As explained on the cover of the record album, this transcendental vibration–by chanting of Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare–is the sublime method for reviving our Krsna consciousness. As living spiritual souls we are all originally Krsna conscious entities, but due to our asociation with matter since time immemorial, our consciousness is now poluted by material atmosphere. In this polluted concept of life, we are all trying to exploit the resources of material nature, but actually we are becoming more and more entangled in our complexities.
This illusion is called maya, or hard struggle for existence over the stringent laws of material nature. This illusory struggle against the material nature can at once be stopped by revival of our Krsna consciousness.
Krsna consciousness is not an artificial imposition on the mind. This consciousness is the original energy of the living entity. When we hear the transcendental vibration, this consciousness is revived. And the process is recommended by authorities for this age. By practical experience also, we can perceive that by chanting this maha-mantra, or the Great Chanting for Deliverance, one can at once feel transcendental ecstasy from the spiritual stratum. When one is factually on the plane of spiritual understanding, surpassing the stages of sense, mind and intelligence, one is situated on the transcendental plane.
This chanting of Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare is directly enacted from the spiritual platform, surpassing all lower states of consciousness–namely sensual, mental and intellectual.
There is no need of understanding the language of the mantra, nor is there any need of mental speculation nor any intellectual adjustment for chanting this maha-mantra. It springs automatically from the spiritual platform, and as such, anyone can take part in this transcendental sound vibration, without any previous qualification, and dance in ecstasy.
We have seen it practically. Even a child can take part in the chanting, or even a dog can take part in it. The chanting should be hears, however, from the lips of a pure devotee of the Lord, so that immediate effect can be achieved. As far as possible, chanting from the lips of a nondevotee should be avoided, as much as milk touched by the lips of a serpent causes poisonous effect.
The word Hara is a form of addressing the energy of the Lord. Both Krsna and Rama are forms of addressing directly the Lord, and they mena ” the highest pleasure, eternal.” Hara is the supreme pleasure potency of the Lord. This potency, when addressed are Hare, helps us in reaching the Supreme Lord.
The material energy, called as maya, is also one of the multipotencies of the Lord, as much as we are also marginal potency of the Lord. The living entities are described as superior energy than matter. When the superior energy is in contact with inferior energy, it becomes an incompatible situation. But when the supreme marginal potency is in contact with the spiritual potency, Hara,it becomes the happy, normal condition of the living entity.
The three words, namely Hara, Krsna and Rama, are transcendental seeds of the maha-mantra, and the chanting is a spiritual call for the Lord and His internal energy, Hara, for giving protection to the conditioned soul. The chanting is exactly like a genuine cry by the child for the mother. Mother Hara helps in achieving the grace of the supreme father, Hari, or Krsna, and the Lord reveals Himself to such a sincere devotee.
No other means, therefore, of spiritual realization is as effective in this age, as chanting the maha-mantra, Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare.

Are we associating with the whole spiritual and material world as well while chanting Hare Krishna since we are associating with Krishna as He is the source of everything?
Not really. In the pure state we are associating with Krishna when we are chanting Hare Krishna and Krishna actually does not have any direct connection with the material world. Even when Krishna appears within the material world he does not really come to the material world. He brings His Vrindavan down to the material world. So Krishna comes to the material world with all His eternally liberated friends and associates who appear as cowherds men, cowheard boys, gopis, etc. So Krishna’s pastimes, although they appear to be in the material world, are actually not, Krishna’s pastimes go in in Vrindavan which is the spiritual world descended into the material world.
So Krishna has no direct connection with the material world. Of course Krishna is present as Supersoul within the hearts of every living entity and also within every atom. And you are correct when you say that everything is within Krishna, so the material world also, it is within Krishna. But that is Krishna’s separated energy and when we are chanting Hare Krishna we are associating with Krishna directly, His internal energy.
Anyhow just do it. Chant at least 16 rounds of the Hare Krishna mantra every day and try and concentrate on hearing all the syllables of the mantra every time.

What is the meaning of tears in eyes in neophyte stage? Sometimes they come while chanting, hearing, thinking etc about Krishna. Are the impurities coming out of the heart? Is it also a form of purification? Is it a sign of goodness and called ‘satvik vikar’? Many devotees mistake it as ‘bhava’ and ask what is it if it is not spiritual ecstacy? I have these questions in my mind since long time although by reading Srila Prabhupada’s books and hearing his lectures etc I have come to understand that spiritual ecstacy only takes place when we have become pure after following the rules and regulations. Please let me know what is it Prabhu.

