The Ten Offenses in Chanting the Hare Krishna Mantra

What an amazing article Madhudvisa Prabhu. I wish I read this article 8 years back when I was totally confused by some Iskcon devotees behavior who were chanting 16 rounds at that time but were so far from knowledge and Vaisnava behavior revealed in Srila Prabhupada’s books. Chanting Hare Krishna Maha mantra isn’t a a cheap thing. We have to work hard to overcome our offenses. The greatest offense many Iskcon devotees do is to think that Srila Prabhupada is gone. He isn’t living in his books. He can’t guide future devotees through his divine Vani. This is the greatest offense they do and that’s why their chanting is not showing the desired result of chanting Hare Krishna Maha mantra. They used to ask me to chant 16 rounds and don’t focus too much on reading Srila Prabhupada books as I won’t understand them without a guru from Iskcon.

“The Hare Krishna mantra has the power to connect us with an ever-increasing ocean of transcendental pleasure. On the other hand one can chant the Hare Krishna mantra for many, many births and not achieve any significant results at all. Why?” I got my answer now. Thank you Madhudvisa Prabhu. Please keep on writing these amazing articles to guide fallen souls like me as I sincerely want to go back to Lord Krishna this life time.

The Importance of Sense Control in Spiritual Life

Dear Madhudvisa Prabhu, thank you for sending me these wonderful newsletters. They’re full of knowledge & spiritual wisdom. They are so simple to understand, effective and they wonderfully sums up the divine knowledge found in Srila Prabhupada’s books. I wish you to continue writing these newsletters and serving Srila Prabhupada forever.

I have no words to describe the spiritual power that lies in Srila Prabhupada books and lectures. I request every devotee here to read sincerely Srila Prabhupada books and lectures everyday with enthusiasm. Srila Prabhupada’s books and lectures are no ordinary thing. They are the greatest source of all inspiration coming directly from the Supreme Lord Himself. Please read them with enthusiasm daily. Also, nothing is easy without hard work and determination. Working hard for Lord Krishna keeps our mind & senses engaged. As the saying goes “An empty brain is a devils workshop”. This is so true. So, please be engaged in Lord Krishna’s service every moment. Don’t be lazy. Work hard for Lord Krishna’s pleasure and not for yourself. Let Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Krishna be your Boss, your Friend, your Mother, your Father, your Master, the only Enjoyer of all your activities daily. And please avoid non-devotees association strictly (idiot box-Tv, Newspapers,Internet sap our spiritual strength and desire to cultivate spiritual Knowledge). Above all chant Hare Krishna mahamantra. These things will really help to control the senses from my experience. Once again thanks to Madhudvisa Prabhu to write these amazing newsletters and sending them to my mailbox. I simply love them. Hare Krishna!

Human Life is not for working hard like animals

A very nice article by Madhudvisa Prabhu. Yes! even I was told the same thing by everyone including my parents in India that Bhagawad Gita is an inspiration for working hard. It was only by the mercy of Srila Prabhupada books, lectures and Caitya guru that I understood what Lord Krishna actually is saying in Bhagawad Gita. Many Indians have totally misunderstood the message of Bhagawad Gita. The message of Bhagwad Gita is not to do our work nicely and later enjoy our senses like animals, but to surrender to Lord Krishna, become his pure devotees and return back to the original spiritual world, our real home, Kingdom of Godhead.

Yes! Arjuna did his fighting, but he fought for Lord Krishna’s benefit only. If we have to work hard, it should be only for Lord Krishna’s service and not for our sense-gratification. Generally the so called followers of Bhagawad Gita want to work hard and later engage themselves in petty sense-gratification. They employ the results of their work in mundane sense pleasures of material world and not for Supreme Lord’s service. This is a great misunderstanding. After understanding Bhagawad Gita, Arjuna fought with great enthusiasm for Lord krishna, but he never fought for his sense enjoyment. For his sense enjoyment, he didn’t wanted to fight or work hard. But when he understood that Lord Krishna desires this great battle, he fought and employed his fighting skills for Lord Krishna’s service. And thus his fighting became devotional service. He was fully surrendered to Lord Krishna. He was a pure devotee. Lord Krishna is asking all the living entities to understand that this material world is a temporary place, full of miseries like birth, death old age and disease, and by working hard like a donkey here our problems won’t be solved anytime.

BG 8.15: After attaining Me, the great souls, who are yogīs in devotion, never return to this temporary world, which is full of miseries, because they have attained the highest perfection.

BG 8.16: From the highest planet in the material world down to the lowest, all are places of misery wherein repeated birth and death take place. But one who attains to My abode, O son of Kuntī, never takes birth again.

There is another world, spiritual Kingdom free from the dimension of material time and space. Lord Krishna describes about it in Bhagawad Gita and all the important Vedic texts like Srimad Bhagawatam, Brahma Samhita, Mahabharata, Isopanisad etc speak about it.

That spiritual sky is full of trillions & trillions of spiritual Vaikuntha planets where Lord Krishna resides in His different Visnu tattva expansions with trillions and trillions of pure living entities is our original home. That spiritual sky is eternal, full of knowledge and joy. There is no suffering there whatsoever. That is our ultimate destination.

“That abode of Mine is not illumined by the Sun, Moon, or Fire, one who goes there never returns to this material world.” (Bhagavad Gita 15th chapter)

“Yet there is another unmanifest nature, which is eternal and is transcendental to this manifested and unmanifested matter. It is supreme and is never annihilated. When all in this world is annihilated, that part remains as it is.” (Bhagavad Gita 8th chapter)

“One who knows the transcendental nature of My appearance and activities does not, upon leaving the body, take his birth again in this material world, but attains My eternal abode, O Arjuna.” (Bhagavad Gita 4th chapter)

So, we should actually understand the message of Bhwagad Gita is to surrender to God, Lord Sri Krishna and to learn to work in such a way that we can remember Him constantly or else our nice worldly duties will simply bind us more in the dangerous repeated cycle of birth and death.

