I am more interested in the teachings of Buddha himself. I have sometimes read
various books on Buddhism but there is, as I am sure you will admit, a very great
variation in the beliefs of so many Buddhist groups.

The background to Lord Buddha's appearance is in India, before his appearance, the
people in general were following the Vedic scriptures but they were
misinterpreting the sections on animal sacrifice and had practically turned every
place into a slaughter-house.

So Lord Buddha appeared to introduce his philosophy of non-violence to stop the
animal killing. He had to reject the Vedic scriptures [which are theistic] so he
said, "I reject any scripture which condones animal killing." And he went on to
describe his philosophy without mentioning God. There is no God in his original
teachings. If the Tibetan Buddhists have discovered God as a result of their
Buddhist meditation then that is fantastic and I am very pleased. But Lord Buddha
didn't say anything about God...

There is only one religion, to develop love for God. So I have never said that
Hare Krishna's are the only ones who can develop love for God. God is in everyones
heart, He doesn't look to see what denomination we are, he sees our desire to
serve Him, our love for Him...

You mean they restrict your sense gratification. For you and our "civilization"
generally "advancement" means more sense pleasure... More sex, more drugs, more
parties, more "consumer goods". But religion is about reestablishing our
relationship with God... It's not very popular these days... But your
"civilization" is only for a few days... We are eternal spirit souls. Your
"civilization" is only for a few days...

Yes. And all the roads leaving Sydney end up at Melbourne...

Yes, there is truth here. We have distorted so many things. But if you want the
clear message is there. You can read Bhagavad-gita As It Is, or Srimad Bhagavatam.
Everything is there. We think we get pleasure from this "civilization" but it only
gives us trouble. We think there will be so many difficulties in serving
Krishna... But that's where the real pleasure is.

Thank you. Hare Krishna!
