During His Whole Life Lord Caitanya Induced People to Chant Hare Krishna

At His birth, in His childhood and in His early and later boyhood, as well as in His youth, Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu, under different pleas, induced people to chant the holy name of Hari [the Hare Krsna maha-mantra].

In His childhood, when the Lord was crying He would stop immediately upon hearing the holy names Krsna and Hari. During His pauganda age He became a serious student and also taught disciples. In this way He used to explain the holy name of Krsna everywhere.

When Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu was a student, He asked whomever He met to chant the Hare Krsna maha-mantra. In this way He inundated the whole town of Navadvipa with the chanting of Hare Krsna.

Just prior to His youthful life, He began the sankirtana movement. Day and night He used to dance in ecstasy with His devotees. The sankirtana movement went on from one part of the town to another, as the Lord wandered everywhere performing kirtana. In this way He inundated the whole world by distributing love of Godhead.

Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu lived in the Navadvipa area for twenty-four years, and He induced every person to chant the Hare Krsna maha-mantra and thus merge in love of Krsna. For His remaining twenty-four years, Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, after accepting the renounced order of life, stayed at Jagganatha Puri with His devotees. For six of these twenty-four years in Jagganatha Puri He distributed love of Godhead by always chanting and dancing. Beginning from Cape Comorin and extending through Bengal to Vrndavana, during these six years He toured all of India, chanting, dancing and distributing love of Krsna.

The activities of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu in His travels after He accepted sannyasa are His principal pastimes. His activities during His remaining eighteen years are called the antya-lila, or the final portion of His pastimes. For six of the eighteen years He continuously stayed in Jagganatha Puri, He regularly performed kirtana, inducing all the devotees to love Krsna simply by chanting and dancing. For the remaining twelve years He stayed in Jagganatha Puri, He taught everyone how to taste the transcendental mellow ecstasy of love of Krsna by tasting it Himself.

One may raise the question how all three worlds became inundated with love of Krsna, since Caitanya Mahaprabhu performed kirtana only in the Navadvipa area. The answer is that Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu is Krsna Himself. The entire cosmic manifestation results from the Lord’s first setting it in motion. Similarly, since the sankirtana movement was first set in motion five hundred years ago by Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s desire that it spread all over the universe, the Krsna consciousness movement, in continuity of that same motion, is now spreading all over the world, and in this way it will gradually spread all over the universe. With the spread of the Krsna consciousness movement, everyone will merge in an ocean of love of Krsna. (CC Adi-lila 13:22-38)

O most munificent incarnation! You are Krsna Himself appearing as Sri Krsna Caitanya Mahaprabhu. You have assumed the golden color of Srimati Radharani, and You are widely distributing pure love of Krsna. We offer our respectful obeisances unto You.

(Rupa Goswami CC Madhya-lila 19.54)

Hare Krishna! I write Hare Krishna on the first page of all my notebooks and books so when my students see it they chant Hare Krishna. Isn’t it a good idea? Can anybody suggest me something more?

    • Yes Prabhu writing Hare Krishna and your students reading Hare Krishna, it is very good idea. The idea is ante narayana smriti, the test is that we remember Narayana [Krishna] at the time of death. Because in Bhagavad-gita Krishna says, “Whoever remembers Me at the time of death will certainly come to Me.” So that is the whole point of Krishna consciousness. Death can come at any time, so we practice in such a way that we are remembering Krishna 24 hours a day so in that way no matter when death comes we will be chanting Hare Krishna and remembering Krishna and will will go back home, back to Godhead.

  3. Thomas simpson says:

The chanting of Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare is fulfilling when I am swayed to chant, more uplifting when I need to chant (inner turmoil). When I simply chant as an exercise of devotion, I miss the freedom which chanting in want or need bring.
Does this mean my devotion is impure, that I am still too attached to the material world ? Krishna delivers and extracts emotion, this place of indifference I fear I am failing to comprehend.

    • Hare Krishna Thomas

Yes. We are still impure, we are still too attached to the material world. So please keep on chanting Hare Krishna in every situation. Chant when you feel you need to chant and chant when you don’t feel like you need to chant. Actually Krishna and His names are non-different. So chanting Hare Krishna is directly associating with Krishna, there is such an unlimited ocean of pleasure in associating with Krishna, but because we are so sinful and so fallen we have no attachment for chanting the Hare Krishna mantra. So yes our devotion is impure and we are too attached to the material world. But the cure for this disease is chanting Hare Krishna.

That is why Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu introduced chanting Hare Krishna mantra with numerical strength. We have to force ourselves to chant at least 16 rounds of the Hare Krishna mantra every day, even if we don’t feel like chanting. It is easy to chant when we feel like chanting but a devotee will also chant 16 rounds when he does not feel like chanting, when he has no taste for chanting Hare Krishna.