We can ignore them and concentrate more on chanting Hare Krishna and reading Srila Prabhupada’s books. Better not to get distracted from Krishna consciousness.
There are so many who fake these ecstasies for fame profit adoration and distinction. So a real devotee does not show these things. If they come he suppresses them. So these things may come sometimes but we know we are now very advanced, we are great fools and rascals. And we don’t want these things to get in the way of our service for Srila Prabhupada and Krishna.
But it is nice of course. If reading about Krishna, chanting Hare Krishna, seeing Krishna, etc, stirs some feelings within us. It is very good. But not that we make a big deal of it or jump to the conclusion that because of a little tear we are now paramahamsas, the greatest devotees, ready to rule the world…

Hare Krishna, Madhudvisa Prabhu! Srila Prabhupada says chanting the Hare Krishna mahamantra is enough to revive our Krishna consciousness. But you mostly say that we also have to follow the four regulative principles and read Srila Prabhupada’s books at least 1-2 hours a day. Why is it so?

This is the problem of half knowledge. Read Srila Prabhupada’s letters. In 99% of his letters, he tells his disciples that the only way to remain Krishna Conscious is to read his books 2-3 hours a day, chant 16 rounds and follow the 4 regulative principles.
Even not following one of them , will make you fall down because “daivi hi esa gunamayi mama maya duratyaya…”
For what reason then did Srila Prabhupada have to write those books..?
Take it from those who have already experienced…you will definitely fall down if you don’t follow even one of them. Due to sentimentalism, you will chant for a few days, and then without knowledge, thinking that it is a waste of time, you will automatically give it up too! Moreover, Srila Prabhupada’s books are nectar! Who wouldn’t like to read it….Everything is hidden there in the boooks! So read them!

I don’t think that you are doing anything wrong, Prabhu. I just think that to become Srila Prabhupada’s disciple we need to follow the regulative principles. But it is possible to revive Krishna consciousness simply by chanting, at least to some extent and then find a guru. But in any way, I follow what you say. You are the one I trust most among Srila Prabhupada’s disciples.

Yes. Anything we do in Krishna consciousness, no matter how small, is very good and helps us along the path of Krishna consciousness. But the point is once we arrive, once we realize that Krishna consciousness is the purpose of life, and once we read Srila Prabhupada’s books and see that he is giving us the process that will enable us to purify our consciousness and become actually Krishna conscious, then if we are serious and if we actually want to become Krishna conscious then we should follow the process given by Srila Prabhupada. And that is chanting at least 16 rounds of the Hare Krishna mantra every day, following the four regulative principles strictly and reading Prabhupada’s books at least 1-2 hours a day.
At some point, if we want to actually become Krishna conscious, we have to become serious about following these things. So why not now?

I have a 2foot tall idol of Lord Sri Vishnu along with Sri Lakshmi in my house[actually lord krishna’s house :)] and those 2 idols had been laid down(sthapit karaya hai).
since childhood i worship these 2 idols and i love lord vishnu very much,now i came to know after reading bhagawad gita that sri vishnu is a plenary expansion of lord sri krishna. gita also teaches us that if someone wants to go beyond illusory energy or maya then we should worship lord sri krishna directly or in any form one likes for example lord rama,lord narsimha,lord vishnu,etc
even when i chant hare krishna hare rama mantra i only sees lord vishnu in my mind. i really want to go to krishnaloka or vaikunthloka and everyday i say to god please help me to get back to you.
but in this edition of bhagawad gita by swami ac bhaktivedanta it is written that a pure devotee only wants to worship krishna form and do not even think of His other forms or expansions. But i think that it is not wrong to worship lord vishnu because i know that lord vishnu is lord krishna but appearing differently in front of our eyes does not make him different. i love lord vishnu even when i say krishna in my mind a picture of lord vishnu appears.

Yes. Worshiping Lord Visnu is worshiping Krishna. It is not different. They are not different. Different manifestations of the same Supreme Personality of Godhead. So it is OK to worship Lord Visnu.
Pure devotee of Krishna is of course not very interested in worshiping Lord Visnu. You may know the Gopis were looking for Krishna in the forest one time and they came across Lord Visnu but they were not very interested in Lord Visnu. Just “Namaskar… Have you seen Krishna?”, that’s all. A pure devotee of Krishna is in love with Krishna. He is not interested in anyone else, even Lord Visnu.

