Who is Krishna?
Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, is an historical person who appeared on this earth in India 5,000 years ago. He stayed on this earth for 125 years and played exactly like a human being, but His activities were unparalleled.
In these Western countries, when someone sees the cover of a book like Krsna, he immediately asks, “Who is Krishna? Who is the girl with Krishna?” etc.
The immediate answer is that Krishna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. How is that? Because He conforms in exact detail to descriptions of the Supreme Being, the Godhead. In other words, Krishna is the Godhead because He is all-attractive. Outside the principle of all-attraction, there is no meaning to the word Godhead. How is it one can be all-attractive? First of all, if one is very wealthy, if he has great riches, he becomes attractive to the people in general. Similarly, if someone is very powerful, he also becomes attractive, and if someone is very famous, he also becomes attractive, and if someone is very beautiful or wise or unattached to all kinds of possessions, he also becomes attractive. So from practical experience we can observe that one is attractive due to 1) wealth, 2) power, 3) fame, 4) beauty, 5) wisdom, and 6) renunciation. One who is in possession of all six of these opulences at the same time, who possesses them to an unlimited degree, is understood to be the Supreme Personality of Godhead. These opulences of the Godhead are delineated by Parasara Muni, a great Vedic authority.
We have seen many rich persons, many powerful persons, many famous persons, many beautiful persons, many learned and scholarly persons, and persons in the renounced order of life unattached to material possessions. But we have never seen any one person who is unlimitedly and simultaneously wealthy, powerful, famous, beautiful, wise and unattached, like Krishna, in the history of humanity. Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, is an historical person who appeared on this earth 5,000 years ago. He stayed on this earth for 125 years and played exactly like a human being, but His activities were unparalleled. From the very moment of His appearance to the moment of His disappearance, every one of His activities is unparalleled in the history of the world, and therefore anyone who knows what we mean by Godhead will accept Krishna as the Supreme Personality of Godhead. No one is equal to the Godhead, and no one is greater than Him. That is the import of the familiar saying, “God is great.
”
There are various classes of men in the world who speak of God in different ways, but according to Vedic literatures and according to the great acaryas, the authorized persons versed in the knowledge of God, in all ages, like acaryas Sankara, Ramanuja, Madhva, Visnusvami, Lord Caitanya and all their followers by disciplic succession, all unanimously agree that Krishna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. As far as we, the followers of Vedic civilization, are concerned, we accept the Vedic history of the whole universe, which consists of different planetary systems called Svargalokas, or the higher planetary system, Martyalokas, or the intermediary planetary system, and Patalalokas, or the lower planetary system. The modern historians of this earth cannot supply historical evidences of events that occurred before 5,000 years ago, and the anthropologists say that 40,000 years ago Homo sapiens had not appeared on this planet because evolution had not reached that point. But the Vedic histories, the Puranas and Mahabharata, relate human histories which extend millions and billions of years into the past.
For example, from these literatures we are given the histories of Krishna’s appearances and disappearances millions and billions of years ago. In the Fourth Chapter of the Bhagavad-gita Krishna tells Arjuna that both He and Arjuna had had many births before and that He (Krishna) could remember all of them and that Arjuna could not. This illustrates the difference between the knowledge of Krishna and that of Arjuna. Arjuna might have been a very great warrior, a well-cultured member of the Kuru dynasty, but after all, he was an ordinary human being, whereas Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, is the possessor of unlimited knowledge. Because He possesses unlimited knowledge, Krishna has a memory that is boundless.
Krishna’s knowledge is so perfect that He remembers all the incidents of His appearances some millions and billions of years in the past, but Arjuna’s memory and knowledge are limited by time and space, for he is an ordinary human being. In the Fourth Chapter Krishna states that He can remember instructing the lessons of the Bhagavad-gitasome millions of years ago to the sun-god, Vivasvan.
Nowadays it is the fashion of the atheistic class of men to try to become God by following some mystic process. Generally the atheists claim to be God by dint of their imagination or their meditational prowess. Krishna is not that kind of God. He does not become God by manufacturing some mystic process of meditation, nor does He become God by undergoing the severe austerities of the mystic yogic exercises. Properly speaking, He never becomes God because He is the Godhead in all circumstances.
Within the prison of His maternal uncle Kamsa, where His father and mother were confined, Krishna appeared outside His mother’s body as the four-handed Visnu-Narayana. Then He turned Himself into a baby and told His father to carry Him to the house of Nanda Maharaja and his wife Yasoda. When Krishna was just a small baby the gigantic demoness Putana attempted to kill Him, but when He sucked her breast He pulled out her life. That is the difference between the real Godhead and a God manufactured in the mystic factory. Krishna had no chance to practice the mystic yoga process, yet He manifested Himself as the Supreme Personality of Godhead at every step, from infancy to childhood, from childhood to boyhood, and from boyhood to young manhood. In the book Krsna, all of His activities as a human being are described. Although Krishna plays like a human being, He always maintains His identity as the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
Since Krishna is all-attractive, one should know that all his desires should be focused on Krishna. In the Bhagavad-gita it is said that the individual person is the proprietor or master of the body but Krishna, who is the Supersoul present in everyone’s heart, is the supreme proprietor and supreme master of each and every individual body. As such, if we concentrate our loving propensities upon Krishna only, then immediately universal love, unity and tranquillity will be automatically realized. When one waters the root of a tree, he automatically waters the branches, twigs, leaves and flowers; when one supplies food to the stomach through the mouth, he satisfies all the various parts of the body.
The art of focusing one’s attention on the Supreme and giving one’s love to Him is called Krishna consciousness. We have inaugurated the Krishna consciousness movement so that everyone can satisfy his propensity for loving others simply by directing his love towards Krishna. The whole world is very much anxious to satisfy the dormant propensity of love for others, but the inventions of various methods like socialism, communism, altruism, humanitarianism, nationalism, and whatever else may be manufactured for the peace and prosperity of the world, are all useless and frustrating because of our gross ignorance of the art of loving Krishna. Generally people think that by advancing the cause of moral principles and religious rites, they will be happy. Others may think that happiness can be achieved by economic development, and yet others think that simply by sense gratification they will be happy. But the real fact is that people can only be happy by loving Krishna.
Krishna can perfectly reciprocate one’s loving propensities in different relationships called mellows or rasas. Basically there are twelve loving relationships. One can love Krishna as the supreme unknown, as the supreme master, the supreme friend, the supreme child, the supreme lover. These are the five basic love rasas. One can also love Krishna indirectly in seven different relationships, which are apparently different from the five primary relationships. All in all, however, if one simply reposes his dormant loving propensity in Krishna, then his life becomes successful. This is not a fiction but is a fact that can be realized by practical application. One can directly perceive the effects that love for Krishna has on his life.
In the Ninth Chapter of the Bhagavad-gita this science of Krishna consciousness is called the king of all knowledge, the king of all confidential things, and the supreme science of transcendental realization. Yet we can directly experience the results of this science of Krishna consciousness because it is very easy to practice and is very pleasurable. Whatever percentage of Krishna consciousness we can perform will become an eternal asset to our life, for it is imperishable in all circumstances. It has now been actually proved that today’s confused and frustrated younger generation in the Western countries can directly perceive the results of channeling the loving propensity toward Krishna alone.
It is said that although one executes severe austerities, penances and sacrifices in his life, if he fails to awaken his dormant love for Krishna, then all his penances are to be considered useless. On the other hand, if one has awakened his dormant love for Krishna, then what is the use in executing austerities and penances unnecessarily?
The Krishna consciousness movement is the unique gift of Lord Caitanya to the fallen souls of this age. It is a very simple method which has actually been carried out during the last four years in the Western countries, and there is no doubt that this movement can satisfy the dormant loving propensities of humanity. The book Krsna is another presentation to help the Krishna consciousness movement in the Western world. This transcendental literature is published in two parts with profuse illustrations. People love to read various kinds of fiction to spend their time and energy. Now this tendency can be directed to Krishna. The result will be the imperishable satisfaction of the soul, both individually and collectively.
It is said in the Bhagavad-gita that even a little effort expended on the path of Krishna consciousness can save one from the greatest danger. Hundreds of thousands of examples can be cited of people who have escaped the greatest dangers of life due to a slight advancement in Krishna consciousness. We therefore request everyone to take advantage of this great transcendental literature. One will find that by reading one page after another, an immense treasure of knowledge in art, science, literature, philosophy and religion will be revealed, and ultimately, by reading this one book, Krsna, love of Godhead will fructify.

