You can read at http://www.PrabhupadaBooks.com but I think if you are a little serious about Krishna consciousness you need to purchase the books from http://www.KrishnaStore.com
It is much better to have the actual printed books for reading. At least that is my personal experience and opinion.

“nirvana” is not the right world. That is an impossible concept. It is the Buddhist concept of entering the void or nothingness. So there is no void anywhere in the creation of the Supreme Lord, so there is no nirvana, no nothingness, so it is not possible.
We are all eternally servants of Krishna, we are all eternally persons and all eternally active. The only way we can be happy is by engaging ourselves in the service of Krishna, and that is only possible through bhakti-yoga. So nothing else will be suitable for anyone ultimately except bhakti-yoga. All other paths are only stepping-stones to the path of bhakti. Every transcendentalist ultimately has to come to the platform of bhakti-yoga and develop love for Krishna and engage in the service of Krishna. So why bother with the stepping-stones when you can directly take to Krishna consciousness?

Yes. The love between a mother and her child is considered to be the closest thing to real love. But it is not actually real love. Still it gives us the idea of real love. The material world is like that. We can get the idea of the real thing because it is a reflection of the spiritual world, a reflection of the real thing. In so many cases these days the mothers are killing their children by having abortions. India has one of the highest abortion rates in the world. So the Indian mothers are killing their children in such huge numbers. They are murdering millions and millions of their children every year. So this is not love. This is murder.
As far as rich people they can not do anything they want. Everyone is completely bound up and controlled by the three modes of material nature. Everyone is forced to act according to their interaction with the modes of material nature. No one is free to act as he chooses. He is forced to act by the modes of material nature.
Of course according to one’s karma his position in the world may be relatively better or worse. So it may appear that one person is in a better position than another. But all are under the control of the modes of material nature and none of them are free. And all have to suffer from birth, old age, disease and death and the different miseries that everyone suffers from universally. It does not matter if one is rich or poor, everyone is suffering in the material world.

Yes, Krishna is something like the conception of the Almighty Father in the christian religion but they do not have a very clear conception of the Almighty Father… But yes, Krishna is the Almighty Father.
It is not a fact that the spiritual world is pre-conditioned by the material world. The material world is a perverted reflection of the spiritual world. So the spiritual world is the original and here we see the perverted reflection of the spiritual world. So nothing can exist here that does not have its origins in the spiritual world. But it manifests differently here because it is perverted. But the original for everything we see in the material world is the spiritual world.
So the spiritual world is the original thing, and the material world is fashioned after the spiritual world, not the other way around.

There can only be suffering when we are not surrendered to Krishna and serving Krishna. That is our natural constitutional position. Like the fish really can not be happy out of the water. We can not be happy out of Krishna consciousness.
So we have come to this material world to try and be happy without Krishna. But of course it will all end in frustration and suffering and failure. Maya gives us the illusion that we can become happy here, separately from Krishna. But that is not possible. What can I say, that is the way it is, you can believe it or not believe it, but that is the way the material world is and you can not change that.
We are not meant to be here, we are supposed to be serving Krishna in the spiritual world. We are the criminals, we are in prison, we can not expect anything except suffering here.
As far as India now India has almost completely given up all spiritual life and is completely 100% engaged in sense gratification, sex, meat eating and intoxication, so how can you expect anything to be auspicious there? How can you expect the people to behave in a civilized way?

The jivas can never fully understand Krishna. That is not possible. The jivas are eternally infinitesimal and Krishna is eternally unlimited. That will never change. The jivas can never become unlimited. They can surrender to and serve the unlimited, that is perfection.
The jiva being full of ever-increasing knowledge and bliss does not mean that he has all knowledge and bliss. That is not possible. He is full of ever-increasing knowledge and bliss.
The jiva can never become infinite, he is constitutionally tiny, small, infinitesimal..
That is the way it is. Krishna is the one unlimited living entity who supplies everything to the unlimited limited living entities.
We are tiny servants of Krishna eternally.

