Ramesvara 1981 Interview on History of ISKCON — Full Text

Hari Krishna
All Glories to Srila Prabhupada

I tried to send a comment before but there was a glitch. If the comment did get theough it was incomplete, so here is the complete version. I feel a burning desire to spread the message of Krishna Consciousness but I don’t know how to do it. I did purchase some tracts “Krishna-The Reservoir of Pleasure” but they sit here still.

I am 56 years old and the other night I had a dream where Krishna appeared to me and told me I need to be doing more because the time is short. My time is short so I want to do as much as I can for my spiritual master who sacrificed so much to bring us the message of Krishna Consciouness.

I have been reluctant to hand out the tracts because I am not a memeber of ISKCON, I have no spiritual name, I have never been initiated, it’s like I have mo credentials, but this frame of mind has not been helpful and I was wondering if I’ve been wrong?

So my questions are, should I be handing out tracts? am I qualified? Is there something more suited for someone such as me. I actuall started chanting the Maha Mantra when I was 12 years old, but with no guidance I didn’t stick with it in a regualr way. I have been reading the books since that time too, but now I really study them.

It would be great if you could help.

Thank you and Haribol!

How to offer food to Krishna?

All glories to Srila Prabhupada!!!

Please accept my humble obeisances

I have a question about foods being offered, If I open a half gallon of milk and offer some of it, like a cup, then put it away, can I take another cup later on and offer it again? How about other supplies like yogurt? May we take a small quantity from a larger quantity and offer a small bit at a time? You said that once some part of something is offered then it all becomes prasadam does this only apply to prepared dishes or single ingredient items also?

Please forgive me if I am not explaining well.

Thank you, Haribol

The Real Goal of Yoga

All glories to Srila Prabhupada

I own my own business, a small janitorial company, I do all the work myself. In some ways it is really great because I earn more than minimum wage, can listen to Krishna conscious music and lectures while working and don’t have to associate with women or undesirable people. The down side is that I often don’t finish and get home until 2:00-3:00 am. What I am wondering is when I get home that late is it better to do aarti and devotions before I sleep or how should I work out the sleep time?

Thank you

Happiness is Not Possible Without Devotional Service

I read in the Srimad Bhagavatam that devotees who fall down or have do some other sinful things go to one of the Hellish planets after death, am I understanding this right?

The Mystery of Deity Worship

One more thing….

I called someone at the Seattle ISKCON yesterday to find out how to install Deities at home and they told me to call back later so I wondered if you might tell me how to install Deities properly.

Thank you

Hare Krishna Prabhu

I just ordered the Laddhu Gopal Deity. The post office accidently sent HIM to a desert place where there was only one post office and a lot of cattle ranches, no stores or anything. We got HIM back safely and I really love having HIM on my altar, but I haven’t found any prayers or instructions on worship. Someone gave me at the same time a smaller Laddu Gopal with a lot of outfits and fans and such but I don’t know how to dress HIM properly or what HE should wear on different days or such. I did find out which colors to use, but I would like further instructions. I have not been able to find out anything on the internet either. Thank you in advance.

Correcting ISKCON’s Guru System

All glories to Srila Prabhupada

My obeisances to you Prabhu.

I wrote an email to one of the ISKCON gurus named Mahatma Das. His answer surprised me. I have been a devotee for 46 years without initiation. I didn’t plan it that way I just always lived too far from a temple, I visited whenever I could. I lived at Hansadutta’s farm in Cal. for a short time and at both the Berkeley temple and the Portland Oregon temple. There were things going on at all these places that frightened me, so I left and practice on my own.

Recently I got to wondering if that was alright that I’ve avoided formal initiation, that’s why I wrote to Mahatma Das. He told me that Srila Prabhupada is and always will be my guru and that no initiation would ever change that. He basically told me it wasn’t necessary and that Srila Prabhupada will continue to guide me. He told me I just wouldn’t be able to take another guru.

He’s right Srila Prabhupada is the only guru I need or will ever need. I have read his books almost every day of the 46 years since I found them. They continue to live in and with me. I have read other spiritual books but no one writes better than my loving master Srila Prabhupada. His books are living and they continue to teach me.

Than you so much for all the work you do. I love the original copies of the books.

Slow Motion Astronauts on the Moon?

I don’t think the multibillion dollar space program would fake the moon landing. I think you just don’t want to accept that the little human race is growing up and can develope techknowledgy that can get them somewhere other than earth. There is no conspiracy, the moon landing is real, and there is plenty of proof.

