I am in high school and have been reading his divine grace’s books for the past 2 years now and I used to chant 16 rounds somehow or another but for the past 6 months I have only been able to do 2 rounds a day as I have a lot of homework and am trying to get into a good college. Please help me to do something because I have no time. Will it be fine if I am multitasking my chanting and something else? Thanks

Actually Earth is definitely round in shape. We should also know that Vedas also talk of a round earth, because some of the old sculptings of Sri Varahaswamy (The Varaha Avatara), in India shows Him lifting a round earth. This means that everyone in India back then somehow or other accepted the round earth.

Hare Krishna Prabhu,
Please accept my obeisances.
I recently came across a video, where two persons were performing kirtan in a bar, where they try to attract people who were intoxicated with liquor. It is actually a short film and in the end, they convinced some people in that intoxicated state that chanting Hare Krishna is the highest pleasure (which seemed completely artificial, as it was just a short movie)
I got really disappointed seeing that film. The kirtan they were doing was mostly like a rock music. They were also using some heavy rock guitar and drums and all those rock music stuff for kirtan. They also sang the panca-tattva mantra in a similar way.
First of all, is this type of kirtan necessary, Prabhu? It looked like they were totally missing the point and that their main motive was to gain popularity in that bar.
It was actually just a short film drama, and I don’t think it’s possible to attract people in that state. Did Srila Prabhupada mention anything about this type of kirtan?
P.S.: I am sorry if I have said something offensive.

PAMHO !AGTSP!Hare krishna Prabhu!
What you are saying Prabhu is that I should forget about getting some or any form of initiation in this very lifetime?
And here I was thinking sooner or later I will eventually find a guru and get myself initiated within Srila Prabhupada’s Branch of the big tree which is the Krishna Conciousness Movement!
What to do now?

As you have explained well, sometimes our interests are carried over from previous lives. Like music, art or career interests…
Is it also possible that we carry experiences and even close relationships from previous lifes as well?
Sometimes in life, it may seem that people hurt us without reason. I’ve heard that the relationships we hold in our life are there for a karmic reason. Wouldn’t understanding the past help us free our karmic debt towards that person and be able to fast track our journey towards Godliness?
Please excuse my ignorance,

Hare Krishna! Prabhu/Mataji,
I would like to make a strictly confidential and anonymous complaint based on the incident which happened to me personally on 30th, April, 2010 at your ISKCON Temple, Coimbatore. I was there from 1800hrs until closing time of the darshan, and befriended one Prabhu Vanagopal Das, aged 28 according to what he said, and he was manning the bookstore inside the temple premises near the sanctum sanctorum. I was in a confusion, and was talking to him for hours about how to overcome the temptations like smoking/drinking/meat after wearing Tulsi Mala. Since, I myself was doing all those things like smoking/drinking/meat/masturbation/illicit sex before wearing Tulsi Mala. He did give me advice, and counselling spiritually based on ISKCON vaishnava principles. He also did gave me a Chanting Mala for which I paid Rs.100/- and the balance I asked him to donate to the temple itself, for which he told me he had no change, and since the darshan was closed he would take the money himself and put the balance the other (next following) day, to which I had no objections and I said Ok.
Later, he asked me to give him a lift in my car to drop him off at Thadagam Road junction, which interlinks the road to Vadavalli from where he will take the bus to go to his residence. I agreed since its raining and on the way to my home. During the trip in the car, Prabhu Vanagopal Das was telling to me he have had Gay sexual intercourse last month with the Tulsi Mala and another time when he was sleeping when other guys did something sexually to him, and he still have the temptations, and he said even at this moment he feels the same, and the same to me as well, and he claimed to be initiated and also wearing a Tulsi Mala sticked to his throat. I clearly told him that, am not a gay, and am straight. He didnt do anything unsual, considering gay laws have become legal in India. He didnt advance on me either. He wanted a kiss from me it seems before alighting from the car, for which I declined, and he caressed my hair above my forehead and also told me that I am handsome looking. I am 26, just 2 years younger to him.
I wonder, how people like him are even allowed to enter the Temple? What impression does this create to fellow ISKCON believers and devotees? I would like to keep this complaint 100% anonymous and strictly confidential about not revealing my identity in public, nor do I want to make a legal complaint with the Police authorities.
I hope the concerned Prabhuji’s or Mataji’s in ISKCON Coimbatore Temple will look into this matter very seriously and ban the above-mentioned person from entering the Temple in the near future and also take necessary legal action if necessary.
He gave me his Cellphone No. which is 9940903942
Please look that justice is served, if not by legal (Police Authorities & Local Laws) but by temple administration atleast. Once again I would like to remind that let this be a one – off communication from my side and please treat this communication strictly confidential and anonymous. A kind reply is highly anticipated about the outcome. (end result taken).