I am posting the Divine message of KRISNA consciousness. We have no more time left to dilly dally around. The dark days of the Kali Yug are here. Even the spell checker on this keyboard wants to place hate instead of Hare. Its corruption has leaked into almost all facets of this material world. Yogas have been corrupted, and the only time I feel true happiness is when I change or read about Lord KRISNA. That makes me feel so safe and even secure. So how does renunciation come together with all the rest?
I guess it´s another “mystery”.
Like saying I am rich and powerful and famous and beautiful and wise but I don´t really need all of that crap but keep it nevertheless, just in case…
No, it’s not a mystery. These are attractive qualities: wealth, strength, knowledge, fame, beauty and renunciation. When a person has a huge amount of money, for example, but is not attached to that money at all, and gives it all away, that is renunciation, and that renunciation is an attractive quality like the four others. People are attracted to a person who is renounced. Of course a real sannyasi, who is not attached to material sense gratification, no sex desire, etc, becomes very attractive. People are attracted to renunciation, just like they are attracted to wealth, fame, beauty and knowledge.
I read bhagwat Geeta and continuously chanting hare Krishna maha mantra , I want to serve peoples in the Gambia Knifing (the west Africa) but I found no path for this . I pray god to help me so that the peoples interested in bhagwat Geeta & chanting hare Krishna maha mantra meet me contact me .