This is rubbish, nonsense philosophy: ‘Love all serve all.’ It is impossible. You can not be the servant of everyone like this. If you say to one man: “I love you, I want to serve you, please instruct me what to do?” He will say, “Very nice, please do this for me…” Then you say to the next man you meet, “I love you, I want to serve you, please instruct me what to do?” He will say “Very nice.” and he will tell you to do some thing completely different. In this way everyone will tell you to do something different so it will be impossible for you to satisfy any of them. So this is a totally insane philosophy.
What we have to do is love Krishna and serve Krishna. Krishna is the central point. Krishna is present within the hearts of everyone. So if we can love Krishna and serve Krishna and please Krishna then automatically everyone will be pleased with us. Serving Krishna is the one switch that you can operate that will automatically illuminate everything everywhere.
So you have to give up this idea of love all and serve all. It is not possible like that. You have to love Krishna and serve Krishna and through serving Krishna you will come to actually loving everyone and you will become empowered to actually serve everyone by helping them elevate themselves to the platform of Krishna consciousness. This is the real love, this is the real service.

No, there are no rules and regulations in regard to chanting the Hare Krishna mantra in this way. This is specifically stated by the acharyas. The Hare Krishna mantra can be chanted anywhere, anytime, without any restriction at all. Even in an unclean place like the bathroom one can chant the Hare Krishna mantra. There are rules and regulations of course. Like you can not take your japa beads with you into the bathroom for example because we have to respect Srimati Tulsi Devi. But you can chant Hare Krishna in the bathroom.
There are rules and regulations in regard to chanting Hare Krishna. That is the ten offenses and you can look these up for more information on how to chant offenslessly. But there are no rules and regulations at all that in any way restrict where and when one can chant Hare Krishna. Rather the main rule is ‘kirtaniya sada hari’ ALWAYS chant the Hare Krishna mantra…

Frightened to take vows that I might fail. I chant silently when around others don’t want to be a bad example. Suffering in silence.
Of course we may fail. But failure is the pillar of success. So the point is we have to ultimately succeed. If we do not succeed we are trapped suffering in this material world eternally. And that is terrible. So there is no choice we have to take the vows. No illicit sex, no meat eating, no gambling and no intoxication and chant at least 16 rounds of the Hare Krishna mantra every day and read Srila Prabhupada’s books at least 1-2 hours a day. Without accepting these ‘vows’ there is no spiritual life, only sentiment.
So we have to take the vows and follow them and if we do fall down then what can be done. We have to just pick ourselves up again and reaffirm our vows and start following them again. That is the only way.

I rise early before 4am everymorning to to offer Mangal Aroti using the morning program cd
from Krishna store and and chant 16 rounds of the maha mantra.
As everyone in the house is sleeping at that time I chant just loud enough to hear
it like a loud whisper, is this sufficient? Also to remember throughout the day I try to chant quietly
so noone hears as Srila Praphupada says its not good for others to hear maha mantra from someone trying to be a devotee like myself, is this correct? What about Sankirtan, is it ok if I chant maha mantra with musical instruments around my family/friends and general public who may not be devotees?

Yes. It is ok to chant japa quietly early in the morning so you hear it yourself but do not wake up the other members of the family. And it is also very good to have loud kirtans later on in the day that the family members will hear, even if they are not devotees. That is the idea. By hearing the chanting of the Hare Krishna mantra from the devotees the dormant Krishna consciousness that is within everyone’s hearts is awakened. So everyone is a devotee. It is just a question of covering. Some are more covered than others. But underneath the covering of maya everyone is a devotee. So by hearing you chanting Hare Krishna that is clearing away the covering of your heart but also of the hearts of anyone else who happens to hear you chanting Hare Krishna.
So it is all good. You are doing well. Keep on chanting Hare Krishna and reading Srila Prabhupada’s books more and more and automatically Krishna will inspire you from within your heart and guide you to what He wants you to do.