I tried to explain why Krishna created the material world and why we can never be happy here in the article. Maybe you can read it again. Basically we are spiritual and we belong in the spiritual world and can only be happy in the spiritual world. Just like a fish is a creature of the water and can only be happy in the water and can never be happy on land. So we are spiritual not material, we belong in the spiritual world, we can only be happy in the spiritual world, so now we are in the material world we are just like a fish out of water. And a fish out of water can never be happy no matter how much money, gold and beautiful women you give to the fish. He will never be happy unless you put him back in the water. So we will never be happy in the material world, we will only be happy when we are back in the spiritual world…

It is a very nice program that you and your wife are doing Prabhu. That is the best thing for the family members, to come together and chant Hare Krishna together and read from Srila Prabhupada’s books together. You can maintain this program and increase it as far as possible and that will make everything in your lives very auspicious.

Thank you very much for describing your experience with the krishna.org emails!
The answer to all your problems is really simple. Just realize that everything we have been taught to think is important and everything we have been taught will make us happy is not important and will not make us happy. It is all maya and it is all related to our material bodies but we are not these material bodies, we are the spirit soul within the body. So we need to feed the spirit soul and not worry so much about the material body. And the food for the spirit soul is chanting:
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hareand reading Srila Prabhupada’s books.
In the beginning we may not have much taste for it. It may not feel like it is working. But it is working. The example given to explain this is the man who has the disease jaundice. If one has this jaundice disease he looses his taste for sweet things. If he has this disease he can eat some sweet thing and it will taste bitter to him. Actually the sweet is not bitter, it is only tasting bitter to him because he is diseased. And actually the cure for this jaundice disease is eating sweet things, which the jaundice diseased person does not like to do because in his diseased condition the sweet things taste bad to him. But he has to eat them because they are the cure for his disease.
So we are also in a diseased condition. We have the material disease and the cure for this material disease is chanting Hare Krishna but because of the material disease this chanting of Hare Krishna does not taste very sweet to us, we do not like to chant Hare Krishna, because in our diseased condition we can not taste the sweetness of Hare Krishna. But if we simply force ourselves to chant Hare Krishna that will cure the material disease we are suffering from and then we will realize how sweet and how full of nectar and pleasure the Hare Krishna mantra is…
So we just have to chant Hare Krishna and read Srila Prabhupada’s books even if we don’t feel at all like chanting Hare Krishna and even if we don’t seem to be getting any benefit from it. It will work, it will purify our hearts, and we will then be able to taste the sweetness of Krishna consciousness, but it will taste bitter while we are still suffering from the material disease. But we have to keep chanting Hare Krishna to cure the material disease…

Hare Krishna Kalpana
You don’t get it. We are here in the material world to suffer. You can not stop that. That is the purpose of the material world. To inflict suffering upon us. There are three types of miseries we are all always suffering from: adiatmaka–suffering caused by the mind, adibhoutik–suffering caused by other living entities and adidevac—suffering caused by the demigods. We are all always suffering from these three types of miseries. The mind is disturbed by so many things, the family members, the workers at the office and everyone else is causing us trouble and the insects are biting us, and the demigods are providing so many natural disturbances like excessive heat and excessive cold and floods and famines and so many other unavoidable miseries. In addition to this we all suffer greatly during birth, we suffer greatly due to disease, we suffer due to old age and death. As long as one is in the bodily concept of life he must suffer from all these things, there is no alternative.
The only solution is to become Krishna conscious and a devotee in Krishna consciousness actually realizes that he is not the material body, that he is the spirit soul within the material body, and that he is eternally as servant of Krishna, and he engages himself in the service of Krishna and through this simple process his consciousness is spiritualized and he becomes transcendental to the miseries and sufferings of the material world. He becomes like a lotus leaf in the water. The lotus leaf is growing in the water but it is not touched by the water. So a devotee can be in the material world and at the same time not be touched by the material world. This is the only way to be happy.
Of course to become a devotee that also requires suffering. That is called tapasya. Tapasya is voluntary suffering undertaken by the devotee for the purpose of spiritual advancement. Srila Prabhupada instructs that we must rise before 4:30 am in the morning and offer Mangal-Aroti, in the beginning we have no taste for Krishna consciousness and at 4:30 am in the morning we want to sleep, not get out of bed and offer Mangal Aroti. But if we want to become Krishna conscious we have to surrender to the order of Srila Prabhupada and set the alarm clock and get out of bed at 4:00 am even though we feel like staying in bed and sleeping. This is suffering also, in the beginning. Instead of sleeping we get up and offer Mangal Aroti. But this sort of suffering is required to become Krishna conscious. We have to surrender to following the four regulative principles: no illicit sex, no meat eating, no gambling and no intoxication. We will still have the desire to do these things and not having sex for example when we want to have sex is suffering. But this is tapasya. And voluntary accepting this sort of suffering is required if one wants to become Krishna conscious.
So you have to get used to it. This material world is a place of suffering and that suffering is not going to stop. But the suffering is only because we falsely identify with the material body that we are not. So as soon as we become Krishna conscious then we will realize we are not the material body and then even though the material body will still be subjected to the sufferings of the material world we will be detached from and indifferent to these sufferings.
Actually once one becomes Krishna conscious he is happy, su-su-kam-kartam-avavyam. Happiness is a symptom of Krishna consciousness. If one is not happy he is not in Krishna consciousness. But even though a devotee is happy in Krishna consciousness it does not mean that his material body is free from the so-called suffering conditions of the material world. But the devotee knows he is not the body, he is not in the bodily concept of life, so these material sufferings do not effect him…
So you have to give up this dream that you can become comfortable in the material world. It is not possible.