the purpose of marriage is to beget children. So the concept of same-sex does not arise.I think sex-obsession has led the world to these wide-array things.looking into this we must avoid passionate things.doing tapsaya is only remedial measure mankind have.same-sex was existing and understanding it is important for normal population which is more than 95% of total population.avoid sex be human.
dont ruin your life with passionate things.gays exist it doesnot mean we have to turn like them.normal people don’t discourage them they are humans and one of us.its our moral duty to leave sex first and then tell others the harmful effects of sex.sex is itself an illusiory word today.tapasya is the right thing.hare krishna.

Hare Krishna Madhudvisa Prabhu!
You are saying that unnecessary sporting is also gambling. Fine, I can understand. But, what if the university or school in which we are studying forces us to play these sports?
This is in fact my case. We cannot artificially override the university’s rules, right? Also, they have a lot of sense gratifying activities. My desire is not to indulge in those activities, but I am being forced. So how to overcome these things?

When can we kill snake or cobras? Like in this case it was directly in the bathroom of Srila Prabhupada and hence was proper to kill it. But many times we wander around in forest or foliage and we encounter a snake or cobra or some other poisonous serpant. Also many of our temples are having farm lands where we encounter snakes in the area of our ashram or living quarters. Should we kill them or just allow them to go away to distant place?

hello friends !
I just came across this page, after going through from “top” to “bottom” of this page that includes the comments of all our fellows, i came across few links, which i would want to share with you all..Those, who are interested in gaining the information regardless their motives, can check these pages and decide for themselves. I believe in “Karma” and have deep faith in our ancient heritage, may be it mathematical, physics, chemistry, medicinal, astronomical…etc. I do object the offensive remarks on by someone stubborn, rigid, having no respect to people and surely has no ethical values. Seems like Jason has no education and just living in his own world.
They say “Beggars should not be choosers” so you should not be questioning what you have been given by us, u call is “zero”, “mathematical formulas”, “gravitational theory:Indians Knew the Laws of Gravity 500 Years Before Newton(follow link–http://news.iskcon.com/node/2721)”, “arithmetic”, “algebra”, “plane trigonometry”, “spherical trigonometry” “arthshastra:economics”, and many more to name…..
here are some links for those morons who leap before they think, i recon people should read these and give a serious thought and do their research…A word to the wise is enough.

