What is the Purpose of This World?

My question is What is the purpose of this world? Why has God created it? And if god has created it then everything happening is HIS wish. So why all this going on??? Why few people love god and have faith in him and why others give all kinds of logic’s that they are born in this world and doing (karma for self) what has God made them for!

“Please clarify my questions. I have faith in Krishna ji and want that the lord help me in keeping his name and faith in me for ever and I’ll grow step by step towards Him.”

Thank you very much for the nice question, “What is the purpose of this world? Why has God created it?” It is something that bewilders many people. The key to understanding the purpose of the world is that God, Krishna, has given us a limited amount of independence. He lets us act as we like. But at the same time we are responsible for our activities. So in actuality, although the hand of God is behind the creation of this world, it is actually created by us, not God.

This material world is created to give us, the souls who want to be happy independently from God, a place to live. Here in the material world our intelligence is covered by “maya,” illusion, and we are trying to become the lord and master of the world. We are forgetful of the Supreme Personality of Godhead and instead of surrendering to Him and serving Him we are trying to get others to surrender to us and serve us. We want to be God. We want to be the master. But actually we can not be God, we are constitutionally very small and God, Krishna, is very great. This is eternally true. God is always God and we are always servants of God.

But because we want to be God, God has created this material world to allow us to “play God.” So, covered by maya, we are thinking we are the Lord and master of this world. So this material world is created by God to enable us to fulfill our desire to “play God.

” So this world is created by OUR desire NOT God’s desire.

God is not forcing us to think in a particular way. We have a little independence and if we choose to try and be happy separate from God there has to be somewhere for us to go. There is no question of being separate from God in the Kingdom of God, the Spiritual World, so Krishna, God has created this material kingdom so we can become the King here…

But we can not be happy separate from God. Our constitutional, natural position is to serve God. So even though there seems to be so many pleasurable things in the material world, none of them are truly satisfying. This is because we are spiritual by nature therefore no material pleasure can actually satisfy us.

So there is actually no real pleasure in this material world at all. The actual pleasure is in the spiritual world. Krishna confirms in the Bhagavad-gita (8.16) that this world is a place of misery where repeated birth and death are going on:

abrahma-bhuvanal lokah
punar avartino ‘rjuna
mam upetya tu kaunteya
punar janma na vidyate

From the highest planet in the material world down to the lowest, all are places of misery wherein repeated birth and death take place. But one who attains to My abode, O son of Kunti, never takes birth again.

So this material world, created by God, Krishna, to enable us to fulfill our desire to be “happy” separate from God IS a place of misery. There is no happiness here. The happiness is in the spiritual world, the Kingdom of God, where everyone is engaged in their natural constitutional position as a servant of God.

The suffering and pain of this world should serve as a reminder to us that this material world is not a nice place, it is not our home. Our home is in the spiritual world, the Kingdom of God…

So a thoughtful person will see the sufferings of this world and ask the question: “Is there a way to end the suffering?” and such questions are the beginning of spiritual life and the beginning of actual human life. The Vedanta Sutra begins with ahato brahma jijnasa, “In the human form of life one should question about spirit [brahman].”

We have this human form of life and it is a very valuable facility for making spiritual advancement. We should see this material world for what it is, a place of suffering where we can not be happy, and use our time and energy here to reestablish our forgotten relationship with God, Krishna. That is the real purpose of life. It is completely pointless to try and make arrangements to live comfortably here in the material world. It is not possible to be comfortable here. We can see science, medicine and technology have advanced so much over the past 100 years, but we are no happier than the people were 100 years ago. In fact with so much stress, so many new diseases, so much pollution and so much violence in our society, we are probably more disturbed and unhappy than our ancestors were 100 years ago…

Even though the scientists, the doctors, the politicians, the economists, etc. have worked very hard to make this world a happy, comfortable place, every day it becomes a more uncomfortable, intolerable place…

We can not improve our “standard of life.” We are all destined to suffer a certain amount and enjoy a certain amount because of our karma [reactions to the actions we have performed in this and pervious lives]. That karma is fixed and cannot be changed by any type of technological advancement. So the doctors and the scientists may eliminate one type of suffering but because we are destined to suffer due to our karma that suffering will appear in a different way…

So the Vedic way of life is “plain living and high thinking.” We should live simply, so we can provide our body with the necessary food to maintain it and use our time and energy to develop Krishna consciousness so at the time of death we will think of Krishna and go back home, back to Godhead, the Kingdome of God, the spiritual world. Then we will be really happy.

yam yam vapi smaran bhavam
tyajaty ante kalevaram
tam tam evaiti kaunteya
sada tad-bhava-bhavitah

Whatever state of being one remembers when he quits his body, that state he will attain without fail.

