. On top of that, Nehru was (a fact which we did not know then and learnt later, much later, only after having read M.O. Mathai’s treatises on Nehru; Mathai should know for he was the Catholic private secretary for Nehru for a decade or so) a notorious womanizer. It was not only Mrs. Mountbatten that he slept with on a regular basis while our jawans were dying on battle fields in the north-east and in Kashmir; he used to sleep with each and every woman he could lay his hands on. Thus, he had left a chain of bastards one of whom had been delivered in a Catholic nunnery in Bangalore. In the mean time, his sidekick, one Krishna Menon, became the Minister of Defense. First thing he did was dismantle the Ichhapore Gun Factory and turned it into a coffee making machine factory. He was a communist and he loved the Chinese more than he loved Indians.

Prabhupada was quite discreet; we know now, for he did not divulge to us at the time that Nehru finally died of syphilis (exactly like the communist leader Lenin of Russia) and not a bullet wound on the battle front. Prabhupada, however, told us in detail all the harms Nehru did to the Hindus of India, all the insults that he had heaped on them during his reign.

Nehru used to brag of his non-Hindu upbringing. He used to say openly that he was brought up as a Mohammedan, educated as a westerner; it was only by accident that he was born a Hindu. It is now known that he was born in a house in the red-light district of Allahabad, where his father Motilal used to ply a brothel-keeper’s trade. No one wants to talk of this dark side of Nehru’s upbringing. On the other hand, it is said openly, wrongly of course, that he was born in the Anand Bhavan, which was not even owned by Moti Lal at the time Nehru was born.

However, the few little details that we learnt from Prabhupada opened our eyes and I returned home very depressed. I was even more depressed to think that our people in India were singing all kinds of fulsome obituaries for this man who was worse than a traitor to the Hindus, the overwhelming majority of India. What was wrong? The next few years showed us all that was wrong! His daughter, in order to create differences between the Hindus and the Sikhs, the fighting arm of the Hindus since generations, attacked the sacred temple at Hari-Mandir Sahib in Amritsar. She had to pay for the crime with her life and event-ually, as we have all seen, our gods saw to it that the dynasty was totally destroyed for the sins of Nehru, now a dog in Sweden! –

  1. I hope the current Prime Minister experiences a similar fate or even worse. He has manipulated the sentiments of Hindu individuals solely for his own personal image and to gain political power. He was entrusted with the responsibility of safeguarding the Dharmic population and dealing firmly with M, but instead, he has betrayed us and allowed our enemies to flourish. He has allocated massive amounts of funds for scholarships and welfare programs, benefiting the M. Our temples have been a cash cows for both the current and previous governments as the temples are heavily taxed and the revenue is given as doles to the muslims for their welfare meanwhile the hindu middle class are heavily burdened with taxes, while politicians from various parties exploit them for personal gain. We have been cajoled to beleive how politicians of one party were so corrupt and anti-hindu albeit no poltician ever has been arresyed for any corruption. Gullible hindus cannot see that no matter how much you gloriy a leader, he wont harm a fellow pollitician as they all are hands in glove for our suffering. Violence against Hindu women is at an all-time high, love jihad has been systematically injected in the society via mosques and their religious institutes but to no avail no one bother in the govt. There’s literally a parallel government running for these mlechhas as they are given separate personal law, marriage laws and others. Do we even qualify to call our Bharat bhoomi as truly ours when the largest occupier of this pious land is the waqf board. Moreover, we are constantly losing our land due to the relentless encroachment by the Muslim population. In such a dire situation, this egotistical leader only seeks to win the favor of a particular religious group at the expense of our lives. Illegal migrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar are infiltrating our country in vast numbers, and no significant action has been taken to address this grave issue, despite being in power for over nine years. Have hindu masses really gone senile to overlook all this or they just crowned a mlechha slave just for the sake of filling up the vacancy? Nehru and Congress were once reverred and celebrated so was the adharmic Gandhi, but their true intentions were revealed too late. History is repeating itself, and another partition seems imminent. These so-called “Hindu parties” and the “Hindu samarat” are, in fact, hands in glove with our enemies. The more I read Srila Prabhupada, cant help but realise how right he was when he said that this democracy only breeds deceitful and untrustworthy leaders. If Nehru, the wolf, had faced such a fate, I sincerely hope that Modi, most treacherous of all and a wolf in sheep’s skin, faces an even worse fate for he is not only a coward and impotent, but also a betrayer of our trust and hopes.