Hare Krishna Tami,
I can understand that you are a teacher and have far more knowledge and understanding of students’ mentality than I can ever hope to possess. But I respectfully disagree. It is common knowledge that not any brain can master higher math. There are some gifted individuals who can solve these math within moments. Women are also among them. I agree that girls show more interest in language and humanities because its very similar to their psychology. It is a proven fact that girls and women generally have far more EQ(Emotional Quotient) than boys and men. Their brains are also built to handle the stress of handling children, most difficult task in the world according to me. A proper and simple observation can help them understand their own psychology and relate to the next person. They are also more understanding than men, so this gives them a dead obvious advantage. They can also be great sociologists since they’re victims to sexual abuse. I can’t vouch for any perfection in judging murders in general(i.e., murders the victims of which are both men and women). But a proper and genuine female sociologist can point out the reasons behind the danger that lurks around women.
This is where I disagree. There have been many female scientists and mathematicians who have gone a long way. They haven’t achieved any less than males have. For sure, these men and women are gifted, and so, they can handle math and science with ease. In general, men and women do go through a lot of stress handling these subjects. While I won’t say that all or many women have excelled in these fields, they surely have fared better than men. Whether its because the female mind is more, less or equally analytical is quite controversial. Though, it is obvious that women work harder than men. This may not necessarily because they show more interest, but their career opportunities are quite narrow compared to that of men. This is because, man’s physical advantage renders him more capable of physical labour, especially in the army. While women are given equal opportunities to join the army, the first preference is given to men. But this is not because of gender bias, its because the country’s defense mustn’t be hindered just for gender equality. Many boys my age had little stress in studies because they were confident that they could always join the army. Whereas women must work with their brains. But the problem with many women isn’t because they want equal rights, but because they refuse to take responsibility for their children. While each individual has different definitions of “real women”, according to me, a real woman is one who takes responsibility for her children properly and abstains from sinful activities. This is also applicable to men, but even more so on women because every child’s first teacher is their mother, and so, they must possess many good qualities. But these arguments don’t mean anything. We try to be faithful devotees to Lord Krishna, and He is Omnipresent, Omnipotent and the most intelligent of all, and He is the ultimate goal. So let us all just set aside these differences and worship the Lord.
Sorry for my bad english.

My point is, Prabhu, in the 20th century, men were far beyond demonic and treated women with much sadism. I won’t disagree that I’m an ardent movie-watcher and have watched movies where people go through such pain…but they’re just movies. Seeing it in reality is another thing. Really crumbles one’s heart to see a human being being treated with such monstrosity. This is because good people will suffer in Kali yug. The women were good back then, and so they suffered. Sadly, they have gone down in population and so many manipulative women are taking advantage of the stories of women who are ACTUALLY suffering to accomplish their own tasks. I can very well say that the feminists are doing the same with what kind of rights they demand for. They demand for rights like extra marital affairs. This will only make men hate women even more, and would start inflicting violence against women even more, and good men will be irritated by them and would refuse to protect women. So the ultimate sufferers are women only. Because they depend on men for protection, not vice versa. Man’s body is built to endure the evils of the outside world, but its not the same with women. What’s even more overwhelming is that everytime I read about a rape, they’d say “a sacrifice for the women of India”. How many more millions of women do they plan to sacrifice, pray tell? Its no exaggeration to say that they’ve only traded one demon for another. What I think is, its high time we stop arguing, in this senseless war, innocent people get hurt, especially women. We must start reading the Bhagavd gita and follow its teachings and finally, there will come the ideal world that feminism promises but never fulfills. Men must realise that they must be more caring towards women and once again start working with complete efficiency and take care of them like children, keep them comfortable and happy. They must be more patient and loving, tolerate small mistakes ’cause they’re humans too and start embracing their daughters too. This is because of kanya dhana, which means the offering of one’s daughter in marriage to a brahmin, which is very fruitful for one’s good karma. They must always keep them happy and teach them how to live as home makers and mothers, two very very important roles, mothers illuminate the house ye know, and ultimately their child’s character. And Women must realise that potraying “strong character” in entertainment and media is utter nonsense and must stop craving for it. They must rediscover their traditional roles and keep chanting the Lord’s name with their families. They’re beautiful when they’re in their true realm, because a woman is more prone to degradation in the outside world. They’ve shook their heads for this, saying men are only more prone ro degradation. Well, it took 5000 years for men to fall down to what they are today. They’ve been in the outside world longer, and have had their own share of troubles too. But it took them several millenium to become the monsters and perverts that they are today, whereas women have been around outside for like a 100 years, and already they’ve fallen down. The media and entertainment are already flawed, but still women are seamlessly adding fuel to fire by wearing minimal clothing in movies and they have these useless playboy magazines or something, where women pose without clothes. Isn’t that degrading? Many women have started to use sex as a gold mine, and its a fact that the government are investing millions in the production of abortion pills. Isn’t that degrading? Killing a baby, a life completely innocent to all the evils of the outside world and the biggest devotees…isn’t that degrading? They’ve found so many school girls pregnant…its said in the vedas that puberty is the stage where boys and girls get the urge and so, to keep the girl’s chastity she should be married before that. Now it doesn’t matter, when they get pregnant its out of sheer legitimacy and not by unscrupulous men. And a boy must be celibate and so he’s kept away from girls. But the fact that women are more prone to degradation must NEVER be used to exploit them or mock them, but as a reason to protect them. Sadly, the stupid men don’t see it these days, taking advantage of them for their own pleasure. They must suffer for that. Male chauvinists believe that women only exist to satisfy men’s lust. They’re far more than mere creatures to be objectified. They’re the mothers, a very stressful but a very important role, one that illuminates the attitude of the future generation. In their absence, the society will be what it is today, a post apocalyptic minefield. These things the stupid male chauvinists should stop and rediscover their traditional roles and give up on chauvinism. Women in turn must give up on feminism and become mothers once again and teach their children the appropriate things, and not male chauvinism and feminism. Both are useless, unnecessary setbacks for humanity. They must stop saying, “when you educate a man you educate an individual but when you educate a women you educate a society”. This is only said to make women keep fighting for a boundless cause. When women are given material education, they’ll wish to work alongside men, and it will influence other women, and again…post apocalyptic minefield. The only goal is to serve the Supreme, and be truly happy…