The easiest way to make sure we remember Krishna at the time of death is to organize our life so we can remember Krishna all the time. And in this age the process particularly recommended for that is chanting the Hare Krishna maha mantra

Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama, Rama Rama Hare Hare

Thanks for the nice question. Please write if you have more questions.

Chant Hare Krishna and be happy!

About the Author

My first contact with a Hare Krishna was a most merciful Mataji in Oxford Street, London who sold me a "Higher Taste" cook book in 1984 while I was on holidays there. I started seriously reading Srila Prabhupada's books in Australia 1985 and by 1986 Srila Prabhupada had convinced me "Krishna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead" and "we should surrender to Krishna." I joined the Hare Krishnas in Perth, Western Australia in 1986. Since then I have been chanting Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare, reading and distributing Srila Prabhupada's books and preaching as much as I can. That's my life and full-time occupation now really. I like it more than anything I've ever experienced before. Srila Prabhupada's books are so amazing... Even after reading them all many times they're still fresh and new. They are truly transcendental! That's it really. Now I'm just hankering to once again see the world chant Hare Krishna, dance and feast and float away in the ecstasy of Lord Caitanya's Sankirtana movement as it did in Srila Prabhupada's physical presence. Let the whole world drown in the ecstatic flood of love of Krishna!

  1. Anmol says:

Nowhere in the answer is mentioned as to why the material world was created and why we were separated from the Lord in the first place??? Does that not make us puppets and mere creatures God likes to watch playing?..?

    • Material world is created by us. By our desires. Material world is a reflection of the spiritual world on our desires. You can think of a reflection of a tree in water. You can see the tree in the water but your view of the tree is distorted by the movements of the water. So the water the tree is reflected on is like this material world is a reflection of the spiritual world distorted by our desires.

This material world is only a reflection of the reality, it is not the reality. The reality is in the spiritual world.

This material world is a reflection of the substance only, there is no actual substance here. The real substance is in the spiritual world.

The material energy is real, it is not false, but at the same time it is illusory. The idea that we can be happy separately from serving Krishna is false. So the material world is built on this false premise. The material world is a place where we imagine we can be the masters, but in reality we are eternally servants.

We are never actually separated from Krishna, Krishna is always with us, in our hearts, but if we want He remains hidden from us.

We don’t want to see Krishna, we want to become Krishna, we want to be the lord, the master, we do not want to surrender to and serve Krishna.

So Krishna has very mercifully created this material world where we can live out our delusions of trying to be the masters. But here, in the material world, everyone is trying to be the master, everyone is trying to be god. It is a prescription for disaster.

So everything in the material world will always end in disaster and suffering. Because the only way we can be happy is by surrendering to and serving Krishna, but we have rejected Krishna to come here to the material world to try and “play god” ourselves.

It is all very clear and if you can not understand it then you are a fool.

  2. RANJIT says:

Guruji why god created this matarial world and why he tells us to not fall in this material world instead of creating a holy place

    • Krishna created this material world for us, because you we want it.

We, in the material world, have all rejected Krishna, otherwise we would not be in the material world. We all want to imitate Krishna. Krishna is the master and we are His servants. But we don’t like that. We want to be the master and we want everyone else to serve us. That is our disease.

But that can never happen, because constitutionally we are always servants of Krishna, and Krishna is always the master. That is our constitutional position, to serve Krishna. So there is no other option.

But Krishna has given us a little independence, our relationship with Krishna is one of love. So in a loving relationship you can not force the other party to love you. So Krishna does not force us. So if we don’t want to serve Krishna, if we want to imitate Krishna and try and become the master, not the servant, then we are free to come here to the material world and try to become the master.

But material world is all an illusion, maya. The illusion that we can be happy separately from serving Krishna. So it is just like a reflection of the spiritual world, but a perverted reflection. Instead of Krishna in the center we are trying to put ourselves in the center. So this is actually impossible. Because Krishna is always in the center. That is why material world is maya, illusion.

It is all just a show, there is no actual happiness or satisfaction or love in the material world. All we have here is a perverted distorted reflection of the pure original situation in the spiritual world.