The Hare Krishna’s in 1970 — CBS Word News interviews Rupanuga dasa
Hare Krishna Sachin
Brahmacary is essential in Krishna consciousness as this sex life is the strongest thing that keeps us in material bodily consciousness and forces us to stay in the material world and take birth again and again forever. Sex is like the shackles of the prison of maya. This material world is like a prison and the shackles that keep us locked up here in this prison is sex life. So if we are to become Krishna conscious, if we are to become free from the bodily concept of life, then we have to conquer the sex desire. And that means becoming brahmacary.
Brahmacary is for everyone in Krishna consciousness. Even if one is married he still has to practice brahmacary as a married person is only permitted to have sex once a month and then only if they want to have a child. So this is called grhastha-brahmacary, so every devotee in Krishna consciousness has to conquer the sex desire.
And yes it is very difficult to stick to. Particularly now when the whole world is flooded with illicit sex and pornography at every turn. It is very difficult to stick to. But somehow we have to get to the point where we can stick to the brahmacary principles otherwise we will not be able to become Krishna conscious.
The tips are simple. First you must control the tongue. The tongue has two businesses: vibrating and tasting. So to control the tongue we have to limit it to vibrating only the chanting of the Hare Krishna mantra and Krishna katha, talks about Krishna, and we have to limit the tongue to only tasting Krishna prasadam, food that has been cooked with love by devotees and offered to Krishna.
If we want to control the tongue and therefore the genitals, then we have to only speak about Krishna and chant Hare Krishna and only taste Krishna prasadam.
And all the other senses also have to be engaged in the service of Krishna. We have to arrange it so the ears are only hearing the glories of Krishna, and that all our other senses are engaged in the service of Krishna.
Realistically to conquer the sex desire we have to experience some pleasure that is greater than sex. And transcendental pleasure in Krishna consciousness is so much greater that the so-called pleasure in sex, and it is eternal and ever-increasing.
So anyhow do not be discouraged if you can not immediately come to the proper standard but never stop trying to control the sex desire because if we are to succeed we have to control it…

Demigods have material bodies just like we have. They are generally in the same form as us, with two hands, two legs, etc, but they are much more beautiful, they live much longer lives and the conditions on their planets are much more pleasant than here on earth. But basically their bodies are the same as ours, made from the same material elements as our bodies. Of course there are many varieties and the bodies are designed to suit the various different living conditions on the different planets. For example the sun-god is there in the sun planet along with all his servants and they have material bodies that are made predominately of fire so they are able to live in the sun. But overall demigods are just like us but more beautiful, stronger, longer living and with better facilities for material enjoyment.