Hare Krishna Madhudvisa Das Prabhu
I’m in 50% agreement with your answer. Please forgive me if I offended you or said something wrong. Here are the things with which I disagree:
1. Let me give an example:
The field marshal in one particular army would be of better experience and a better tactician than those in the lower ranks, like a lieutenant. But its highly possible for a lieutenant of another army to be more experienced and more tactical than the field marshal in question, but he’s lieutenant because there is a better person than him for the field marshal rank. So given the particular environment its necessary for the field marshal to have the leading rank, and the lieutenant no matter how good he is must accept a better person than him as his superior to maintain proper authority.
So, its possible for one woman to be more efficient than one man, but again, there will be a man who’s more efficient than her. Its not like women are completely irrational or men are completely without emotions. This cycle will be repeated but the best at logic will be a man and the best person to raise a child will be a woman. Its true even now no matter how much propaganda is made to prove female superiority in logic. Most logical people in the world are men, and not only do men have the numbers, but their logical capacity is also more. This doesn’t mean that women are completely irrational, they are just less rational in comparison. Like you said about grey matter and white matter, its possible for one woman to have more of grey matter than one man and vice versa. Just that the topmost will be men. So the education system can’t entirely be blamed.
But I do agree that the so called feminists have done many wrong things. Its also true that their very foundation is wrong, because I hear them talking gender equality or female superiority. And again, they should check the statistics to see who is truly more or less logical. I’m using the word logical because these material stuff aren’t actually intelligence. True intelligence sprouts when one understands the truth: I am not this body I’m a soul. This means that everyone should rise above feminism AND male chauvenism. Even in the interview, Srila Prabhupada never used the word intelligence to refer to who has more brain power. Its simply logical thought not intelligence. Yes, he also said that women are less intelligent in the sense that it takes more time for them to accept the supreme truth. This can very well be proved these days, since I’ve heard of many devotee women who left iskcon just because of gender roles as preached by Krsna. I’ve also heard of devotee men who’ve left bhakti, but not as much as women have. There are also other things like how a woman is so conscious about her body and hair and stuff like that. So they simply have material attachment, and this is more common among women even these days when even men are materially attached. This is what Srila Prabhupada meant by less intelligence, which has nothing to do with logical thought. It should also be noted that Krsna said that he’s intelligence among women in BG 10.34. This statement again has been used by many feminists to preach female superiorty, but they must know that Krsna was referring to the feminine opulence Goddess Saraswati, among so many other feminine opulences like Goddess Lakshmi (goddess of wealth).
2. I disagree in the aspect that all of the cases where men abuse chaste wives are mere propaganda. I’ve been to many countries and men have ill treated their wives in spite of their being chaste. So the reason why the feminist movement was formed can be justified but what they pursue today cannot be. Its true, even the decent men were ill treated by their wives because of all these no fault divorce laws amd 0 tolerance. So, actually speaking, problem lies with both men AND women, and since this is the age of Kali, most of the people in this world will be nasty, and only a handful of them will be decent, no matter what community or gender. But I do agree that feminists have created propaganda in many aspects. I’ve heard many Hindu women saying that the Vedas actually preach gender equality, and it was so in the Vedic age, but since the women started to show superior efficiency in both physical and mental labour, men felt threatened and changed the contents of the Vedas to support their selfish views and suppressed and abused women. This is propaganda, because if it had been true, women would’ve lashed out right then as they did in the 20th century. Men started to get abusive right before this movement started, and thats not propaganda.
Thank you for bearing me