thanks for enlightening me about Krishna, am presently reading the Bhagavad gita. Am so unhappy the way my life is going, I see so much darkness, witchcraft attacks, strange women blocking my in dreams etc. What can I do to attract Krishna’s help?
Chant Hare Krishna mantra at least 16 rounds a day. Strictly follow the four regulative principles [no illicit sex, no meat eating, no gambling, no intoxication] and read Srila Prabhupada’s books at least 1-2 hours a day…

I have one question, I know because we wanted to enjoy apart from Krishna we have this mortal life, but why this mystery of life and death?We don’t remember anything but should have unflinching trust and faith to know God but sometimes when I think deeply on this I get terribly friightened that this life is temporary to all.
I really want to know this mystery of life.
I chant Hare Krishna and do meditation but i am very impatient for getting the answer.

There is no death. The soul is eternal. So there is no reason to be afraid. Read Srila Prabhupada’s books every day for at least 1-2 hours and gradually everything will be revealed. We can not understand everything through a one paragraph explanation…
Life and death is just a cycle. Just like when a criminal does crime, he’s forced inside the jail every time, similarly our soul has been given this body to do our part of KARMA, and if we engage ourselves in sinful activities then we have to take birth and die again and again in this material world, which is like a jail. So in order to understand the cycle of life and death, it is important to understand why we are here and how can we get rid of this cycle.
Krishna says in Bhagawat Geeta that whosoever desires to attain him, love him and surrender unto him, never takes birth again. So this is the actual goal of life. Love Krishna, surrender unto him and develop desire to attain him, then the aim of life will only be to live with Krishna forever, and if one desires to live with Krishna forever then there won’t be any worries regarding this body or life or death. We’ll be independent and will be able to surrender unto Krsna peacefully.

Spiritual awareness brings about loneliness at times, because this life is just an illusion. Many do not understand because the veils of ignorance have not been lifted.
In the material world someone who is spiritually aware may at times feel lonely because almost everyone in the material world is a materialist and is not very interested in anything spiritual. A devotee wants to associate with other devotees. He does not want to associate with and really does not have very much in common with a materialist. But actually we are not alone. Srila Prabhupada is always with us. All we have to do is open one of his books and start reading and we will be associating with Srila Prabhupada. And we can go out with some of Srila Prabhupada’s books and talk to the people and convince them to take and read some of Srila Prabhupada’s books and give a donation to help with the printing cost. That is engaging in practical devotional service. And that will ultimately create more devotees who we can associate with and chant Hare Krishna with and talk about Krishna with. Then we will not be lonely any more. At the moment the time is a bit difficult but we just have to go on chanting Hare Krishna and serving Srila Prabhupada and try to increase the number of devotees by increasing the number of people reading Srila Prabhupada’s books and then ultimately there will be so many devotees and we will no longer be lonely.

I have wonder when we finally return to the spiritual world will we have any memories of this world? 2) Will we ever re-meet souls in the spiritual lokas that we have know here in the material planet?