It is not so much ‘association with devotees’ that we need. We need to associate with PURE devotees. The only way we will become actually Krishna conscious is by association with pure devotees. And these days the places where devotees associate it is very unlikely that we will find any pure devotees there. Since Srila Prabhupada left our physical vision ISKCON no longer stresses pure devotional service. So you will not find any pure devotees there unfortunately.
So it is very good therefore that you are far away from any temple because by visiting these temples you will only be misled, you will not get the association of pure devotees that you need to become Krishna conscious.
Fortunately for us Srila Prabhupada is still present in the form of transcendental sound. Srila Prabhupada is living in his books and you can read Prabhupada’s books and in this way you can get the direct personal association of Srila Prabhupada, a pure devotee of Krishna, and as you read Srila Prabhupada’s books you are also getting the direct personal association of Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, and all the great devotees and sages who appear in Srila Prabhupada’s books. So this is the answer Prabhu. You can associate with unlimited pure devotees by reading Srila Prabhupada’s books and in this way, by the power of association with pure devotees of Krishna, you will also become a pure devotee of Krishna.
So you are in the best place, far away from a temple. You are not going to find Krishna consciousness in a temple at the moment. You will find Krishna consciousness, and Srila Prabhupada in his books.
So read Prabhupada’s books and chant Hare Krishna and be happy!

It is not as you write that Krishna is punishing the devotees and letting the demons enjoy. Everyone is being punished here in this material world. No one is enjoying here, everyone is suffering. There is a saying ‘the grass always looks greener on the other side of the fence.’ It is about the cows, they are in a paddock and they look over the fence into the next paddock and want to go there because the grass looks greener than in their paddock. But actually the grass is the same… It just looks greener in the other paddock where the cows can not get to it.
So you are thinking that you are suffering and that the demons are enjoying and you are blaming Krishna for that. But in reality we are all experiencing the reactions of our past karma. Some have performed many pious activities in their previous lives so in this life they will be ‘enjoying’ the results of that by birth in a wealthy family and will be having some good fortune and money and apparent success will come to them. Many use this ‘good fortune’ to engage in all sorts of sinful activities and sense gratification. So that means they are burning up all the “good karma” they accumulated in their previous births and the future for them will be very dark. It may appear they are in a good position at the moment, but that will change as the reactions of their sinful actions catch up on them.
We also are getting the reactions of our past sinful and good activities. To the degree that we are surrendered to Krishna, Krishna adjusts things in our lives. But that adjustment may be as you suggest, to put His devotees in a worse material position. The thing is that a neophyte devotee, if put into a very comfortable material position, may forget Krishna, so Krishna’s great mercy to His devotees is He may take away all their material facilities so they have no option except to surrender unto Him.
So you have to realize this material world is a place of suffering for everyone and the way out is to become Krishna conscious. Of course becoming Krishna conscious does not mean that we will not suffer from the material point of view. But a devotee engaged in the service of Krishna does not actually suffer. His pleasure is in surrendering to Krishna and serving Krishna. So he accepts any suffering that this entails as Krishna’s mercy.
These things are all tests as to how serious we really are to surrender to Krishna and Srila Prabhupada. You know we have to follow the simple things otherwise it will be impossible for us to become Krishna conscious. We have to chant at least 16 rounds of the Hare Krishna mantra daily, we have to read Srila Prabhupada’s books at least 1-2 hours a day, and we have to follow the four regulative principles [no illicit sex, no meat eating, no gambling and no intoxication]. So you have to concentrate on actually doing these things every day. Although Krishna consciousness is our natural eternal position and it is a very simple thing actually, because we are in the material world and completely surrounded by materialists who are against Krishna and Krishna consciousness, and we also have come here to the material world not to serve Krishna but to become an enjoyer just like Krishna, it is very difficult for us to give up this tendency to want to be the master and surrender to Srila Prabhupada and Krishna…
So you can know it for sure that when suffering comes into our lives that is because of our sinful activities in the past and it is Krishna’s mercy that He reduces the suffering so much. A devotee is always thinking that he deserves unlimited suffering and when some suffering comes he thanks Krishna for sending only a little suffering when he deserves an ocean of suffering.
So you know, this all sounds crazy to a materialist… So the only way we can think like this is by becoming actually Krishna conscious. Then it will make sense…