Please accept my humble obeisances.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada!
One thing needs to be clarified here. The article’s purpose here is not to develop hatred against women. The purpose is just to acknowledge the differences materially, and at the same time also realize that there is no difference in the spiritual platform.
After this press conference with Srila Prabhupada happened, Srila Prabhupada also clarifies this:
Brahmānanda: Actually, they are just feeling frustrated because it is a fact that woman has been exploited by the men. So now they want to counteract this.
Prabhupāda: No, we don’t say that woman should be exploited by men. We say the man should be responsible and give protection to woman.
Brahmānanda: But they feel so angry from the exploitation that they cannot accept that actually a man could protect them.
Prabhupāda: That is bad experience. But the ideal is different. Ideal is that man must be first-class and he must be responsible to take care of the woman, and she should be given all protection, all necessities. That is the duty of man. Just like father takes the charge of his daughter, similarly, husband should take charge of the woman. And similarly, elderly sons also took charge of the woman. The father never exploits the daughter. He gives all protection. That is the duty of the husband also. When she is grown up, she cannot remain under the protection of father. She is given, therefore, to a suitable boy to take charge. But the charge is the same, to give protection, all comforts. And because there is no first-class man to take charge of the woman, they are declaring independence. All the men are doing that. They keep girlfriend, make her pregnant, and go away, goes away.
Brahmānanda: In that sense we can say that the women are inferior, but the men also, they are not first-class.
Prabhupāda: That we also said, that there is no first-class men. So if there is first-class man, then whole question is solved.
Jagadīśa: The men are behaving just like dogs.
You can read the full conversation here. But this conversation has to be read patiently, with an open mind:
Some people misused Srila Prabhupada’s quotes and exploited women, but those people are actually demons in the guise of disciples, though they may claim to be Prabhupada’s disciples.

Hare Krishna Madhudvisa Prabhu!
Please accept my humble obeisances.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada!
I understand that men and women are equal spiritually, but materially the differences have to be acknowledged, for the proper function of the society.
So, I have doubts on the following points:
1) To prove that women and men are equal materially, people cite examples of women such as Marie Curie, Rosalind Franklin, etc. So they say that these women are intelligent than men.
2)There is also another problem now. It is about women’s clothing. It has become a fashion today for the women to wear mini dresses. But when we say that the women should be properly clothed, we are immediately labelled as “misogynist”. They also say things like “Patriarchy is the cause of sexualization of women, not clothing”.
I become dumbstruck when I hear such arguments.
So please throw some light on these topics, Prabhu.

Prior to the 1960s, there was a system very much prevalent in India called “dowry”,i.e., the woman’s family should give some money to the man before getting married. As far as I’ve heard, it is said that the family of the man would not treat the wife nicely, if the family of the woman fails to give sufficient money as a dowry to the bridegroom. Sometimes the bridegroom’s family would even kill the bride later on due to not giving them sufficient money. So, probably this is what is agitating the feminists even today, and that’s why they are not submissive to their husbands. What do you think of this Madhudvisa Prabhu?
(P.S: Even today this system of dowry is still prevalent to a lesser extent in some parts of India)

Hare Krishna. I agree with you completely. I live in India Mumbai and at first enjoyed going to Juhu Iskcon. Slowly you learn their ways and see how everything is just a show.No one follows Srila Prabhupada’s books. It is really sad. I miss association with devotees but it is better to follow Krsna consciousness by your self chanting 16 rounds and reading the books. At least you can follow the right way instead of following bogus gurus.