Yes. In the spiritual world we will remember our life in the material world. But we will have no desire to come back to the material world. Material world is a horrible place.
The thing is in the material world our relationships are only based on the bodily conception of life. We don’t even know the souls of the people we associate with in the material world. Our relationship is only based on the external material body. So in the spiritual world the material bodies are not there.
If you are interested in meeting the family members, etc, there is a pitri-loka planet, so the family minded people go there. But that is a material planet in the material word for people who are materialists.
We have to realize that we have no relation actually to the body. We are not the body, we are the spirit soul. So we need to give up the attachment to body, family members, etc. It will automatically happen as we advance more in Krishna consciousness.
So the main thing is we need to become Krishna conscious. If we become Krishna conscious then automatically all good qualities will appear within us.

There are thousands of people worldwide who are non-hindus but are attached with ISKON community to understand who he was. Do the people writing rubbish abt Krishna are in their sense? Check the Net thoroughly, it goes like this that NASA gave a report that India is protected by a Super-Natural powers, are they FOOLs to publish that? Also it goes like this that proofs are there that Dwarka city was ther and now submerged under sea, matter is abt 10000yrs ago ! Also it is a belief that JESUS is the son of GOD, then is he the son of SRI KRISHNA ? So to understand HIM, first you have to devote your valuable time and read the facts, One thing is true it is not a matter of joke.He is still living…These are not beliefs but proven, as u must know that a mobile co was going to launch a software that could recognise the voices of languages, unfortunately in every of the languages some notes or pronunciations were such that the computer could not detect, but SANSKRIT was the only language which came out to be a successful one. So INDIA and its origins matters, and it maatered for several thousands of yrs b’coz all outsiders powerful kings always eyed on ‘BHARATVARSHA’

i am an illiterate in matter of Krishna..as i only had believe in him and not any bookish gathering,But one thing i am sure about is “Jesus is the real son of Krishna” as he even lasted his last breath to make Peoples understand the teaching of Krishna..jesus was a “Munni”.The one who was above all happiness,above all sorrows and grief,above all angerness,above all kindness..

I want to let you know a story of my own. We have one son and for nine years we tried for an other child. But due some of our bad did, we are not blessed by the God another child.In one Janmastami while standing at the Puja Altar at house and gazing to the pictures and idols of Krisna,Radha,Yashoda a thought had come to my mind and I rushed to the shop and brought a Brass metal Bal-Gopal of 3″ to 4″ size to my home with His dress and ornaments. I set Bal-Gopal to the Brass metal Jhoola(Swing) and worshipped Him with my cry heart and requested Him for forgive me for our mis-did and bless with a child.
After the Janmashtami celebration we heard a good news from the doctor that my wife is with her new baby. It was only within two months after the Janmashtami that we received the good news and our second son with black complextion come to us. And we renamed the Bal-Gopal as Krishno Dada.That was and many more blessings we are still receiving by HIS mercy. We celebrates His coming to earth(Janmashtami) in our House every year along with all the Gurus. Hare Krishna.

Thanks to all who have chanted His Holy name, who have worshipped His Holy feet and sung His prayers. I do not know whether it happens to others or not but by just looking at Krishna’s ethereal picture, I get a kind of solace in my mind. Looking at his Holy feet gives a great consolation to my mind. I feel as if there is someone who is there to look after me and lead me to the path of eternal peace. Great are those souls who were able to sacrifice all material loves and loved only Krishna by heart. Let all live in peace.
Namaste dear Madhudvisa dasa, I have read the book “Beyoned birth and death” and in the last chapter “Associating with krishna” I have found a verse and its meaning is,
Lord chaitanya mahaprabhu prays
“O my lord! Your holy name alone can render all benediction upon the living beings, and therefore You have hundreds of names, like Krsna and Govinda. In these transcendental names you have invested all your transcendental energies and there is no hard and fast rule for chanting these holy names. O my lord! you have so kindly made approach to you easy by your holy names, but unfortunate as I am I have no attraction for them”
Why doesnt he have any attraction to them? If he is pure devotee of Lord krishna then he must be loving his names. Then why does he say like this? Please tell me!!!