Chanting 16 rounds is not a big thing. You just have to do it, and if you surrender to this chanting at least 16 rounds of the Hare Krishna mantra daily and strictly following the four regulative principles (no illicit sex, no meat eating, no gambling and no intoxication) then your health will improve also.
Maya is always trying to convince us and give us some reason why we can not chant Hare Krishna. So Prabhu you have to get out of maya and chant at least 16 rounds of the Hare Krishna mantra daily and strictly follow the four regulative principles as these things are absolutely essential if we want to become Krishna conscious. You just have to do it. Chant Hare Krishna and be happy!

I am very happy to hear that you are making nice advancement in Krishna consciousness.
Krishna is already here in the form of His holy name:
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare HareIf you take this chanting seriously by chanting the Hare Krishna mantra at least 16 rounds a day and strictly follow the four regulative principles (no illicit sex, no meat eating, no gambling and no intoxication) and read Srila Prabhupada’s books at least 1-2 hours a day then you will see gradually that Krishna and Krishna’s name are identical and actually Krishna has incarnated in the form of His holy name.
So Krishna is already here with us. We simply have to purify our consciousness so we can see Him.

It is not completely useless of course, there is still some hope… But really you will not be able to become Krishna conscious and you will not see any real significant spiritual advancement unless you surrender to the simple process Srila Prabhupada has given us. If one could become Krishna conscious by just chanting Visnu Sahasranam for five minutes each day then he would have suggested that. But it is not possible actually to become Krishna conscious by just doing this. Of course it is good, but you know what the standard is, you have to chant at least 16 rounds of the Hare Krishna mantra daily, you have to strictly follow the four regulative principles [no illicit sex, no meat eating, no gambling and no intoxication] and to give us the determination and energy to actually stick to following these things we need to become very fixed up in the philosophy of Krishna consciousness by reading Srila Prabhupada’s books at least 1-2 hours a day.
If we want to become Krishna conscious we have to surrender to Srila Prabhupada and follow his instructions and we have to be prepared to dedicate a significant amount of time to Krishna consciousness every day. Otherwise Krishna consciousness will remain unknown to us…
So you have to surrender to the process, otherwise you will never know what Krishna consciousness is… Krishna consciousness is only attainable through surrender to a bona fide pure devotee of Krishna, and surrender means we have to hear from him and we have to follow his instructions. Otherwise if we refuse to follow his instructions how can we expect to become Krishna conscious?
It is not difficult. Anyone can do it. It requires only dedication, patience and determination.

All this Hindu stuff has become so much watered-down and so much lost. Brahmins are not qualified brahmins, they do not know the Vedas, the whole thing is lost. And what is the point of praying to god for your health? Health will go, all our bodies are getting old, sick and dying. There is nothing we can do about that. That is the nature of a material body in the material world. We should take this ill health and symptoms of old age as signs from Krishna that the end of this body is near and we should utilize whatever time we have left in becoming fully Krishna conscious by strictly following the instructions we find Srila Prabhupada giving us as we read his books.
You are better off just worshiping Srila Prabhupada and Gaura-Nitai or Panca-Tattva in a simple way than all this useless demigod worship and Hindu hodge-podge.

It is not that you ‘offer your work to Krishna’. You work for Krishna under the direction of a pure devotee of Krishna. If you are going to work then you are going to work to earn money. So to make that work for Krishna then you have to offer the money you earn at work to Krishna. And the small prayer you have to utter before going to work is:
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare HareBut you have to utter it at least 16 * 108 = 1728 times.
Krishna consciousness is not something cheap. You can not achieve anything significant unless you are prepared to work for it. So if you want to become Krishna consciousness you have to be prepared to spend your time and energy chanting Hare Krishna and reading Srila Prabhupada’s books and we have to be prepared to surrender to the simple austerities of following the four regulative principles: no illicit sex, no meat eating, no gambling and no intoxication…
You know you can not turn it into a small prayer you can say in the morning…
Krishna consciousness means being Krishna conscious 24 hours a day…