  2. K S SITARAMAN says:

As per scriptures, when a man does not follow the tenets and duties imposed on him to the T, he is born in a lower life form. Brahadharanya Upanishad talks of rebirth even as an insect or a worm based on one’s karma. A human birth is the highest form of birth which entails upon a person to do good to others, be pious, a believer in Almighty etc. As for Nehru, he did nothing of this sort, instead did everything oppose to these tenets. He was a womanizer, fond of beef and wine, highly egoistic, and his actions were detrimental to one section of society. As a ruler of the country his partiality to one section of population was against Rajdharma. No wonder, he was born as a dog. It is said that only humans and dogs become mentally disturbed and become mad.

  3. R Murty says:

His only punya is dog life in next birth. In subsequent birth, with little punya over, not sure where would he be actually tried for all papa.

  4. S Raghunatha Prabhu says:

Nehru’s dislike for Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose reveals his true colours.
India suffered enough due to his prime ministership

  5. Kalidas Kamath says:

    If true, served him Right.

  6. Mukesh Joshi says:

    Thanks for the information

  7. harpreet singh says:

Nehru was a whore lover and his father is also son of a bich.

  8. R.SURYANARAYANA BEGUR says:

I THINK while what is said of pandith jawaharlal nehru is largely true, i cannot understand what factors catapulted nehru into the political arena that too in a prime position. like it is said power corrupts ,absolute power absolutely…..something like this has happened.. i think it is imperative for us to understand that historical events will not take permission of anyone nor is it predictable. what has happened is prabably what we as a people asked for…..this could be a fatalistic idealogy…but true..but then passing uncharitable remarks on a just dead person is not acceptable either…sins have been committed by every individual on this planet, for which epiic heroes are no exception, say for instance dharmaraya the epitome of dharma personified, bheesma for instance did not rescue droupadi in an hour of need given the immpeccable reputation of bheeshma toward dharma.
all this and more is not amenable to reason. but i do not agree that INDIRA GHANDHI’S action on the golden temple was wrong…do you support sessetionism, do you want todivide india and disintegratwe it…? what BHINDRANWALE did in punjab is known to all,he desecrated a temple, stored arms in its pools , killed everyone who opposed him, looked down upon women and what not…? he was a threat to national integrity and sovereignity and wanted to put sikhs against the hindus….though this is all history can you imagine what would have happened if bhindranwale had succeded…? he would have butchered hindus like jews in nazi germany…there would have been a permanent rift between sikhs and hindus….sikhs after all a different version of hindus, you wanted this to happen,…? what would have been the likely benefit our neighbouring countries like pakisthan and china would have reaped from such a scenario in india…….?

    • jaisimha says:

I do not know what to say of Indira Gandhi’s ction whether wright or wrong. She doesn’thave any other option because Bhindranwale was hiding inside the temple and that is the only way he can be trapped.

Coming to Nehru’s reincarnation as dog I feel given Nehru’s status Bhagvan was merciful to award him a life in Sweden with comfort, but a dog is a dog though much far better than a street dog in India.

As HE is the cause of ALL causes and HE has causeless mercy Bhagvan might have been merciful as Nehru might have realized his sins at the time of his death. Hence he got a life of a dog in Sweden instead of street stray dog in India.

      • Kartik says:

Correct. What Indira did was absolutely needed at that time. Else we would have lost punjab to separatists. Whatever Srila Prabhupada said about nehru was 100% true.

  9. Narendra says:

Nehru was lucky to be born as a dog in Sweden. In Sweden, as in all Western countries, dogs have special foods (which are more expensive than normal food that the wealthy in India eat) nice warm houses, comfortable beds and the best spot on a couch in family rooms, they are taken out for a walk every day and when these dogs make a mess in parks, their owners pick it up. If Sri La is right, Nehru was transported to a heavenly living after death. What an irony! Couldn’t gods send him to be born as a pariah in India? That would have been an appropriate punishment. Here, in Sweden, he is rewarded to a better life which does not look like a punishment.

    • vivek says:

Even though Nehru was born as a dog ,it is not correct to say it is better than to live as an Indian beggar or something else.Since if he is dog , he will be involved in lot of bad karmas which will effect his future incarnations. It is better to become beggar in India than a dog.

      • jaisimha says:

as animals doesn’t generate any karma it has to go through the different life cycles of animals to finally get a man’s body a big time indeed

    • Aman says:

Hare Krishna! Dog’s body itself is a great misery. If you think Dog life in Sweden is heavenly then you may get a dog’s body in next life. Do not waste your human life thinking like this.