Just What is the Bhagavad Gita?

Hi Madhudvisa,

Thank you so much for the newsletters to date.

I’m really enjoying them.

I’m 51 years old, and and after some years with Buddhism, I found that it was a little too austere for me, and I wanted to return to Krishna.

I’m glad to be back and am feeling the immediate benefits.

I live in Austrlalia but have never been to a temple, although have attended quite a lot of Kirtan.

The letters are helping greatly with reassurance of Krishna.

  1. Govind says:

    Hare krishna Prabhuji.,Dandvat Pranaam
May i know about the author of the book”Srila Prabhupada Lilamrita As It Is” named mukund das prabhu.Had he any personal association with Srila Prabhupada.

    • This book is a compilation of direct quotes from Srila Prabhupada speaking about his own life. The author is Srila Prabhuapda, all Mukunda did was compile the quotes and he did a good job of it. He wrote a bit of rubbish on the last 2 pages but apart from that he did not write a single word in the book. It is a collection of Prabhupada quotes and the author of this book is Srila Prabhuapda.

  2. Vamshi says:

Prabhu Madhudvisa Dasa.Is Jagannath Krishna himself or is just an expansion of Krishna like Vishnu,Rama etc.In Iskcon lectures I heard that Jagannath is Krishna himself, they have proved this by saying a story from Skanda purana. Is this true or Iskcon lectures are just bogus?I found no video Prabhupad talking aboyt Lord Jagannath.Oh Prabhu kindly answer my doubts.Hare Krishna

    • Yes. Lord Jagannatah is Krishna Himself. It is Jagannatha [Krishna] Balarama and Krishna’s sister Subhadra.

So Jagannatha is deity form of Krishna. He is representation of Krishna with His brother Balarama and sister Subhadra,

It is deity manifestation of Krishna, Balarama and Lady Subhadra,

    Jai Govind

I request you clear my doubts.I understand the complexities of life processes, cellular mechanisms and other natural phenomenon cannot be explained solely by reasoning and scientific theories as somewhere or other our knowledge is limited.I am a science student nd nature lover. After reading the article posted by you regarding the concept of the origin of life,a question arisen in my mind that krishna is all powerful, then, why he designed this universe in this complicated way?,why life originated? why he made all that dna etc matter space?what is his true nature? why are we given these bodies these reasoning abilities?why krishna waited for billions of years and made us take birth here?why prakrati and purush got seperated? who were those dinosaurs etc for souls are eternal were those dinosaurs primitive and other organisms we only? are there any planet lest earth having life?why will happen atlast for we are ultimately destined to reach our eternal govind? why doesn’t he appears now and clear all these doubts for one thing is sure that if even he messages in some ways we will submit to him?why krishna is so naughty why has he made everything complicated?I know these are childlish questions but still worthy to be answered…..

I am a krishana devotee.I feel as if there is pure love for him deep in my heart. But at the same time I do believe in science.Sometimes i find myself stuck in between science emotions belief and devotion.I want to understand my Govind,I want to understand myself.

I request my friends to please give answer to these questions.I hope i will get atleast answers of a few questions as i found this site quite appealing.

    Radhe krishna

    • Hare Krishna Jai Govind

To clear your doubts you have to become Krishna conscious. Because unless you become Krishna conscious you will not be able to understand what Krishna consciousness is and you will remain continually bewildered.

All these questions are irrelevant. You seem to accept that Govinda exists, that He is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Now you have to just surrender to the idea that you are His servant. And then you need to find out practically how you can engage in the service of Krishna. And to find out how to do this you need to read Srila Prabhupada’s books. And in the process of becoming Krishna conscious all your other questions will automatically be answered.

The scientists can not understand anything. They only have very fragmental information about everything they study. The information we can gather through our material senses is very limited. There are so many things we can not perceive through our material senses. So they can not understand what they can not perceive.

So instead of just speculating all these questions and being bewildered like this it is better to just admit that in our conditioned state with our very limited mind and our material senses we can not hope to understand Krishna or even this material world which is created ultimately by Krishna.

The way to understand these things is to become Krishna conscious. We can not understand without becoming Krishna conscious.

So you have to learn how to become Krishna conscious… That is the answer to all your questions. And Krishna consciousness is a science and that science is very elaborately presented in the books of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.

Chant Hare Krishna and be happy!

      Madhudvisa dasa
