Visit Vrindavan — Land of Krishna — More than 40 Years Ago!

Today it is very difficult for us to visit the holy places of pilgrimage. Now this film, Vrindavan, the Land of Krishna, now digitally restored, providing us with a clearer vision of Vrindavan than ever before, has come at the perfect moment.

Now we can get the darsana of Vrindavan and all the important Deities of Vrindavan from our homes. For me watching this film has been a very uplifting and inspiring experience. I have seen Vrindavan, the Land of Krishna, actually, hundreds of times before. But now, for me, it is so much better than every before. So even if you have seen this film before please watch it again now.

Vrindavan is the holy village in India where, five thousand years ago, Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead took birth. Actually Krishna took birth in Mathura, which is a big city, in the Palace of King Kamsa. King Kamsa was a demon and had heard an omen that Krishna was destined to kill him. So Kamsa was very anxious to kill Krishna, before Krishna got a chance to kill him.

Because of the danger to Krishna from King Kamsa Vasudeva, the father of Krishna, in the dead of the night, took baby Krishna to the nearby village of Vrindavan and exchanged Him with the daughter of Nanda Maharaja and Yasoda, the king and queen of the Vrindavan village, who had also just been born at the same time as Krishna.

In this way Krishna was hidden in the village of Vrindavan and spent His childhood there playing with His cowherd boyfriends and the gopis, the transcendental milkmaids of Vrindavan.

Krishna’s childhood was a very, very enjoyable time for all the residents of Vrindavan. Because Krishna was living with them in very intimate relationships as son, friend, and even lover, they were all feeling great transcendental ecstasy due to their relationships with Krishna.

It was not only the human residents of Vrindavan who experienced intense loving relationships with Krishna. All the living entities in Vrindavan experienced great pleasure due to their association with Krishna.

The cows, the trees, the grass, all the living entities in Vrindavan, are associating with and serving Krishna in their own ways. The cows are providing the milk that Krishna so much enjoys, the trees are producting so many beautiful flowers and delicious fruits that are offered to Krishna for the pleasure of Krishna. The grass is providing a very soft and comfortable covering on the ground of Vrindavan for Krishna to walk on. The grass is also providing sumptuous food for Krishna’s cows.

All the residents of Vrindavan are so much in love with Krishna and they all have their own individual and personal loving service relationships with Krishna giving them great transcendental joy.

More than forty years ago Yadubara Prabhu and his wife Mother Vishaka devi dasi travelled to Vrindvan in the hopes of uncovering this spiritual Vrindavan and revealing it to the world in the form of a film produced by ISKCON Cinema, Vrindavan, the Land of Krishna.

The film captures the mood of Vrindavan more than forty years ago. It is a beautiful film, and now, thanks to modern AI technology it is presented so clearly and beautifully that it is truly a wonderful experience to watch Vrindavan, the Land of Krishna. Please watch it now.

About the Author

My first contact with a Hare Krishna was a most merciful Mataji in Oxford Street, London who sold me a "Higher Taste" cook book in 1984 while I was on holidays there. I started seriously reading Srila Prabhupada's books in Australia 1985 and by 1986 Srila Prabhupada had convinced me "Krishna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead" and "we should surrender to Krishna." I joined the Hare Krishnas in Perth, Western Australia in 1986. Since then I have been chanting Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare, reading and distributing Srila Prabhupada's books and preaching as much as I can. That's my life and full-time occupation now really. I like it more than anything I've ever experienced before. Srila Prabhupada's books are so amazing... Even after reading them all many times they're still fresh and new. They are truly transcendental! That's it really. Now I'm just hankering to once again see the world chant Hare Krishna, dance and feast and float away in the ecstasy of Lord Caitanya's Sankirtana movement as it did in Srila Prabhupada's physical presence. Let the whole world drown in the ecstatic flood of love of Krishna!