This is just the way the material world works. Nothing is permanent here. No matter what we get attached to it will be taken away from us. Your friend was attached to his job and the job was taken away from him. He has to get used to this, he has to know that no matter what he gets attached to in the material world it is only temporary and it will be taken away from him. So if we know this, that everything will be taken away from us, we should not be very concerned about these things as they come and go in our life. They are not important. It does not matter what job we have or any of those things. What matters is that we are using our time to become Krishna conscious. Krishna consciousness is the only permanent thing. It is only Krishna consciousness that will never be taken away from us.
So as devotees we do not care about these temporary things coming and going in our lives. We do not expect that anything will stay, and we are not attached to anything staying. Only we are trying to become more attached to Krishna. That is the only important thing, Krishna consciousness. Everything else has no permanent value.

You have to become Krishna conscious and then you will see that every living entity is a spirit soul. You will no longer see the bodies, but you will see everyone and love everyone as a spirit soul, and eternal servant of Krishna.
You have to be tolerant of others. Everyone is at a different level of spiritual life and we have to act in such a way as to encourage everyone.
So we have to first realize that we are not these bodies, that we are eternal servants of Krishna, and we have to engage in devotional service. And then when we are somewhat fixed in Krishna consciousness we will have the potency to convince others also that they are spirit souls, eternal servants of Krishna.
There is no point in ‘preaching’ to someone who does not want to listen to you. So really we have no business associating with the Muslims unless they happen to be interested in hearing from us. And there are many Muslims also who are interested in philosophy. And of course many Muslims have become devotees over the years, and I don’t think any devotees have become Muslims… So the potency is of course there in Krishna consciousness.
But the main point we have to concentrate on is becoming Krishna conscious ourselves. If we become Krishna conscious ourselves then automatically all our relationships with others will become nice. So you need to make sure you are chanting at least 16 rounds of the Hare Krishna mantra every day, that you are strictly following the four regulative principles: no illicit sex, no meat eating, no gambling and no intoxication and that you are reading Srila Prabhupada’s books at least 1-2 hours a day. Without following these principles and chanting at least 16 rounds a day we have not even started on the path of Krishna consciousness. This is the beginning. So we have to begin, and then we have to become fixed up in following the principles and chanting our rounds and reading Prabhupada’s books and serving Srila Prabhupada and Krishna. And as I said before this becoming Krishna consciousness will automatically solve all our problems.
So we should not be finding problems with other people. Of course there are unlimited problems to find with every materialist, so what is the point of worrying about all these problems. Unless one is a devotee he is a demon, so what is the point of saying that “there are so many problems with the demons…” Of course… That is the nature of the materialists… There is a saying “The dogs may bark but the caravan will pass.” So we have to go on with our Krishna conscious activities no matter what protests and opposition others may make. And this practice of Krishna consciousness, sankirtan, is the cure for all the ills of Kali-Yuga. It will help everyone.
So chant Hare Krishna and be happy!

Yes. The only form of meditation that is practical in this age of Kali is the chanting of the Hare Krishna maha-mantra. Other so-called systems of meditation that people do are simply a mockery. They have almost nothing to do with the actual system of meditation as it is taught by Krishna in the Bhagavad-gita or even the sage Patanjali. That sort of meditation where you sit in the lotus position and half-close your eyes, etc, can not be done in the association of other people, it can not be done in a city, one has to go to a sacred and secluded place like the Himalayan mountains or the banks of the Ganges river, then there are so many prerequisites and regulations that one must follow, then to succeed in this process takes a very long time. It may take 10,000 years or 60,000 years. But we do not live that long and we can not follow the process strictly. So it is not at all possible for us to really follow that meditational yoga system in Kali-yuga.
So the best thing is forget about that so-called meditation and don’t waste your time with it. You will not get any spiritual benefit from it. When you have time spend that time chanting:
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hareand read Srila Prabhupada’s books. That will be very good for you and you will get so much spiritual benefit from these activities.
Chant Hare Krishna and be happy!