  10. Dharmendra Sharma says:

    Hare Krsna!

Please accept my humble obiences. All Glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Prabhupada was an renounce Sanyasi and whatever he had spoke in general and even his various lecture is true and practical, that is why whole world following Iskcon.

  12. Sonic1 says:

Interesting but FYI to be a dog in Sweden is pretty lavish lifestyle. I used to live in Sweden and the way dogs are treated there is pretty good when comparing to other parts of the world where such animals are treated badly.

Also I would like to know how do we know that Nehru ended up in Sweden as a dog?

    • jaisimha says:

It (Nehru born as dog) was said by Acharya Prabhupada and you have to believe whatever is said by an Acharya. We, the ordinary mortals have no chance of knowing as we have no power whatsoever. I believe because it was said by an Acharya.

Let the gurus and Vaishnavas forgive me if I have committed any offense in saying like this.

      • sridhara says:

Yes whatever Prabhupada says may have to be believed. My question here is did he really say so. It is not appropriate to trust everything written in the name of Prabhupada. .

        • Prabhupada said one of his godbrothers has said this and he does not really know. So Prabhupada is not saying this is true for sure. But it might be true. It is just an example to explain the process of reincarnation. But it is not sure and Prabhupada did not say this was absolutely certain. It is an example to explain reincarnation, that’s all. May be true, also may not be true.

          • sridhara says:

Sorry to differ again. I am keen to know if Prabhupada spoke about Nehru & Dog. Is this handy work of the writer. As the author has not come out in support of his writing I tend to believe he simply bluffed it and tarnished Prabhupada along with Nehru. The author is careful not to publish his name. See the readers comments. Trusting the words of author some true ISKCON followers have vilified Nehru.
I denounce this approach of some pseudo ISKON devotee exploiting this site.

          • I already explained this comment from Srila Prabhupada. “One astrologer in India has said that Jawaharlal Nehru is now a dog in the house of a gentleman in Sweden.” They are Prabhupada’s exact words. So it is ‘one astrologer in India’ who said this. And Prabhupada said it may be true but he is not saying for sure it is true. ‘One astrologer in India has said that Jawaharlal Nehru is now a dog in the house of a gentleman in Sweden…’

You can search for Nehru for yourself at PrabhupadaBooks.com

He was a politician, an athiest, not a devotee:

Prabhupāda: Yes. Nehru, yes. Nehru was such a rascal that he came… Ramakrishna Mission has a big hospital in Vṛndāvana. So on the opening day he came from Delhi by helicopter. He stayed there the whole day. He came in the morning, and the function took place in the evening. Or in daytime. He left the same day. But he did not visit a single temple. You see? Such an atheist he was.

At least Jawaharlal Nehru began like that, “Anything Indian is bad. Everything London-made is good.” That was his philosophy. And if one European would go to see him, immediately admission. And if an Indian goes to see him, three days he has to wait. So Jawaharlal made this impression, that “Everything Indian is bad, and anything made in London…” Because he was made in London. He was educated in London.

  13. sridhara says:

Hare krishna hare krishna hrishna krishna krishna hare hare.
Is this article by Sri Krishna devotees! If you want to spread hate why join ISKON? The writer, concealing his real identity, wrote whatever he wanted on Nehru, under a pseudo name Truth-Detector. What is the basis? Just Prabhupada made one statement. Firstly, can anyone confirm if Prabhupada really said so on Nehru.

    Om santi.

    • Yes, Prabhupada really said this that one of his godbrothers said Nerhu became a dog in Sweden. It is just an illustration to show how useless these so-called big men are in this world. There is no value in becoming a big man in the material world. What is the point of it if you end up as a dog in Sweden in your next life. Better surrender to Krishna, chant Hare Krishna, and go back home back to Godhead at the end of this life.

  14. Archana says:

    Hare Krishna,

In order to remove anxiety, unnecessary pressure of success and failures in material world,competition,jealousy..we all have only one mantra….chant

“Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Ram Hare Ram Ram Ram Hare Hare”

    Hari Bol

    Live Life Happily

    Archana

    • If that is the true fact then when I chant Hare Krishna My intrest in other material objects increases and therefore with great difficulty I am able to taste the nector of Krishna Conscioussness. What is the reason behind this?