So Krishna creates the material world because we want it, but it is actually a miserable place, because what we want is impossible for us. We want to be masters, but we are eternally servants actually. That is the problem. So anytime we try to do anything else except surrender to Krishna and serve Him, it will end in disaster.

So in the material world, where the whole idea is to try to become happy separately from Krishna, it will always end in disaster.

The problem is not Krishna, the problem is us. We want something that is impossible. We want to be happy without surrendering to and serving Krishna, so Krishna creates the material world for us to play in, but it will always end in disaster, because what we want, to be happy without Krishna, is impossible. That is not Krishna’s fault, it is our fault, we have misused the independence Krishna gave us.

Chant Hare Krishna and be happy!

  3. Devashish Wanjari says:

I have doubt that guru has told us, we are the pieces of Brahman the almighty and we are aatman. Now my question is why Brahman putting us in this maya and cycle of life and death? And if in one of life cycle our karma is good we get guru who tells us truth and makes us aline with the almighty to break the cycle and merge with almighty.
If from starting we are the part of Brahman then why he is putting us in maya? For testing purpose or what?
And why human brain is so much hard-core bind for physical attraction?
Why our brain continuously thinking of ridiculous thought? How to get rid of them?
How can a man can control the sexuality feeling?

    • To solve these problems and answer these questions you need to hear from a proper guru, a proper self-realized spiritual master.
So I suggest you study the books of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. There you will find all the answers to all your questions and much much more.
There is no point in listening to these bogus impersonal Mayavadi gurus who will only confuse and mislead you as it appears has happened to you. You are intelligent so you can understand what your guru has taught you does not make any sense. So that is the way with the Mayavadis, they preach rubbish, nonsense, illogical philosophy and most of their foolish followers do not catch on, because they also say, “Everyone is god, you are god, I am god…” So the foolish followers of the foolish gurus like the idea of thinking they are god, so they do not mind that the philosophy their guru teaches does not make sense…
So read Srila Prabhupada’s books and you will understand everything very clearly.

I write in very very short. i am 81 years physically weak.In 2003 i received Shaktipat intensive diksha with shiva mantra. Experienced devine kriyas etc and practice meditation till date though from last few years intensity is weakening and find difficulty to calm down thoughts in the mind which takes now much time. Before 1993 to 2003 I was wandering for spiritual help and before 1993 my life was full of materialistic unfulfilled desires etc.and in 1992 due to family tragedy i turned to divine help.In my life I used to worship various gods Shiva and Hanuman Krishna and Ram. and goddesses Kali Durga as advised by so called saints etc.Since I now wish Hare Krishna jap will it be all right but I cannot leave my diksha Mantra which is my lifeline. Can I also jap or chant or listen Hare Krishna kritan.

  5. Thomas Doute says:

Therefore either we serve God or suffer what kind of independence is that? If we don’t want to serve Krsna he kicks us on the head until we comply? Why couldn’t God have created a nice place for the Jiva to be satisfied independently without birth, death old age and disease, without maya kicking our face. If the jiva is a fragmented “eternal” part how can Krsna be God ? There is no question of creation thus, the Jiva must be on an equal platform as Krsna in the original state of pure consciousness any differentiation would surly suggest attributes that must have been attained at a point in “time” as on the absolute platform there can be no difference, eternal means eternal no past no future only the ever present therefore how could such a conception of superior qualities between entities on this platform exist? Eternally fragmented means without origin and eternally ever present in perfect state. Time = dream.

    • Hare Krishna Thomas

I feel your frustration. But it is not Krishna’s fault. It is our natural constitutional position to serve Krishna. It is like a fish’s natural condition is to live in the water. So the fish may want to come out of the water and live on the land, but he will never be happy out of the water. He can never be happy out of the water, because he is a creature of the water. So we are like that. We are constitutionally servants of Krishna, that is the only way we can be happy, by serving Krishna. And we are all part and parcel of Krishna. So we have the same qualities as Krishna. But Krishna has the qualities in an unlimited quantity while we have the same qualities in an infinitesimal quantity. So we are qualitatively the same as Krishna but quantitatively different. So Krishna is completely independent. So we also have a tiny amount of independence. We can use that independence properly by choosing to serve Krishna, or we can misuse that independence by choosing not to serve Krishna.