G 9.27: Whatever you do, whatever you eat, whatever you offer or give away, and whatever austerities you perform — do that, O son of Kuntī, as an offering to Me.

BG 9.34: Engage your mind always in thinking of Me, become My devotee, offer obeisances to Me and worship Me. Being completely absorbed in Me, surely you will come to Me.

Just like Arjuna used his fighting skills for Supreme Lord Krishna’s service, we also have got our respective skills given to us by Supreme Lord and we can employ them in Gods service. Only then our desire to work hard and do our duties nicely will help us to get out from this temporary, miserable material world and return to the eternal & blissfull Kingdom of Godhead.

Yes! we don’t have to stop working. Lord Krishna never asks that, but we don’t have to work like animals simply for nice eating, nice mating, nice sleeping an nice defending. We have to work for Lord Krishna, we have to remember Supreme Lord Krishna as the only proprietor and only enjoyer while doing our worldly works. He should always be in our mind while we do our worldly works nicely. How it will be possible? By making a fixed program of hearing, chanting, worshiping, remembering Lord, reading and understanding Srila Prabhupada books daily we will be able to remember Lord Krishna while engaged in our worldly works nicely.

BG 11.55: My dear Arjuna, he who engages in My pure devotional service, free from the contaminations of fruitive activities and mental speculation, he who works for Me, who makes Me the supreme goal of his life, and who is friendly to every living being — he certainly comes to Me.

BG 9.34: Engage your mind always in thinking of Me, become My devotee, offer obeisances to Me and worship Me. Being completely absorbed in Me, surely you will come to Me.

Hare Krishna!

  1. Govind says:

    Hare krishna Prabhuji.,Dandvat Pranaam
May i know about the author of the book”Srila Prabhupada Lilamrita As It Is” named mukund das prabhu.Had he any personal association with Srila Prabhupada.

    • This book is a compilation of direct quotes from Srila Prabhupada speaking about his own life. The author is Srila Prabhuapda, all Mukunda did was compile the quotes and he did a good job of it. He wrote a bit of rubbish on the last 2 pages but apart from that he did not write a single word in the book. It is a collection of Prabhupada quotes and the author of this book is Srila Prabhuapda.

  2. Vamshi says:

Prabhu Madhudvisa Dasa.Is Jagannath Krishna himself or is just an expansion of Krishna like Vishnu,Rama etc.In Iskcon lectures I heard that Jagannath is Krishna himself, they have proved this by saying a story from Skanda purana. Is this true or Iskcon lectures are just bogus?I found no video Prabhupad talking aboyt Lord Jagannath.Oh Prabhu kindly answer my doubts.Hare Krishna

    • Yes. Lord Jagannatah is Krishna Himself. It is Jagannatha [Krishna] Balarama and Krishna’s sister Subhadra.

So Jagannatha is deity form of Krishna. He is representation of Krishna with His brother Balarama and sister Subhadra,

It is deity manifestation of Krishna, Balarama and Lady Subhadra,

    Jai Govind

I request you clear my doubts.I understand the complexities of life processes, cellular mechanisms and other natural phenomenon cannot be explained solely by reasoning and scientific theories as somewhere or other our knowledge is limited.I am a science student nd nature lover. After reading the article posted by you regarding the concept of the origin of life,a question arisen in my mind that krishna is all powerful, then, why he designed this universe in this complicated way?,why life originated? why he made all that dna etc matter space?what is his true nature? why are we given these bodies these reasoning abilities?why krishna waited for billions of years and made us take birth here?why prakrati and purush got seperated? who were those dinosaurs etc for souls are eternal were those dinosaurs primitive and other organisms we only? are there any planet lest earth having life?why will happen atlast for we are ultimately destined to reach our eternal govind? why doesn’t he appears now and clear all these doubts for one thing is sure that if even he messages in some ways we will submit to him?why krishna is so naughty why has he made everything complicated?I know these are childlish questions but still worthy to be answered…..

I am a krishana devotee.I feel as if there is pure love for him deep in my heart. But at the same time I do believe in science.Sometimes i find myself stuck in between science emotions belief and devotion.I want to understand my Govind,I want to understand myself.

I request my friends to please give answer to these questions.I hope i will get atleast answers of a few questions as i found this site quite appealing.

    Radhe krishna

    • Hare Krishna Jai Govind

To clear your doubts you have to become Krishna conscious. Because unless you become Krishna conscious you will not be able to understand what Krishna consciousness is and you will remain continually bewildered.

All these questions are irrelevant. You seem to accept that Govinda exists, that He is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Now you have to just surrender to the idea that you are His servant. And then you need to find out practically how you can engage in the service of Krishna. And to find out how to do this you need to read Srila Prabhupada’s books. And in the process of becoming Krishna conscious all your other questions will automatically be answered.

The scientists can not understand anything. They only have very fragmental information about everything they study. The information we can gather through our material senses is very limited. There are so many things we can not perceive through our material senses. So they can not understand what they can not perceive.

So instead of just speculating all these questions and being bewildered like this it is better to just admit that in our conditioned state with our very limited mind and our material senses we can not hope to understand Krishna or even this material world which is created ultimately by Krishna.

The way to understand these things is to become Krishna conscious. We can not understand without becoming Krishna conscious.

So you have to learn how to become Krishna conscious… That is the answer to all your questions. And Krishna consciousness is a science and that science is very elaborately presented in the books of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.

Chant Hare Krishna and be happy!

      Madhudvisa dasa