      • I am not sure exactly what you are replying to. But it is not a fact that when you chant Hare Krishna your interest in material objects increases… So I don’t understand what you are saying here…. It can be very difficult to chant Hare Krishna because we are in maya. When we are in maya we have no taste for chanting Hare Krishna. But the only way to get out of maya is chanting Hare Krishna. So we have to keep chanting Hare Krishna even if it is painful.

The example is a man with jaundice. If one has this disease he looses his taste for sweet things. Sweet things taste bitter to him. So he does not like to eat sweet things. But for a man with jaundice the cure is to eat the sweet things. But he does not like the sweet taste when he has this disease. The sweet things are sweet but they taste bitter to him because of the jaundice disease.

Chanting Hare Krishna when we are in maya is just like that. Maya is the disease that takes away our taste for Krishna consciousness. So when we are in maya Krishna consciousness seems to be bitter or nasty to us. But actually Krishna consciousness is very sweet always. It is just because we have the disease of maya we can not taste the sweetness. But the cure is chanting Hare Krishna. So no matter how bitter it is. Keep chanting Hare Krishna…

  15. Krishna says:

    Hi Jaisimha
One more comment i wanted to add. You mentioned

    >>bakthi means it should be like an oil pouring without a break ie chanting >>mahamantram continously is not possible (except a few, is there one exists?)

The CHanting process is to increase our Bhakti and to surrender.
ISKCON follows SriCaitanayMahaPrabhu teachings like I said.
The surrendering process has many actions.
Falling on Guruji feet like you said.
The whole idea is to bring us to a humble state.
    Chanting helps in that process.
So its not that HareKrishna Devotees only chant chant chant.
    They do many things
    Chanting
Cooking food with Krishna Consciousness for Temple and Devotees and others
    Service in Temple
Preaching and spreading the name of Krishna like preaching done bye
    SriRamanujar.
After him most people in SriRamanujar did not preach to others.
They kept it back with Brahmins Iyengar.
So that defeated the purpose of SriRamanujar.
He wanted people to be VinshnuBhaktas not based on birth but based on
    HIS teachings.
Even contributing my results of my job is a surrendering process.
So Krishna Consciousness means having the surrendering process in every action of life. So that Krishna is never forgotten.
The Chanting process in HareKrishna is just one step.
Some can just attain by Chanting
e.g. SriHariDasThakur who is Nama Acharya.
But in general we have to take many actions which all lead us to always thinking about Krishna.
Even having family and raising Children in Krishna Consciousness is a surrendring process. Since we are keeping Krishna in center of the Grahasthashram. Here you can say Krishna or Sri Narayana.
So lets not debate the name but the idea is what I wanted to say.
    Thank you for reading
    HareKrishna

  16. Krishna says:

    Hi Jaisimha
It looks like you are closely following Sri Velukudi Krishnan and got lots of information from there. Since you mentioned you do not know much about ISKCON I think you should not come to any bad conclusions about that.

Also like followers of Iyengar Sampradhaya in South India there are also differnet levels of followers in ISKCON.
Some advanced and some just heard this and that and consider themselves ISKCON members. Since you said in your commment
” I do not say anything about ISKCON but I do not know why its members are vague about “Saranagathi”

You have to talk to advanced ISKCON followers.
ISKCON is an institution. Like UCLA or something. WHat it teaches is not just within ISKCON. It follows SRI Caitanya from Gaudiya Math.
Like science in UCLA is non-differnt from another Univeristy you need to understand philosophy taught in ISKCON is not much different from true philosophy taught by Sri CAaitanya infact non-different since the Parampara system is followed.

Whether people in ISKCON seriously know or not its different. I said there are different levels of devotees. SOme very knowledgeable and some not.

    Regarding Saranagati:
    Sarangati means to surrender.
Surrendering process is easier by devotional service.
Devotiaonal service includes chanting / having SriKrishna Prasadham
    etc.
All this is mentioned by SriRupaGoswami who lived around the time of SriMeeraBai and who was SriMeeraBai’s guru in SriVrindaban.
ITs in a book called Sri BhaktiRasambridha Sindu.

