7Raising Krishna Conscious Kids
Raising Krishna Conscious Kids
What a challenge, huh? Raising Krishna Conscious children has tested many. From observation of many devotee parents raising kids, I have come to see that being too extreme does not work if you want to raise balanced, Krishna Conscious children.
There is a famous saying, about tuning a musical instrument. It goes something like this: “If the string is not tight enough, it will not play. If you tighten it too much, it will snap.
”
This can be analogous to many things in life, including raising children.
One nice way to raise children with Krishna, in a way they will appreciate, is to read Krishna Conscious story books with them, or even watch Krishna Conscious movies with them.
Krishna Conscious Videos
There are many Krishna Conscious videos suitable for kids. Some of these movies are actually really nice to watch, even for adults.
Little Krishna
One nice set of DVDs is the Little Krishna DVDs. It is a high-budget production made by Big Animation / Reliance, in connection with devotees at ISKCON Bangalore. It is a very well-done animation, with loveable characters (of course!). From the mischievous Krishna stealing butter with his friends and the monkeys, to epic battle scenes with Krishna delivering justice to demons in self-defense, there are many cool scenes from the sweet to the awesome, from the fun to the funny, from the tear-jerking to the breathtaking.
Animated Ramayana – Warrior Prince
The Animated Ramayana is a classic. Many second generation devotees recall watching this movie many times, over and over again, as they grew up.
It is a $12 million dollar project. The animation style is a fusion style, consisting of 3 different schools of animation: Manga from Japan, Disney from the USA and Ravi Varma from India. The Warrior Prince is directed and conceived by Japanese master filmmaker Yugo Sako.
It is a pretty action packed movie, with many battle scenes.
Krishna Conscious Books for Children
There are many Krishna Conscious Story Books for children available. Here’s a couple for example:
Damodara – Glorified for Stealing Butter
This 31-page story book for children has lots of pictures and big text. It is the story of Damodara. Krishna’s is named Damodara for his pastimes of stealing butter and being caught by Mother Yasoda, who tied Krishna up with a rope around his belly. This is a beautiful story that shows the love between mother and son, and Krishna and his devotees.
Dhruva – the Star Devotee
This is the story of Dhruva. Dhruva is a prime example of a Vaishnava. From hearing about him, one can learn much about what it means to be a devotee of Krishna or Vishnu.
These are just some examples of fun ways to introduce your child to Krishna. Reading these stories and watching the videos can be an endearing experience.
Hare Krishna prabhu,
i am connected with Krishna consciousness, since 2 years but now i am getting a feeling that i am not able to do it so beautifully and with such concentration ,i think i am losing all hope ,please help me over this .i tried to read bhagwat geeta, but i didn’t get the answers
please suggest me some remedies for this disturbed mind
thank you prabhu ,
hare Krishna
Hare Krishna
The remedy is always the same, chant at least 16 rounds of the Hare Krishna mantra every day, strictly follow the four regulative principles: no illicit sex, no meat eating, no gambling and no intoxication and read Srila Prabhupada’s books at least 1-2 hours per day. If you actually follow this program you will get all the answers you are looking for and more and your mind will become peaceful and ecstatic in the service of Srila Prabhupada and Krishna.
The problem is most people refuse to follow these things so they do not experience Krishna consciousness…
Its true Prabhu, I was a perfect example of that, especially after reading 2 hours a day. But I stopped reading and my life crumbled, got married, had to compromised all my spiritual values and lifestyle. Now at my old age I crave to return to Mayapur/Nabadwip and dedicate myself to nam bhajan, study sastra, sadhu sandha, writing…. but no means to do so. One little mistake caused so much havoc. Razor’s edge
Yes. But you don’t have to go to Mayapur to become Krishna conscious. You can do it anywhere. Chant Hare Krishna and read Prabhupada’s books and make the place you are now into Vrindavan.
Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna Hare Hare!
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare!
Jai Shri Krishna,
Rightly said raising a kid into Krishna conscious environment is the most powerful Bhakti for a devotee parents. Being mother of three year old son, I believe my prime duty is to develop love for Lord Krishna in my son. This can be developed by following:
1. Ask questions to your son once in a while at apt time “Who created mummy, papa or plants, who gives rain or food etc.?” When my little one answers “Krishna” I feel overwhelmed.
2. When he demands something may it be chocolate, television, toy- tell him to ask the same from Krishna Diety at your home. So that he understand that everything that we get is mercy from Krishna.
3. When you buy him anything new; a toy or cloths, tell him first to say thanks to Krishna then open it.
I can relate a funny incidence that happened lately. Once my son had demanded a rocket toy which of course was delegated to Lord Krishna. But somehow we forgot to fulfil his demand. After few days when we told him to bow down to feet of Lord Krishna in temple and say thank you for everything. He said ” Thank you God, but where is my toy?”
pls turn the churches into temples throught out the world, hare krishna