If your living in toronto. There is one iskon temple in downtown near rosedale ttc station. just search it on google and you will find it. and to all those curious souls ( including me). God is one. all those demigods out there is the part of supreme lord just like we are. we all are his creation. if you worship him in form of krishna, he will come to in that way, if in form of nothing (like some people dont do idol worship) he will still come to you as long as your love to god is pure. We must learn to love god just as a mother does to her child. she doesnt love her child because she is expects something from her. she loves her no matter if her he/she provides her with wordly comforts. and, yes it is still possible to believe in jesus while believing in krishna.one who truly loves god doesnt do such discrimination. This life is a test. if we pass this test we go back to our real home. back to godhead. the home of krishna or the god. and if we doesnt we keep coming back to earth until we clean our sins. the only way to cleanse our sins is to chant gods name and doing good deeds and not hurting others. once we start chanting lords name with determination , he will see that determination and will definately help you out in cleaning our sins. but you need to learn to love god first. if your just worshiping him because you want something, you and he will know that. and thats not considered as love. and if you think that even after worshipping him he aint helping out( which is the thinking of a businessman where he expects something by giving something) then thats sad. when god doesnt gives what your demanding that mean he has better plans for you so you must not repent. and yes, you dont have ask stuffs from god. he has created you and he already knows what you need. animals dont ask food from god yet he provides them with the food. similarly, we must come out from that thinking and accept what god has given to us and do hardwork to achieve something in life and love god because that guides you how to perform good deeds by not getting affected by happiness or sorrows that comes in ones life. so, stay calm, chant hare krishna, avoid hurting as much as possible to any living being and give up ego and anger. love every living being as god is situated in everyones heart. my first question is, what happened to Khrisna after He stayed 125 years here on earth? Did he died? Why can’t he stayed here on earth for a longer time?is his body grow old and died? Why didn’t He just raised himself from the dead and oversee things until now. I know Jesus came to earth 2000years ago, He died, but He rose again after three days…and you can not deny that facts because you said you believe in Jesus Christ…if you believed in Jesus Christ and He rose again from the dead as Jesus Christ Himself…why do we need another Krishna? Don’t you find it strange?
• Krishna is the supreme sorcerer. (70/37) – he is a sumpreme sorcerer? I know God hate sorceries, look at what God did to those who practice it. and krishna the supreme sorcerer? We wall know that sorcery is evil.
• Krishna is unborn. (59/28, 74/21) He is unborn? How can he be unborn when you said that He was already a man and take a form of a baby.
• Krishna does not follow the ways of the world. (60/36) He does not follow the ways of the world? Really, why does he did those “mischievous things when he was a boy? stealing butter. so your god is a sinner cause a person who steals is a thief.

I never pray for krishna and not go to his temple reqularly he is powerful god 6 years back i am got big financial issue when he came to my dreams and give 8no.s chocolate next day my all financial problem solved it is true still i am eating he given money and still i am not going to his temple yearly once very rare. his very powerful god.
why i worship krishna
during my childhood i was not a person who was much interested in religion.once i read bhagavat gita and it changed my whole attitude.to be honest i started reading gita only because i was struggling in the lifes battle.
gita was very direct.with a single word it solved my different problems NISHKAMAKARMA (do your duty and leave the result to god).nowadays i am practising to face situations with a stable mind.
Like a candle kept in still air ALWAYS STEADY.Because i believe in his word……YOU ARE DEAR TO ME AND YOU WILL ATTAIN MOKSHA .
There is one God that scriptures of the world all point to. The Christian Bible does not contain a Table of Contents, the canon was not complete when the church councils decided.The Bible itself contains many different books, names and various descriptions of the Same One God. Whatever differences there are in the different books in the Bible are understood and interpreted in such a way that the differences create the context for each other. The same God who walks in the Garden and talks to Adam and Eve in the Garden tells Moses that no one can look upon his face and live. These are different revelations of One God.
There is no need to assume that the Vedas, The Ramayana, The Mahabharata (Gita), Tanakh (“Old Testament”), the New Testament & the Koran are anything other than all the different revelations of One God. Any other “gods” are simply angelic beings and not the almighty. There is no reason for bickering. Brahman, Rama, Krishna, Yahweh, Jesus and Allah are all forms of the Same Supreme God. Depending on the spiritual tradition one or the other name and form is understood as the supreme Form of that one God, it happens that the Tradition of Sri Chaitanya teaches that Krishna is the Supreme form of God. Whether you believe that all the forms are equal or that one or the other is supreme there would be no problem with being a Christian and believing this. It’s even possible to believe that Krishna is the Supreme form of God and still be a Christian. Krishna would then be the Complete Source form which Jesus emanated ( the Father of the Son).