But in reality there is no such thing as not serving Krishna for us. We are made for that, for serving Krishna, that is our purpose. So it is Krishna’s great mercy that he creates this material world for us where we can exercise this rebellious desire to try and enjoy separately from Krishna, but at the same time this world is constructed in such a way that all our endeavors to enjoy separately from Krishna end in frustration. So after many, many lives of frustration in the material world an intelligent person realizes that he should surrender to Krishna and go back home back to Godhead.

You may not like it, and you may complain, ‘why is is like this.’, but the point is this is the way it is and no one can change that.

The fish can never be happy on land, you can never be happy except by surrendering to and serving Krishna. Like it or hate it, that is just the way it is.

Thank-you for a beautiful answer. You tried to cover main points n tried to give answer in short that common man can understand

  7. Vishal says:

Nice one. I have a question. The question is,
God has created this world. Everything is good and work properly like Sun, Moon, River, Ocean, Mountains, forests etc. Animals like goat, Cow etc. eat grasses. to design the growing grasses beautifully. Animals like Tiger, Lion, etc eat flesh of other animals to decrease the population of herbivores animals like goat, sheep, Buffalo etc. As I’ve explained above every species have to do something for nature for the maintenance of this World But why God has created us?
    To do puja, bhakti?
To eat flesh of goat, sheep, hen, etc??
To destroy this world with various technology????
Or to eat grasses like other animals for the maintenance.????
I want to know that, why have human come in this world and what should humans contribute to this God’s World for maintenance??
Everything has already keep working properly and I don’t think so that God need us to contribute anything to this World…

    • Hare Krishna Vishal

Krishna has created this material world for us, the human beings, to come here and try to enjoy separately from Him. That is our desire, so Krishna has created this material world where the illusion of maya causes us to forget our real nature and identify with these temporary material bodies. It is a perverted reflection of the spiritual world, so although there is no real love or beauty here, we can see the perverted reflections of love and beauty from the spiritual world.

So the whole description would take many pages. I suggest you read Srila Prabhupada’s books and you will learn all about this and so many other very interesting things…

  8. Greg Mathews says:

Do you think that Krishna directs us in any way, for instance where we are wayward there comes support and opportunities for us to find ourselves again, to create new chapters or advancements in our lives?

    • Hare Krishna Greg

It is not what I think. Krishna says he is directing the wandering of all the living entities.

      https://www.asitis.com/18/61.html

“The Supreme Lord is situated in everyone’s heart, O Arjuna, and is directing the wanderings of all living entities, who are seated as on a machine, made of the material energy.”

So there is no use me thinking something or me having an opinion. My thoughts and opinions have no value. The only valuable thing is we hear from Krishna and His pure devotees and we repeat what we have heard from the authorities. So yes. Krishna is always directing us. We have no power to do anything by ourselves. But Krishna directs us according to our desires.

      https://www.asitis.com/15/15.html

I am seated in everyone’s heart, and from Me come remembrance, knowledge and forgetfulness. By all the Vedas am I to be known; indeed I am the compiler of Vedanta, and I am the knower of the Vedas.

So if we want to remember Krishna then Krishna will help us to remember Him, but if we want to forget Krishna then Krishna will help us forget Him.

Krishna has sent his pure devotee, His Divine Grace, A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, his books are there, you can read them and become a pure devotee and be ecstatic in Krishna consciousness. So why not do it? Read Srila Prabhupada’s books and become a pure devotee of Krishna and preach and help others become pure devotees of Krishna as well.

  9. arunava biswas says:

is the souls in spiritual world controlled by Krishna if so the our desire of becoming independent and god himself will also be done by krishna

    • The souls are never controlled by Krishna in the sense that every individual soul has a limited amount of independence, free will. We are all part and parcel of Krishna. So we are the same in quality as Krishna, but Krishna is unlmitedly great and we are unlimitedly small… But we are composed of the same substance as Krishna. So as Krishna is supremely independent we are minutely independent. So in the spiritual world the living entities use their independence to voluntarily serve Krishna in their own particular way… So they are independent in the spiritual world serving Krishna, they are not controlled by Krishna.

  10. Vim says:

I have read the question and answers and also the responses, but all your responses still do not answer the question, why did god create us in the first place? Yes we may be created as part of him, we may only be souls and this a material world with our temporary bodies as vehicles, but it still does not explain the reason of why he would create us? What benefit does it provide him, what purpose does it serve him?

Now you might say to fully understand this, you have to attain krishna consciousness, but how do you know this? Scriptures are not the answer, they were written a very long time ago and that would raise another question, how do we know the scriptures are correct?