What if a woman is raped and is impregnated by the rapist ? Many evidence based studies have shown that women accrue psychological damage (such as PTSD) post event of the rape, which would thus create an unhealthy environment for the child to grow and develop in a healthy way (physically and emotionally). Hence she is unable to care for the child for her own, which often leads to institutionalization of children.
This in itself has its own rippling negative effects in society which includes poverty (as the system is often underfunded by the government) and further psychological damage to the child’s growth, as these institutions are often unregulated.
Hence, women don’t exactly have a choice but to have an abortion because it is the best option. What do the Shashtras/Vedas say about such a scenario ?

I have been initiated into the srivaishnava sampradaya by a very self realised person but I honestly think that my sampradaya is just too much for me and I just want to become a follower of srila prabhupada for the rest of my life. He was the one who sparked my interest in krsna, and gave all the knowledge I have along with the effort I put in to get initiated. My acharya’s only teachings to me was to serve and make narayana happy, but if I am a part of this sampradaya I would not have the opportunity to fully follow srila prabhupada as some teachings and customs vary among the traditions. I dont know who is really my diksa guru as well and who to follow and if necessary, if I should take diksa directly from srila prabhupada(as they do in the bangalore temple). Not only this, until now in sri sampradaya they have told me that we need not follow bhakti and have no worries but just please krsna and completely surrender to him. Also varadaraja perumal(the manifestation of krsna in kanchipuram temple) told ramanuja that we need not think of krishna before death but instead just be completely surrendered and krsna will think of us instead. This seems like the easy way out of this world, but I really want to follow srila prabhupada and he has told us to do all these things. I dont know if I will be able to think of krishna at my last moments so I want to stick with the tradition I am initiated into, but just the thought of srila prabhupada brings tears to my eyes. Please tell me who my guru is and if I should re take initiation to be connected to krsna through gaudiya sampradaya. Adiyen needs your help. Jay srila prabhupada

Hare krishna Prabhuji
I am a minor so i am still under the care of my parents.
I am of srivaishnava sampradaya but I consider srila prabhupada as a siksha guru, kind of like vallabha and chaitanya. MY parents have pretty much banned my Krishna consciousness. They have made me stop chanting and my dad says he will do one round for me rather than me doing 16. They told me to stop worrying about the regulative principles(onions garlic and eggs) and following srila prabhupada’s books. They are permitting me to read them but are saying it doesnt need to be applied to life. they have banned me from going to our srivaishnava temple near our house and associating with the vaishnavas there and are saying i should focus more on my mundane education. They claim that my schooling is my duty and are saying krishna said in the bhagavad gita that you should do your duty for your way of living and should help people by doing that duty as well( which they claim is how you go to the spiritual world). I have read the bahgavad gita 3 times by both ramanuja and prabhupada and he never says that. They are mayavadis so whatever philosophy and scriptures i use to my defense, they pervert it by using their philosophy and threaten to remove my right of reading srila prabhupada’s books if i continue to beleive vaishnava philosophy. My dad is a follower of sai baba and is trying to make me one as well. they make me worship demigods and bogus gurus side by side with krishna. I have made him to satart reading the krishna book. He is 9 chapters into the book yet nothing has changed. I want to make them vaishnavas but it is almost impossible. They have also stopped my spiritual growth. Hare Krishna Mudhudvisa dasa,
I am a 15 year old girl living in Australia. As you were talking about sense gratification, I was trying to find an answer that I could not find anywhere else, so I am turning to you. Is it bad to masturbate? Will that give us bad karma and does it count as material gratification? Apologies if this question is inappropriate but I really need to know.

I have got some questions. I have to tell my class about how hindus experiences their religion. And I want to ask you some questions about how you think about the caste system and some other things. Those answers i will use in my presentation. Hope you can answer fast.