Hello and God bless. I am a believer in the christian faith. I TRY (dont always do) my best to live the way my lord Jesus Christ lived. I know a little about Krishna, son of a prince and princes…supreme godhead…cowhearder…casted out demons. In a response to Ashely you said you still consider yourself a christian, yet you convertaed to Krishna consciousness. How can you be both? In the same response you mentioned that the bible is a kind of simlple translation of the Bhagavad Gita. Bible says there is only one God, whats the Bhagavad Gita take on that? Aside from meditation, chanting, and loving him, what where krishna’s teachings/message to the world?
The Bible and Bhagavad Gita all say the same thing- there is only One. The Gita, however, speaks of many incarnations of the Lord in his many mysterious forms. This does not create a pantheon of God, just a dualistic description of the One.
This is a major shortcoming that was described in the above article- not many Christians truly follow Jesus, where Krishna’s followers have no choice in the matter.
Once you have entered the stream of Eternal Love there is no escaping It. This stream is ever pouring from the Lord to all, if only we would listen.
Meditation, chanting, loving…these are just concepts. To a Supreme Being, from which all concepts flow, there is only Love, fellowship with her fellow kin in life, and with the Lord.
That is Krishna’s message- truly BE love, not just in words and deeds.
Can you tell me if Maharishi Mahesh Yogi made any contributions at all to bringing Krishna to the West in his TM program? Maybe his teachings lacked that of Swami Prabhupada, but nevertheless, did he do anything at all to get people interested in the story and past times of Krishna & Bhagavad Gita?
No. Maharishi simply poisoned the people he came in touch with with the impersonal and mayavadi ideas. He did not help anyone but rather caused a great deal of damage to everyone he came in touch with. Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu said many times “Mayavadi bhasya suniya haya sarva nasa.” If anyone hears the mayavadi philosophy he is doomed. He will never be able to understand Krishna Bhakti. So Maharishi poisoned and doomed so many people who came in touch with him. Also Caitanya Mahaprabhu clearly established that the Mayavadis are offenders to Krishna.
Still, the Mayavadis do understand that we are not the material body and that this material world is not where we belong, and in this sense they can be considered more advanced than the general people:
“Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu says, māyāvādī kṛṣṇe aparādhī: one who thinks that everything is māyā instead of thinking that everything is Kṛṣṇa is called an aparādhī, or offender. Although the Māyāvādīs, impersonalists, are offenders at the lotus feet of Kṛṣṇa, they may nonetheless be counted among the siddhas, those who have realized the self. The problem is once someone hears from a Mayavadi it is very, very difficult for him to ever understand Krishna consciousnesss… That is why hearing the preaching of mayavadis like Maharishi is very, very dangerous and harmful.

This is not the way it works. Chanting Hare Krishna and demanding that Krishna do something for us. Krishna does not necessarily give us what we ask for. We do not worship Krishna because we want to get something from Him. We worship Krishna because we understand that Krishna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, He owns everything, He has given us everything we have, we are all tiny parts and parcels of Krishna and the purpose of the small part is to serve the whole. So the devotee understands that his purpose is to serve Krishna. He does not demand anything from Krishna in return.

Krishna is not obliged to do anything we ask Him to do. He is completely independent. Just because you have been a devotee for a year doesn’t oblige Krishna to immediately jump at your every command and serve you.
It is not the mood of a devotee Prabhu, to ask Krishna to do things for us. Whatever position we are in, good or bad, we should accept that as the mercy of Krishna and be satisfied and use everything we have in the service of Krishna. We should not desire for anything more than what comes naturally in this way.
And we should not be surprized or shocked by the constant clamaties and suffering that is going on in the material world. That is the nature of the material world, it is a place of misery where there is repeated birth and death going on.
Krishna is in our hearts Prabhu, He knows exactly what we need and exactly what we want. We do not have to ask Him for anything, He already knows. And if He wants to He will supply it to us but if, for some reason that we may not understand, He does not want to supply this to us, then we should be happy with this and accept this apparent suffering as Krishna’s mercy.
We should not be angry with Krishna, “Krishna I have served you for so long and now I have just asked for this little thing and You have not given it to me!!!” No, no, no. That is the wrong mentality…
We should take Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s instructions in this matter:
ashlishya va pada-ratam pinashtu mam
adarshanan marma-hatam karotu va
yatha tatha va vidadhatu lampato
mat-prana-nathas tu sa eva naparah
I know no one but Krsna as my Lord, and He shall remain so even if He handles me roughly by His embrace or makes me brokenhearted by not being present before me. He is completely free to do anything and everything, for He is always my worshipful Lord, unconditionally.
This is the mood Prabhu, we have to love Krishna and serve Krishna even if He seems to handle us roughly and not look after us very nicely.
Krishna has a plan, if we surrender to Him and serve Him, that is our duty, what He does with us is up to Him, it is our duty to simply surrender to Him and serve Him, even if that seems to cause a difficult condition in our lives.