Everything you say provides an answer based on assumption, you provide explanations on who we are and what we are but the real question remains unanswered, why create us in the first place? And if God has infinite ability, why didn’t he just create us preprogrammed to worship him and give us immortality without the need to die, hunt for food and according to you, go through suffering? Why give us the ability to make mistakes? Why not just make us perfect beings?

If God is immortal and has infinite power and infinite abilities and infinite resources and there is nothing superior than him, then that would mean he has no requirement for anything else, I mean, if you have everything then you need nothing, so why did he create us? Why create the souls? What was the overall purpose?

    • You are trying to understand Krishna with your mind, with your limited consciousness, but you do not know how small and insignificiant you are and how puny and useless your brain and intelligence is.

You can not say, “Why did Krishna create the living entities.” You have to hear from Krishna what He does and why.

Only Krishna knows why He does things and if you want to understand you have to hear it from Him or from His pure devotees.

There is no other way. You have to accept the knowledge coming in the disciplic succession.

There is no other way. Your imagination and speculation about what Krishna should or should not do is totally useless…

  11. ajay says:

Hare Krishna, I have a question – As mentioned above “This material world is created to give us, the souls who want to be happy independently from God, a place to live. ”

Question – In the scriptures it is mentioned that souls nature is sat cit anand and its full of knowledge.

Now if as a soul I was full of knowledge then how can I do such a foolish thing of coming to this material world. Try to understand me, you people say that we human beings are imperfect and our knowledge is also imperfect but even with this imperfect knowledge we know that dogs life is very miserable so we should not get the life of dog or any animal.

Then how a soul who is full of knowledge can even think of doing this foolishness. Its not possible at all. This logic of telling people that soul forgot the supreme god is not logical at all.

If in this imperfect human life i know that one should not get a dogs life then how a soul full of knowledge can think of getting human birth. No logic at all however I appreciate your devotion towards krishna. May krishna forgive me for being straight forward.

    • Hare Krishna Ajay

We are all souls are we are all constitutionally sat, cit, ananda. But we are small, and because we are small we are called tatastha, it means marginal. We have the tendency to fall down into the material world.

These things are all very clearly and elaborately explained in Srila Prabhupada’s books. So if you truly want to understand Krishna consciousness then please read Srila Prabhupada’s books.

Because of our smallness we have the tendency to fall down.

Anyhow, if you want to understand these things, the way is to read Srila Prabhupada’s books for yourself.

Chant Hare Krishna and be happy!

he knows that nobody is going to die. even of anyone do more bad karma he has to passs through hell but it doesn’t affect akarta aatma the real one inside robot body.
we are akarta aaatma. we only can seee.
this is tell by dyneshwar maharaja.
for further detail just listen hindi song- “duniya banane waale” u will b satisfactory,

    • Hare Krishna Ashwin

For the proper information you would be advised to read Srila Prabhupada’s translation of Srimad-Bhagavatam, rather than listening to some Hindi Song.

Real situation is similar to what you say. This material universe is sometimes manifest and sometimes non-manifest. It is a cycle, the universe is manifest for some time, then non-manifest for the same amount of time then it is manifest again, etc. This cycle goes on eternally.

During the non-manifest time everything is conserved. So what the scientists say, matter can not be created or destroyed, it just changes state, is true. At the time of annihilation all the living entities, spirit souls, enter within the body of Maha-Visnu, so it is a type of sleep or boredom as you say, and all the matter, the material atoms, are conserved into the pradhana. Then when the time of creation comes again the matter is agitated by the glance of Maha-Visnu and through His glance the matter is impregnated with all the same living entities that existed at the time of the previous devastation and the universe is created again.

So this is all very elaborately explained in Srimad-Bhagavatam. You can get it at krishnastore.com or read it online at prabhupadabooks.com

  16. rohit says:

i want to ask why krishna stop us from enjoying..and second thing is there r so many human beings who r just surving they r working hard for a single bread then how u can u say that human life is given to us so that we can remember krishna and then we go to spiritual world..how can u expect from that person who is living in a forest area to rembember krishna whose whole time goes in search of food by hunting.so god has not given all equal opportinity to all ..and baghwad gita is not available to everyone ..so why not god has given a single source more powerful to the humans so their belief can be more stonger then as now. many people including me want to know what if there is no world like siritual world and only this is the real world.every religion has its own theory so how u expect us to believe in gita 100 %. and the most important question is they say there are 84 lac yoni in which we have to take body.but as we see many animals r going to be extinct now ..so the 84 lac yoni is decreasing..please reply me so that my faith can become more stronger. i waiting for the reply thank u !!