So Saranagati is indeeed nothing but surrender and ISKCON devotees
do that by doing devotional service or Bhakti Yoga.
In Srimad Bhagawat Gita Krishna mentions yes in Kali Yuga everything is difficult and so take the easy process of
Nama Sankirtana and that is embedded in Devotional service.
When you do NamaSankritan (like in ISKCON we chant many rounds on Japa mala the HareKrishnaMahaMantra) then we automatically surrender oourself which is Saranagati.
The word itself is Tamil and Sanskrit. To surrender to GOD.
    HareKrishna
Infact SriVelukudi Krishnan has one lecture in USA on
Namasankirtan. Its in english. You an google. I remember hearing it a while back.
He talks abotu NamaSankirtan how it is both the solution to remove sin and also the destination itself.
When Ajamila first chantted SriNaraynaa it just removed the sins and he started realizing. The SriVishnu messengers and SriYamaDuttas were debating. During that time he was chanting more and realizing more.
SO first the sins go aways then the chanting itself delivered him.
That is something I got from SriVelukudi Krishnan lecture about NamaSankirtan.
He mentioend how many people mistook Ajamil story that as soon as the chanted he was delivered. First he got sins removedd. Then more chanting delivered him.
Chanting in mode of un-sinful thoughts.
We should not chant and think that with power of chanting we can do more sins.
That will remove chanting from our actions.
Remember that even Chanting is a tasted given by GOD or Guruji.
Anytime we lose that taste to Chant means we have to be very careful to force back chanting so that we get forgiveness and do more service to GOD.
So Saranagati and Devotional service and NamaSankirtan and very closely connected though words used in different times.
    Krishna

    • Ronnie says:

      Hi Krishna,

I am quoting your words which you have mentioned above.
” In Srimad Bhagawat Gita Krishna mentions yes in Kali Yuga everything is difficult and so take the easy process of Nama Sankirtana and that is embedded in Devotional service.”

Doesn’t this mean that people like you have chosen this way of chanting cause thats according to you and your lineage of gurus is an easier way to get close to God,so it means that they all were afraid of hard work. 🙂

      • No. In Kali-yuga the other ways are not possible.

It is not so much that Krishna consciousness is the easy way, it is the only practical method for making spiritual advancement in Kali-yuga.

The other 3 methods are meditational yoga (we don’t live long enough or have the required concentration or state of mind to practice that now), then there is the practice of offering Vedic sacrifices (this requires qualified Brahmanas and nos we can not find any qualified brahmanas.) Also there was Deity worship but now you can not get the required ingredients or find the qualified priests. So that only leaves devotional service. There is nO other Way in Kali-yuga.

You are quite true and I personally find your writings substantial… And I feel that it is a genuine expression of Srila Prabhupadas vision..
          Hari Bol ! AGTSP !

          Your Servant,
          Manash De

    • I beg your pardon. Will you please mention the sloka of Srimad Bhagvat Gita in which Sri Krishna says about Naam Sankirtana in Kali Yuga. Just for knowledge please.

  17. jaisimha says:

    suparna,

You started off as hello without mentioning any name but I realize you answered my comment.

it is also said in bhagavad gita that in kali yuga it is not possible to attain Moksha by the methods prescribed which is possible for other yugas.
Karma yoga, jnana yoga and bakthi yoga.

Moksha through long meditation for years together not possible in kali yuga, neither is it possible to do bakthi, bakthi means it should be like an oil pouring without a break ie chanting mahamantram continously is not possible (except a few, is there one exists?)

The only way possible is “Saranagathi” and this is in bhagavad gita. I do not know what is said in ISKCON about this but its members seem to have no idea about it. I do not say anything about ISKCON but I do not know why its members are vague about “Saranagathi”

It is said by God in bhagavad Gita “Abandon all varieties of religion and surrender unto me.. ” ie “Saranagathi”. By Saranagathi it is not that falling at the feet of the Lord in the Temple.

It is actually shedding the “Ego” and realizing that it is not possible for me to do Bakthi (chanting as is believed) and surrendering at the feet of the Acharya as appointed by Ramanujacharya (Mind you Prabhupada mentions time and again the names of Ramanujacharya, Yamaunacharya…)

Ramanujacharya appointed 74 Simhahasanapadhis through which one can follow the instructions prescribed by him.

God Vishnu is residing in Temples (108 totally, 2 not in this world) called as Archa form. out of which 84 in tamilnadu 11 in kerala 2 in Andhra and the rest in north india.