I have recently become interested in Krishna. I am still gathering information if you will about Krishna and who he is.
I am not a member of any organized religion, I consider myself a Spiritualist. I have been to a Spiritualist Temple and felt very comforatable there.
As of now I feel as if I have been called to Krishna through some unusual circumstances.
I just have a few questions about it all.
I was just wondering you say Krishna is the supreme personality of Godhead. So in other words Krishna is God the one who created heaven and earth?
If this is so is Jesus Christ ,Krishnas son?
Sorry if my questions seem silly , I am still confused as to how I should concentrate upon Krishna.
Like I said I feel drawn to Krishna and want to start on my way to becoming a full member.

Yes. Krishna is the “Supreme Personality of Godhead.” It means He is God. Like the “Father in Heaven” mentioned in the Bible who created heaven and earth. That is talking about Krishna. And Jesus is the “Son of God” so He is the son of Krishna.
The Bible is giving a simplified explanation of everything. The Vedas give a much more detailed explanation. For example in the Bible you have one or two chapters about the creation, whereas in the Vedas you can find dozens of big books that give all the fine details and scientific explanations of all the aspects of the creation.

I got to this page because I was told that Krishna was born of a virgin, son of a carpenter, killed by crucifiction, etc. Apparently this was stated on some tv documentary. As far as I can tell from my research so far, this is false. Do you have anything to say to this?

Krishna was not born in the ordinary way. He appeared in a full-grown form and later transformed Himself into the form of a child. So He was not born like an ordinary child. However His mother, Devaki, had previously given birth to six other sons who were all killed by the demon King Kamsa very soon after their birth. So in this way Devaki was not a virgin before Krishna was born. And Krishna’s father, Vasudeva, was more like a King than a carpenter. Krishna was not killed, He lives eternally, there was no crucifixion. So yes, all of this is false and your research is correct.

Hello. I am a Christian and have been one my whole life, but I am also a writer and student. I have often struggled with my faith because there are so many systems of belief in the world and I wonder that everyone who believes in them as I believe in what I do could be wrong etc. I think that this exclusion of different beliefs is common to most systems of belief, but I would like to know what you think about it. I read what you wrote about Krishna and have been researching because of studies and as you wrote of the focusing of love on Krishna by individuals, I felt it bore semblance to the love and centeralizing of God/Christ by individuals in my faith. So I am just curious to find what you think or believe about someone like me. Am I wrong or damned according to your system because I don’t believe and love Krishna, though I love Christ in the same way?
As an aside, I would like to be clear; I do not always know exactly what I believe about everything because I am still learning, but I do not mark you as wrong or anything because you do not believe exactly as I do. I am just curious to know what you think and believe about it. I am always interested to know more about other people’s faith because I often find it enriching to know more then just what I was raised to believe.