    • There is no enjoyment in the material world, only suffering. The only way we can enjoy is by surrendering to Krishna and serving Krishna. That is what we are, servants of Krishna. We can not do anything else and be happy. The only way we can be happy is by surrendering to Krishna and serving Krishna. There is no alternative to this.

And yes. Not all people are born equal. Some have a better chance of coming to spiritual life than others, but that is because of their work in previous lives. Our existence is continual from one birth to the next. So what we do in the previous births has an effect on our current situation. So if we were cultivating spiritual life in our previous births then in this life we will have a better chance at it than one who was not cultivating it in his previous births.

But Lord Caitanya is so merciful that everyone can very easily take to Krishna consciousness simply by chanting:

Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

So chant Hare Krishna and be happy!

You said we wanted to live seperate from krishna before creation but before creation we didint have materail body with desire so how did we have that desire in us before creation because we were not created at that time so how we thought of that desire and in what form?

Also if i worship lord krishna the entire life but killed by a animal for example and while dying I think of that animal will i born again as animal?what about the entire life of devotion and serving the lord?

    Please answer hare krishna

You do not seem to understand that you are not the material body, you are the spirit soul within the body. You are the spiritual entity, the spiritual soul, you are nothing to do with the material body, the material world or the material creation. You are spiritual, not material.

So you, in this sense, share the same qualities as Krishna. As Krishna is eternal, Krishna is never born and Krishna never dies, so you are also eternal, you are never born and you never die. The difference is Krishna is unlimitedly great and we are unlimitedly small. But the quality of Krishna and the quality of us as spirit souls is the same.

So there was never a time when you did not exist and there will never be a time in the future when you cease to exist.

So you exist always, so obviously you existed before the material creation and you will continue to exist once the material world is annihilated.

You have a limited amount of independence. So you can choose if you want to serve Krishna or if you want to try to become the lord and master, the enjoyer yourself. So you have that independence at all times. At any time you can develop the desire to become the enjoyer yourself and reject the idea of surrendering to and serving Krishna. So at that point you come to the material world.

But this is not your constitutional position. Our only purpose is to serve Krishna. We have no other purpose. We are part and parcel of Krishna, just like the finger is part and parcel of my body. It would be insane for the finger to think that it can go off and enjoy separately from the rest of the body. No. The only way the finger can enjoy is if it serves the whole body. Because the nourishment and sustenance of the finger depends on the health of the entire body. So the finger has to serve the body by taking the food and supplying it to the mouth. In this way, by supplying the food to the mouth, the finger is also completely satisfied and nourished.

So we are like the finger, we are part and parcel of Krishna and our happiness and sustenance is completely dependent on us satisfying and serving Krishna. If Krishna is satisfied by our service then we will be happy. If Krishna is not satisfied by our service then we will be miserable. That is our constitutional position, there is nothing we can do to change that.

So in the material world we are actually out of our natural constitutional position. We are like fish out of water. So there is no way you can make a fish happy out of water. The only way you can make a fish happy is to put him back in the water. There is no other way. So we, as spirit souls, can never be happy in the material world. It is not possible at all. That is why Krishna describes the material world as a place of miseries where there is repeated birth and death in the Bhagavad-gita. No one can be happy here in the material world, it is a place of miseries and we are forced to die. You can not be happy here.

It is only maya, illusion, the idea that we can be happy in the material world.

If you worship Krishna for your entire life, well Krishna consciousness is more than worshiping Krishna for your entire life. Krishna consciousness means always remembering Krshna, never forgetting Krishna. So if you are actually Krishna conscious all your life you will never forget Krishna, even if a tiger comes and eat you you will still be thinking of Krishna as the tiger eats you. So you will go back home back to Godhead. This is Krishna consciousness. Never forgetting Krishna. Even if a tiger is eating you.

This is a science we have to learn and the process to attain this Krishna consciousness Srila Prabhupada has very nicely described in his many books. We need to read Srila Prabhupada’s books and take advantage of the science of Krishna consciousness and get out of the illusion of maya and realize that this material world is not our home and that we can not be happy here and become Krishna conscious and go back home, back to Godhead…

Thanks for giving time to answer my question but I meant that before creation we were parts of krishna , and krishna is eternal and supreme personality so how we being a part krishna had desires in us,like to be given a separate identity and to play god, main question is how can krishna be jealous of himself and ask him to create a world to play god.