Just keep chanting Hare Krishna, and tolerate the ‘punches’. It is like that. Maya tries very hard to discourage us from chanting Hare Krishna in so many ways. We just have to ignore all these ‘punches’ of maya and keep chanting Hare Krishna…

Krishna consciousness is not a ‘different religion’. It is not a religion as you know it from other religions. A religion is something you can change. You can be a Christian and then you can change to a Hindu and then you can change to a Muslim. Krishna consciousness is not like that. Krishna consciousness can not be changed. Krishna consciousness is everyone’s eternal occupation.
So Krishna consciousness is inseparable from us all as living entities. It is an integral part of the definition of who and what we are. It is like water is wet, you can not take the wetness from water, fire is hot, you can not take the heat away from the fire. So as living entities we all have an eternal occupation. And if you study what every person is doing you will find that everyone is serving someone else. At home the parents are serving the children and the children are serving the parents, at work the staff are serving the customers and serving their bosses. And the bosses also have some master they have to serve.
Even on a personal level we have to serve our bodies. Our bodies require food so we have to work [serve] to get the food we need to supply to our body. So no matter who you study you will find they are all serving someone. And this does not change. It is not that if you change from being a Christian to a Hindu your service stops, no, the service will go on. It does not change.
So it is this nature of being a servant that is the occupation of the living entity. There are, however, two types of service, one is eternal and the other is not. It is the non-eternal type of service we are engaged in here in the material world, serving our families, our employers, the customers, etc; but this non-eternal service does not provide us with any happiness. It is not our eternal occupation. But we are eternally servants, we are eternally servants of God, Krishna.
So what Krishna consciousness is is to reawaken this dormant eternal occupation of serving Krishna that is there within all of our hearts. And yes, the way to reawaken your original Krishna consciousness is by chanting Hare Krishna:
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare HareAnd you need to do it at least 16 rounds a day. One round is chanting the mantra 108 times and you do this sixteen times and you have chanted 16 rounds.
Chant Hare Krishna and be happy!

Hare Krishna
Initiation is not available very cheaply. Of course you are saved from accepting a bogus ISKCON guru, so that is a great blessing. But in any case it is not that you just arrive at the temple and expect to be initiated on the spot. Initiation is a very serious thing. It means you have to be prepared to surrender to your spiritual master and accept him as being non-different from Krishna. Taking initiation means then you are the servant of the spiritual master you took initiation from and you must follow his every order strictly. So you have to be very careful not to take initiation from someone who is not a pure devotee of Krishna and no able to guide you in such a way that you will be able to go back home, back to Godhead.
You need to very seriously study Srila Prabhupada’s books so you can understand more clearly what are the qualities and qualifications of a bona-fide spiritual master and also understand properly what is the relationship between the spiritual master and the disciple.
Certainly you have to serve under your intending spiritual master for at least 6-12 months, so you can test him to see if he is really a bona fide spiritual master and is really qualified to take you back home, back to Godhead, and he has to test you to see if you are a bona-fide disciple.
So this accepting a spiritual master is a very serious thing and you can not expect to just do it in one day…

It is very good news. Krishna knows what you are trying to chant so if there is some imperfection in the pronunciation of the mantras in the beginning it does not matter. Krishna knows what you are trying to say. So it is best to chant the mantras as best you can even if you are not completely sure of the pronunciation. The traveling temple comes with a morning program CD and that contains the audio of all the prayers and matras which we chant during the morning program. Srila Prabhupada’s pranam mantras and the Hare Krishna mantra and Panca-tattva mantra are on that, and you will hear many other mantras chanted and you will soon get the idea how things are chanted and you will have no problems with the other two mantras.
So just try your best and Krishna will give you the intelligence how to pronounce the mantras properly. There is a Sanskrit pronunciation guide in the back of all of Srila Prabhupada’s books and you can get many hints from this. One hint is the letters that have the line on top of them are ‘long’ so they are pronounced for twice as long as the short versions of the same letter.
But certainly just do everything to your best ability, there will be some imperfections in the beginning, but that does not matter, they will soon be corrected.
Chant Hare Krishna and be happy!