  18. suparna says:

hello…i like to read what yu write…i hail from assam…and i am a vaishnavite..vaishnavism was propagated in assam by sri sri sankardev. when yu say that moksha can be only attained at so and so places of the earth, you are oh so wrong…a person gets mukti from this material wotld when he is enlightened, irrespective of the place he is born in. to pray, you dont necessarily have to go to a great temple..you can do it at your own home, chanting Shri Krishna’s name, by surrendering ourselves completely to Lord Shri Krishna. Lord Krishna says in Bhagavad Gita that any soul can attain enlightenment and gain mukti or moksha by chanting his name..by willing their minds constantly towards him…chanting his name all throughout the day with a pure mind is key…NOT THE PLACE YOU ARE IN…the power of chanting God’s name is illustrated by the Ajamila story.(kindly google for it) In Kali yug, chanting Hari’s name is akin to amrit. I am only 22 and i may not have the maturity of your years. But its a fact and God’s divine truth that to gain mukti, you dont have to go to any particular place of the earth. you can do it at home. i love Lord Krishna. Krishna Ram Krishna Ram Krishna Ram.

How many births a soul in a dog in particular and animals in general has to take to get to Human body?

I heard animals unlike humans doesn’t have karma for its actions. That is if a dog bites a man it doesn’t generate a bad karma for it.

    Is that true?

    • Hello Jaisimha

Karma is complex thing and one can not simply say in how many births a dog will get a human body. There are three animals that there next birth is human. That is Lion, Monkey and Cow. A lion is in the mode of passion, monkey is in the mode of ignorance and cow is in the mode of goodness. So the living entities evolve through their different animal bodies until they reach one of these three species and then their next birth will be human.

Of course if the dog gets to eat Krishna prasadam then human birth in the next life is possible.

A soul trapped in an animal’s body does not have the same degree of free will that a soul in a human’s body has. Animals work to fulfill the needs of eating, sleeping, mating and defending. So if the dog bites he is defending and because he is in a dog’s body nature is forcing him to act like that. He does not get bad karma for it. But it is all connected to the karma he has generated when he was in the human form of life.

But a human being has a choice. He has limited independence. And with that independence comes responsibility. If we use our independence correctly we simply serve Krishna and do not generate any karma, if we act piously we generate good karma and if we act sinfully we generate bad karma.

It is in the human form of life only that we generate the karma, and lots of it, which we have to work off in many animal bodies.

Chant Hare Krishna and be happy!

THe story of sage Jada Bharathar was a big one.

What is not possible in the internet age.

You may want to type in Jada Bharatha(r) in Google Search Engine.
There Bang you get list of sites (14000 it says) Choose and read the best one. Its upto you.

  21. The Explanation is perfect one gets the body one thinks or in that state of consciousness at the time of birth. According to the verse in BhagavadGita
by Vishnu “Whatever one’s state of mind is at the time of Death will get the body without doubt”

Nehru lived the life like a Dog and so was in such a state of mind at the tme of his Death and according to the law of Karma he could not think otherwise.
This state of mind is created by God accordingly to his actions of the present birth.

No body can escape this material world. Some may claim by not commiting sins one can escape but good or bad sins both are sins and to enjoy (good sin) or suffer one has to take births.

Then how can one get “MOKSHA”?
I do not how many people know this truth but there is only one person who can give it and his name was and is Ramanujar.
Just like to attain spiritual consciousness one has to go to India and to attain Moksha one has to go to one part of India, and if anybody is interested can go that part to get it. You can email me also. I will tell the place.

I do not know how many people know that the word Divyadesam and I do not know how many people really know the meaning of Divyadesam.

There are 105 Divyadesams in India and one in Nepal.

I do not know how many people know that these Divyadesams were built after the hymns were sung in praise of the lord Vishnu.

I do not know how many people know these hymns were sung in what language
    But I know.

I do not know how many people know that these Hymns were sung by Tamil Aazhvaars.

I do not know how many people know that all these Aazvaars were born in Tamilnadu.

I do not know how many people know that these Aazhvaars are the Greatest of personalities.

I do not know how many people know that Chennai has the unique distinction of being the only Metropolitan City having a Divyadesam Temple.

I do not know how many people know that in Chennai one Aazhvaar was born (no, no seen) and he was actually found in the well. That well is still preserved in Mylapore in Chennai.

I do not know how many people know that there are 4000 Divyapirabandhams written in Tamil otherwise called as Paasurams.

I do not know how many people know the importance of Paasurams and its effect.

I do not know how many people know that out of these 106 Divyadesams in planet Earth 84 are in Tamilnadu.

I do not know how many people know that ONLY 11 are in North India and one in Nepal. The important point here is these Divyadesam temples in North India and one in Nepal were ALSO built after the Hymns were sung in Tamil by the Aazhvaars

If anybody in doubt consult and verify with a qualified Guru

    Thanks,

One more thing The Theory postulated by, should I say theory, or research was done by a man called, Alfred Wagener and he coined the term “Continental Drift” I recently heard a Guruji’s daily upadhesa in TV that India once was in south pole near where the present day Australia is about some 90 Million Years Ago. And it came to the present position some 35 Million Years Ago.