You don’t understand and really we can not understand these spiritual things without becoming spiritual ourselves. So realistically the only way you will be able to understand these things is if you become Krishna conscious yourself and the process to become Krishna conscious starts with reading Srila Prabhupada’s books every day, chanting at least 16 rounds of the Hare Krishna mantra daily and strictly following the four regulative principles: no illicit sex, no meat eating, no gambling and no intoxication. If you truly want to understand Krishna and Krishna consciousness then the only way is to surrender to these things and actually do them.

We are always, eternally parts and parcels of Krishna, that never changes. But we always have a separate identity to Krishna. It is not that Krishna has given us a separate identity at some point in time. We are eternally separate identities to Krishna. We are always different personalities to Krishna. We are never one with Krishna in this sense. We are always different persons to Krishna. Krishna is the one original Supreme Personality of Godhead but we are also eternal individual persons who have separate individual personalities to Krishna.

So as we and Krishna are different persons and as Krishna has given us a limited amount of independence then that means at any point of time we can use that independence correctly and choose to surrender to Krishna, to love Krishna, to serve Krishna, or we can reject Krishna and we can develop the desire to become like Krishna ourselves. Now we can have that desire, but we can never actually become like Krishna, because Krishna is unlimiedly great and we are unlimitedly small. So the position of the small is to worship the great. There is no way of changing this. So because we are small then our natural, eternal constitutional position is to serve the great, Krishna.

So we can never actually become like Krishna, we can never become great, we will always be small. That is our eternal constitutional position. We will always be tiny and Krishna will always be unlimitedly great.

So to enable us to live out or dreams to become like Krishna to some extent Krishna has very mercifully created this material world and he has created his maha-maya which bewilders us and covers our intelligence and enables us to think and believe that we can become the master, we can become the enjoyer. But this is only an illusion, it is only maya. Actually we will only be miserable, we will only suffer, as long as we do not surrender to Krishna…

every thing was well explained. . but why do we wanted to separate from god?

    • Hare Krishna Sandeep

We are part and parcel of God, Krishna. So we have all the qualities of Krishna but in a very small quantity. So Krishna is the Supreme Controller, Krishna is the master, and we are His servants. But we also have this tendency to want to become the master and the tendency to want to control. Although constitutionally we are servants. We have to serve, there is no possibility of us actually becoming the controller and master.

But sometimes the living entities, because of misused of the little independence they have been given by Krishna, want to become the master and controller, just like Krishna. That is not possible of course, because Krishna is eternally Supreme and we are eternally His servants. But out of His unlimited mercy, to fulfill the desires of these rebellious living entities, Krishna creates this material world and the ‘maya’ potency that gives the living entities the ability to forget that they are eternal servants of Krishna and gives them the illusion that they can become the lord and master.

So although it is not possible for us to ever become the lord and master, here in the material world, because of maya, the illusory bewildering energy, we are fooled into thinking that we can become the lord and master. But our every attempt in this direction becomes ultimately frustrated so eventually, after many, many births, a thoughtful living entity realizes that he is an eternal servant of Krishna.

So it is like that, we separated from Krishna because of misuse of our independence. Our relationship with Krishna is one of love. And love means the lover has to be free to not love the person. So we have the choice of serving Krishna in love and devotion or coming here to the material world and suffering repeated birth and death…

So when someone misuses their independence they are choosing not to love Krishna so they are then transferred here, to the material world…

Can u please guide me what and how i have to do to come out of it?

The secret to chanting the Hare Krishna mantra is to KEEP CHANTING. Make a vow to chant at least 16 rounds of the Hare Krishna mantra daily and stick to it.

In the beginning you may feel like you are in transcendental bliss one day chanting and the next day your mind may be completely disturbed and you can not concentrate on the Hare Krishna mantra and it seems like a great chore to try and chant Hare Krishna. But KEEP CHANTING.

It is only by this determination to keep chanting at least 16 rounds of the Hare Krishna mantra daily that we will get through the trials and tribulations of life in the material world. And even we may fail and fall on the regulative principles sometimes. The secret is to KEEP CHANTING and the chanting of the Hare Krishna mantra will give us the strength to get out of maya and again become properly situated…