When was the last time you say anybody in transcendental ecstasy? When did you experience ecstasy? Let’s get real people! The estimated 120,000 people who have taken initiation into the holy name are not feeling ecstasy, some even after 20 years of practice. You can go to any temple and there is no ecstasy from Maha Mantra. So where is this ecstasy that SP is talking about? If it was available the world would be a different place, ISKCON would be a different place.
The holy name has not lost it’s potency at all. It is fully potent and you can feel that transcendental ecstasy from the spiritual stratum. But only, as Srila Prabhupada goes on to say, if you hear it from the lips of a pure devotee and if you are careful to avoid the chanting of the non-devotees. ISKCON temples are full of demons posing as devotees and if you go there you are not going to hear from a pure devotee and you will certainly hear from many non-devotees chanting Hare Krishna. So you will not find any spiritual ecstasy at ISKCON, that is certain. But if you hear from Prabhupada, surrender to Prabhupada and follow his instructions then when you chant Hare Krishna you will feel that transcendental ecstasy from the spiritual stratum…

Yes, Yes, Yes. Hare Krishna mantra is the most powerful thing anywhere. Hare Krishna mantra is an incarnation of Krishna. Hare Krishna mantra has all the power of Krishna. Hare Krishna mantra is non-different from Krishna. So all black energy, ghosts, etc, will run away from the place where the sincere devotees are chanting the Hare Krishna mantra. But we have to chant Hare Krishna mantra seriously, at least 16 rounds a day, and for it to be most effective we need to strictly follow the four regulative principles: no illicit sex, no meat eating, no gambling and no intoxication.
So just do it. Read Prabhupada’s books, chant Hare Krishna and follow the regulative principles and all black and evil things and ghosts will go far away.

I am sorry for not giving my name here.
I am married since 10 moths and 6 months pregnant.
After mariage my dreams was shattered and Now after preganat I am feeling depressed with what is currently happening and What had happend in past.
I was a good daughter and these days due to what is happening with me in my life I have lost my temper I show this on may loving parents which I never did or had in past.
I am feeling all this will affect my baby’s growth, By Lord Krishna’s grace I want to bring a healthy and happy baby to this world.
I keep praying to God. I jsut want to come out of this depressed feeling. Can anyone please help me? Give me any Ashram or any place which will help me in this.

No ashram or holy place can help you…they will be a tempreary help…if u want a permanent solution then start enchanting lord krishna’s name…he’s resides inside ur soul..take his name and all ur problems will get solved…read gita our book everyday..problems and situations never change but gods name gives u a lot of strentgh to fight eith the unwanted situations…ull be a better person after this and more capable to help others like u…hare krishna…

I had never hurt anyone knowingly or unknowingly but I dont understand y god is still punishing me.. what is the sin i have done… I am not getting the love, respect and affection which I am suppose to get as a wife what all gets…
I am used to impress all at family which is hurting my emotions which is in turn frustrating me… since whatever i try doing to please or just follow what my duties are.. the goodness are never recognized rather some faults are found to prove me wrong by my family mem but this does not happen in front of me..
My better half also condems me infront of his family to show his contro, over me… which again pulls me down… i keep chanting gods name at all these scenarios… close to 2.6 years till now i hve not got a solution for this… My dad says its my karma which i have to clear in this janma n must undergo this… but till when 3 years is not enough for my Karma.. 🙁 … I m always good from my heart but still why?? … ppl doing all evil are always getting what they want n me nothing… they r influencing my husband also.. he is also not happy nethier me … m not telling god shud punish them but y he is not giveing me what i want??
With the depressed feeling i had also committed suicide… i know this is not correct but i cud not bear the situation,….
All i want is Love afftection n respect from my husband and family… will i ever get this.. if so still when i have to struggle for this???

I lost my mind..soul..i never get peaceful mind or life ,it is going somewere else without my controll,i angried so many peoples, ishouted them ,i cheated someone,i tortured someone,now i cnt concentrate to my job,career,study or anything i hav lost my confidence my believes,god fear,my family commitments,all etc..now i feel iam alone in this world.Now i think why iam here? why god is created me? what should i do now?dont know .i need peaceful mind, i want to leave all tensions in my mind.help me to come out ..

There is a tremendous power in Gods name. Chant his name everytime or plainly remember Him with a lots of love and respect and one by one things will start changing for better. Live like your purpose of life is to Serve Him. Think that he is your Boss / Friend / Mother / Father / Son.., whatever works for you to cultivate LOVE for him. That is why it is said “Love is the most Powerful thing there is!”.
You will then be helped automatically and your life will get better and better. There will be no time to complain because you will be busy rejoicing in the good things that come to you 🙂
Be a Spiritual warrior! Fight with the enemies of your mind i.e. Anger, etc..and Invite friends into your mind like Helping others, etc.

Actually i am the student of and as well as a devotee of iskcon… in my family only i love krishna no other love krishna and don’t know that the krishna is the suprime personality of god head and don’t believe that… but i really love iskcon and my only goal is to go back godhead… to achieve this goal the help i need is from Srila prabhupada words and iskcon devotees who can take me in right path to achieve this goal…
