Who Is God?

There are a variety of names which the scriptures of many religions present as names of God. There are also many conceptions of God ranging from one of a formless spirit to that of an old man with a beard sitting on a throne.

According to the Vedic literature, amongst the unlimited names of God the principle name is Krishna which means “all attractive”. The original all blissful form of God is the fountainhead of all incarnations such as Lord Jesus Christ and Lord Buddha.

Krishna is the father of whom Lord Jesus spoke of. Interestingly the word “Christian” comes from Krishna.

As a child is given the last name of the father, Jesus was given the last name Christ of which the original Greek/Aramaic pronunciation is “Khristos”.

If one endeavors to make an indepth study of early Christianity and it’s pure original teachings they will find the connection between the teachings of Lord Jesus and the Vedic truths. One can thus understand that Lord Krishna is the Supreme Godhead. Lord Krishna states in Bhagavad Gita that He is the master of all planets and demigods: “The sages, knowing Me as the ultimate purpose of all sacrifices and austerities, the Supreme Lord of all planets and demigods and the benefactor and well wisher of all living entities, attain peace from the pangs of material miseries.” (Bhagavad Gita verse 5.29)

Why good people suffer in this kali yuga? Who is responsible for our sufferings?

    Kindly clarify

    Your servant

It is very hard to find anyone in the material world who is ‘good’. This material world is like a prison and the criminals are sent here. The good people do not come here. Because we are here in the material world we can understand that we are not good. Rather we have decided that we do not actually want to be a servant of Krishna, but we want to become the master ourselves. So this is rejecting Krishna, it is not good. If we did not reject Krishna we would not be here in the material world. So you are not really going to find good people in the material world.

We have all rejected Krishna and we have all had unlimited lifetimes full of sinful activities so we suffer because of this. We suffer because we have rejected Krishna, we suffer because we do not want to surrender to Krishna and serve Krishna, but instead want to be the master ourselves and get others to serve us, and we suffer as a result of all the sinful activities we have performed in this life and in previous lives.

You need to wake up and realize that this material world is a place of suffering. We come here to the material world to suffer. That is the purpose. A thoughtful person after so many lifetimes of suffering in the material world may come to the conclusion that he can not be happy separately from Krishna and then he may surrender to Krishna and go back home back to Godhead. That is really the purpose of the material world. We come here and we suffer until we finally realize this is not our home and we can not be happy here.

The suffering is because it is our eternal constitutional position to serve Krishna. We are ‘nitya krishna das’, we are eternal servants of Krishna. That is what we are supposed to be doing, serving Krishna, and the only way we can ever be happy is by serving Krishna. We do not belong in the material world, the material world is not our home, the material world where everything is temporary, full of anxiety and full of ignorance is exactly the opposite of our real nature. We, the soul, are sat-cit-ananda vigraha. We are eternal, we have full knowledge, we are full of ever-increasing transcendental bliss, and we have an eternally youthful spiritual form. That is our real nature. So how can we expect to be happy in the material world trapped in a material body that gets old, gets sick and dies and is full of ignorance and anxiety. The material world is exactly the opposite to what we really are. We can never be happy here.

So we are responsible for our own suffering. You can not put the blame for your suffering on to anyone else. You are suffering as a result of misusing your independence and serving maya instead of serving Krishna. You are responsible for the reactions to all sinful activities you have performed in this life and all your previous lives.

Of course everything can be changed when we become Krishna conscious… So that is the idea. We have to become Krishna conscious. There is absolutely no use of trying to be happy in the material world… It is impossible.

Chant Hare Krishna and be happy!

    • Hare Krishna…

You should become Krishna consciousness. That is the solution to all problems. These other things are not important in the long run. So chant the Hare Krishna mantra at least 16 rounds a day, follow the four regulative principles (no illicit sex, no meat eating, no gambling and no intoxication) and seriously read all of Srila Prabhupada’s books. That is my advice. If you do this gradually everything will become clear and you will know exactly what to do…

Chant Hare Krishna and be happy!

I suggest you study Bhagavad-gita As It Is:

      http://www.AsItIs.com

Krishna is constantly declaring that He is the cause of all causes.

But you know Krishna is only one of His names. He has many names: Govinda, Kesava, Madhava, Gopala, Devaki-Nandana, Yasoda-nandana, Partha-sarathi… Also there are many Visnu forms who are non-different from Him. The universe is coming from Maha-Visnu. And Maha-Visnu is ultimately an expansion of Krishna.

In other countries the same Krishna is referred to by other names like Allah, Jehovah, Yarway, God, etc.

So God has many names, Krishna is one of these names. Krishna is a very perfect name for God. But there are many other names and all the authorized names are referring to the same God, Krishna or his Visnu-Tattva expansions.

Chant Hare Krishna and be happy!

I study in a convent school and do know a few of the preachings of Christ. Inspite of that, I had never been able to connect them with those of Krsna. This is so awakening and insightful. Thank you SO much!

    Hare Krsna! 🙂

    Hari Om
This is a very interesting article you have written.
    The problem is this.

When you quote scriptures, you must always say EXACTLY where the quoted scripture is taken from. Saying that according the vedic literature means very little to us.

Your TV program is the same, No chapter and no verse. You must quote the following.

    The book.
    The Chapter.
    The verse.

By doing this we can go to the quotation and read it for ourself.and in this way we will grow deeper in faith, and have a deeper understanding of the subject matter.

    Hari Om,
    Vivekananda