So please take seriously chanting at least 16 rounds of the Hare Krishna mantra every day and strictly follow the four regulative principles: no illicit sex, no meat eating, no gambling and no intoxication and read Srila Prabhupada’s books at least 1-2 hours a day and you will make rapid advancement in Krishna consciousness for sure and gradually you will always feel like chanting Hare Krishna and always get great transcendental bliss from associating personally with Krishna in the form of His holy names.

Chant Hare Krishna and be happy!

    || Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna Hare Hare

Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare ||

Truly Maha-mantra is the best of all mantras and a way towards eternal peace and happiness. My life completely changed since I began chanting maha-mantra. Love.

  5. Mages says:

    How to control my mind?

    • This is not a one line answer.

Please study the books of Srila Prabhuapda and follow the instructions you find there. Then you will have no problems controlling your mind.

Chant Hare Krishna and be happy!

ALL GLORIES TO SHRILA PRABHUPADA FATHER I was thinking if i make series of 3d animation movies on life of sri sri chaitanya mahaprabhu in our studio will that please srila prabhupada??pls kindly reply

        • Hare Krishna Ananya

The problem is Krishna and Lord Caitanya can only be understood by pure devotees. The pastimes of Krishna and Lord Caitanya are confidential and that means when nondevotees read them they can not understand them but when pure devotees read them they can understand them.

So the depiction of the pastimes of Lord Krishna and Lord Caitanya can only be done by pure devotees. So if you yourself become an actual pure devotee of Krishna and all your team members become pure devotees of Krishna then it may be possible and your work may please Srila Prabhupada.

But realistically there were many offers to Srila Prabhupada by various persons to make films about the life of Krishna, etc, and Srila Prabhupada did not encourage it. Because they will mess it up. We have the practical experience in recent times of ISKCON Bangalore making Little Krishna which is really totally bogus. That cartoon character in ‘little Krishna’ is Not Krishna. Nothing at all like Krishna. They got Reliance and a team of non-devotee animators to do this and the result is not Krishna and really I do not think pleasing to Srila Prabhupada.

They do not even follow Prabhuapda’s Krsna book, it is full of so much bogus nonsense mixed up with correct things of course as well. But when you mix sand with the sweet rice it becomes impossible to eat any of it.

So I think realistically you and your team need to become pure devotees of Krishna before this would be possible to be done in such a way that it would please Srila Prabhupada. If it was done properly by pure devotees it would please Srila Prabhupada for sure but if it not done properly, which will certainly be the case if it is not done by pure devotees, then it will not please Srila Prabhupada…

Chant Hare Krishna and be happy!

            Hare Krishna Prabhu!
            Please accept my humble obeisances
            All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

Prabhu, after reading this comment of yours I’m not sure if I should continue to have Little Krishna in my phone anymore. I have downloaded this video and some children watch it and I encourage them to watch it because it is available on Krishnatube and Krishna Store but now after reading this comment of yours I don’t want to have it in my phone anymore. Should I delete it from my phone?

          • The problem is Little Krishna is the only thing there is. It is very disappointing. We sell it at KrishnaStore.com because there is nothing else. And it is better than any other video available. But overall I was so very disappointed with it…

    HARE-KRISHNA

Siksastaka-3.One should chant the holy name of the Lord in a humble state of mind, thinking oneself lower than the straw in the street; one should be more tolerant than a tree, devoid of all sense of false prestige, and ready to offer all respect to others. In such a state of mind one can chant the holy name of the Lord constantly.

CC: ADI:8-15.If you are indeed interested in logic and argument, kindly apply it to the mercy of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu. If you do so, you will find it to be strikingly wonderful.

CC.ADI:4-231-232-235-236.All these conclusions are unfit to disclose in public. But if they are not disclosed, no one will understand them.

Therefore I shall mention them, revealing only their essence, so that loving devotees will understand them but fools will not.
The camellike nondevotees cannot enter into these topics. Therefore there is special jubilation in my heart.

For fear of them I do not wish to speak, but if they do not understand, then what can be happier in all the three worlds?

    DANDAVATS.

  7. Nachiketh says:

    Namaste,

Hare Krishna ! In the Kali Santarana Upanishad, “Hare Rama” comes before “Hare Krishna”, but in Iskcon, “Hare Krishna” is chanted before “Hare Rama”. Can you please let me know the reason for this difference ?

    Regards,
    NAchiketh

it doesn’t matter if you say Hare Rama first or Hare Krishna, both words are sound incarnation of supreme lord Krishna and if you chant hare Rama first or Hare Krishna first the result will be the same!!