We accept that Lord Jesus Christ is the sun of God, like he says he is. And a true follower of Christ is certainly making spriitual advancement. So we are encouraging the Christians to seriouuly follow the teachings of Lord Jesus Christ.
In Krishna consciousness we are not saying that different religious systems are false and only our way is correct. No. Krishna says in the Bhagavad Gita that whenever there is a discrepancy in the practice of the religious principles in the world He descends Himself or he sends His representative, His son, His prophet, to reestablish the religious principles.
So we see Lord Jesus Christ in this way. As an empowered incarnation of God who appeared to reestablish the true religious principles in the world when they were lost.
Time is a very powerful thing. Time will ultimately destroy everything. So pure spiritual knowledge is established at a certain point by God or His representative and after some time that pure spiritual knowledge becomes distorted and lost. So there is an on-going need for Krishna to appear within the material world to reestablish the religious principles. He is doing this time and time again throughout the ages.
When God or His representative appears in a particular country to reestablish the religious principles he will preach in the local language and give examples from the local lifestyle and in this way his preaching will be given in such a way that it is easy for the audience to understand. So, if you look at the teachings of Jesus, for example, which he gave to some fishermen, and compare them to Krishna’s extensive teachings in the Vedas in India you may superficially see some differences. But the differences are not actually differences in the subject matter, rather they are differences in presentation according to the capacity of the audience to understand.
Jesus Himself says “There are so many things I have not told you, because at the moment you could not bear these things.” And he goes on to say that the will be revealed later on. So the presentation of Jesus is a simplified version of the presentation of Krishna in the Vedas. But the subject matter is exactly the same. It is like if you had two dictionaries, a pocket dictionary and the Webster Universal Dictionary. Both are dictionaries and you can not say either one is incorrect. It is just that there are more words and more elaborate descriptions of the words in the Webster Universal Dictionary than in the Pocket Dictionary.
Actually this was one of the points that attracted me to Krishna consciousness in the beginning. I was also [and still consider myself to be] a Christian, and the devotees were not saying that “Christianity is bad, you have to convert to Krishna consciousness.” They accepted that Lord Jesus Christ was the son of God but lamented that generally speaking the so-called “Christians” of today are not following the teachings of Jesus Christ at all. This age is called “Kali Yuga” and one meaning of Kali Yuga is “The age of quarrel and hypocrisy.” So the tendency is these days everyone is hypocritical. Including the Christians. Generally they claim to be “Christian” but do not follow the teachings of Jesus Christ in the Bible.
They give so many excuses, like “We are all sinners, eternally. Jesus has died for our sins. I will keep sinning and Jesus will suffer for my sins…” This is a very perverted and completely incorrect understanding of the teachings of Lord Jesus Christ. You can read in the Bible when John the Baptist was performing his baptisms he was stressing that although they were being washed of their past sins through the process of baptism, the people had to repent and stop their sinful activities. It means nothing to get baptized and then to continue with your sinful activities just like before. Baptism is supposed to be a transforming, purifying experience. If the Christians are not being transformed and purified by Baptism then it is not working.
So the bottom line is that a true follower of Lord Jesus Christ will be transformed and will give up sinful activities.
Anyhow… The main point is we accept Lord Jesus Christ as the Son of God. And if his followers would actually follow him they would make great advancement on the spiritual path…

I am a Hindu and a believer in Krishna and have read the Bhagavad Gita (although most of it went over my head!) and a Christian friend of mine asked me the following question –
“If you have time I have a quick question – someone in India told me that the Bhagavan Gita refers to a man who will sacrifice himself for the cleansing of others. This particular man then went on to decide it was Jesus. Does this Hindi holy book have a referencing system like the bible? If you happen to know the reference I would like to know and read that section. I must spend some time examining the Bhagavan…”
Can you please tell me what I should tell my friend as I cant remember of reading of such a man in the Gita.

There are so many rascals telling us that Krishna is saying this in the Gita and Krishna is saying that. But usually what they say Krishna is saying is nothing at all like what Krishna is actually saying.
The easy way out here is to take a Bhagavad Gita to your friend and ask him to point out the chapter and verse where Krishna said that. And if he can not do that ask him to take the Bhagavad Gita home with him and get him to read the whole book to find the section about this man who will sacrifice himself for the cleansing of others, who I guess he thinks is Jesus who sacrificed himself on the cross for the sins of his followers. Of course there is nothing like this actually in the Bhagavad Gita. Bhagavad Gita is not about a man, it is a conversation between Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead and His friend Arjuna. It took place on the battlefield of Kuruksetra 5,000 years ago just before a huge battle.
So your friend’s interpretation of the Gita is completely bogus. And there are so many people out there with bogus interpretations on the Gita. And some of them publish translations on the Gita also and confuse so many readers.
Anyhow the main thing is if somehow you can get your friend to actually read Srila Prabhuapda’s Bhagavad Gita As It Is then he will see for himself what Bhagavad Gita is actually about.
That is the greatest give we can give people. Srila Prabhuapda’s books plus if we can also somehow encourage them to actually read the books. So this is an opportunity for book distribution. We should always have Srila Prabhuapda’s books with us so when these chances come up we can introduce the people we meet to Srila Prabhuapda and Krishna.