If anyone has any doubt about the above infos then one can approach Any Qualified Guru anywhere in India instead of arguing with me.

If anybody are in disagreement with me then prove me wrong with valid proof after discussion with the Guru of course.

I find it hard to believe that just because you think of a certain animal at the time of death that you will assume the body of that animal upon your next life. How can a sage who has been virtious throughout his whole life expect to reincarnate into a lower form of life despite his ascetic merit that he has earned? Just because you mentioned one line about the incident of the sage does not make it proof, what was this in context of? What i mean is what is the overall picture that lead the sage to commence life in the body of a deer (assuming it happened)? SO upon death would thinking about God make us God?

      • Manash De says:

Your way of judgement is not correct Muski…..
        It is a practical thing.
Say if we try to become an expert swimmer, we always associate with the swimmers and every moment we think of swimming… Its our nature , whatever we are attached to, we usually think that.. repeatedly, again and again. and consequently the result is that we become what we think of…
This is a very gross example..
But Bhagwad Gita is the solid proof of this case and it is clearly mentioned in Bhagwad Gita.
Scriptures are beyond our sense perception and sometimes difficult to understand.. but if we sincerely try to surrender to the Scriptures, then truth automatically reveals itself…
        Think of it..

My dear Prabhu. With all due respect to your knowledge of history, my humble suggestion is that you actually practice what these great personalities taught. And I am sure they were not overly bothered about being a Tamil or otherwise. This is a spiritual, not a political forum. Unless, off course you want to reincarnate birth after birth as a “pious” and bigoted Tamilian. Seriously Prabhu, please read the Bhagavad Gita. You are the soul, not that body “South Indian” or otherwise. Hope it meets you well.

  23. Muski27 says:

While I am not a particular fan of Nehru , I wanted to know that given he has reincarnated as a Dog in sweden which was decades ago and by now that dog is probably dead and gone, what has happened to his soul? Plus when people are reincarnated as Animals do they even realise as to why they have obtained that kind of status. Does the dog posses the cognitive ability to realise as to what he did in his past life to obtain the life of a dog in the first place?

There are humans in this planet that live far worse off than dogs. I have dogs at home as pets and I care for them with all my heart and treat them like they are family or my own kids or younger siblings so in my view those dogs would not be suffering at all. I think true punishment is when the perpetrator realises that he is indeed being punished for his sins or crimes although the definition of Sin is very ambigious. For example Idolatry is a sin in Islam and Christianity while meat consumption is a sin in Buddhism, Jainism and Hinduism.

Please forgive me for defining what I think punishment should be when I am in no place perfect at all to define what constitutes punishment. Infact I as a human being try my best to be good and good to others but it is frustrating to be around people who are bad influences, but I guess that could be intepreted as a test to rise above all that and do the right thing.

    • Hare Krishna Muski

Thank you for the thoughtful questions.

The dog that Nehru incarnated as is surely dead and gone by now, but the soul of Nehru will never die. The soul is eternal. It was in the body of Nehru and then, because the soul did not properly use the body of Nehru to become free from attachments to the material world was degraded into the body of a dog.

In one sense you are right. A dog in Sweden would probably have lead a very pampered life and Nehru in the dog’s body probably felt quite happy a lot of the time. But the problem is he is still in a material body and the real suffering in a material body is birth, old age, disease and death. So he did not escape from these sufferings, there are also three other types of sufferings that every living entity who has a material body has to suffer. That is miseries coming from the mind, miseries coming from the acts of other living entities and miseries caused by the demigods who control the world around us. So as a dog Nehru would also have to suffer these three types of miseries.

But the worst thing about going from a human body to a dog’s body is that in a dog’s body one can not think about the subtle things a human can think of. Dogs have only four motivations: eating, sleeping, mating and defending. They have no ability to ponder the bigger questions of life like, “Why am I here?” “What is the purpose of life?” and “How can I get out of the material world?”

So it is a a great problem to loose the human form of life. It means, at least for some time, our spiritual advancement is interrupted.

You have a little bit misunderstood. It is not exactly punishment which is the reason Nehru was put in the body of a dog. Nehru developed the consciousness of a dog in this life so at the time of death he was thinking like a dog, therefore his next body was a dog’s body. That is the most suitable body for him and he may feel quite “happy” in a dog’s body.

There is on story of King Indra, the king of heaven who was cursed to become a pig on this earth planet. So after some time Narada Muni came down to the earth and informed Indra in the body of the pig that he had been forgiven and now he could return to his position as the King of Heaven. But Indra, in the pig’s body, did not want to go to heaven. He said, “I am very happy here. I have my wife and my family of piglets, and I like eating all this stool…”

So in whatever type of body we are put in the material world we get attached to it and we “like” it and don’t want to leave it.

But attachment for anything in the material world is foolish for it continues the cycle of birth and death. There is actually no happiness in the material world. Everything is suffering ultimately. IT is painful to be born, to be forced to get old, to get sick and to die. And that is what we do in the material world life after life…

You say that as a human being you try to be good and to be good to others but that it is frustrating to be around people who are bad influences. Somehow we need to associate with people who will be a good influence on us. Association is very powerful. So we can associate with Srila Prabhuapda by reading his books and by hearing his audio recordings. I suggest you try doing this on a regular daily basis and that will protect you from the bad influences.

  24. Incognito says:

I have not come across the word ‘Hindu’ in our scriptures.
As I understand, that word was used by Persians to refer to the people living beside the river Indus.
So is ‘Hinduism’ not defined in any of our scriptures. My guess is that ‘Hinduism’ was coined by some Britisher.

By accepting to label ourselves as Hindu we begin to travel in paths untrodden by our ancestors- the sages who travelled this earth before us- and thus break away from our anscestors and make of ourselves orphans.

When we accept for ourselves a label that somebody else has given us, then we have to inevitably accept the definition they give us. And the definition they have chosen for us is definitely to suit them and in no way complementary to us. In their definition Sati, Child marriages, Caste oppression, bigotry, blind beliefs, superstitions, gender inequality, erotic sex, etc., are the customs that defines this ‘religion’ they call ‘Hinduism’.

These customs, I do not find in our scriptures. What I find in our scriptures is everything opposite of what they have defined.

That being so, are we not doing a great disservice to ourself and the future generations if we call ourself by that name?

What I have come across in our scriptures is the sage calling himself as Brahma – ‘ Aham Brahmasmi’, after achieving realisation. ‘I am Brahma- the supreme universal power.’
Which is the exact opposite of what the westerner defines his religion ‘ Hinduism’.

The tendency to label and slot people is inherent in the western thought influenced by the church which views Bible/Quran as the sacrosanct word of God which implies that everything is pre-defined, labelled.

People who follow Christianity, Islam, Communism etc., have to per force label themselves because it is done so by their Church/belief system. They also have definition for those who are non-followers- kafirs/ pagans/ capitalist etc. Independent thought has no place in such system.

The thought system prevalent in India by contrast was very dynamic and self-regenerating. This thought process can never be understood by the majority of the westerner/christian/muslim/jew/communist.

But that should not stop us from appreciating the wealth that we have.

It is intellectually liberating to refuse labels pasted upon us by others to suit their needs.

To the extent that it is deliberate insult to be called that name!

If at all we need identity for communal purposes(its not such a bad word!*), let it be the identity of being Indian- a citizen of India.

That the public consciousness accepts such labels indicates the extent to which the westerner occupies the intellectual landscape of our nation and the extent to which we have made ourselves Orphans- without ancestors!

    *communal
–adjective 1. used or shared in common by everyone in a group: a communal jug of wine.
    2. of, by, or belonging to the people of a community; shared or participated in by the public: communal land;

Building the playground was a communal project.
    3. pertaining to a commune or a community: communal life.

I was happy to read this comment by “incognito”. I am not incognito but very much “cognito” and stick to the belief that there never was or is something called as Hinduism. I believe that Hindus are the largest “TRIBE” of the world who evolved a way of living in the Indian peninsula in line with the local climate and the biosphere. Thus Hinduism became a way of life for the millions till the Muslim invasions from across the Himalayas started. Once the invasions started followed by usual butchery and looting and later on followed by the colonialism of the land by the western powers, the nature of Hindus was forced to change but unfortunately towards the worse.

If Hinduism was a religion like any other, during so many centuries of Muslim and Christian invasions and domination, today there would have been no Hindus in India but only Muslims and Christians. This has not happened just because you can’t change the way of life in which people are born and brought up. Also this shows why many people who were converted into Islam or Christianity still secretly follow Hindu customs at their homes.
